The Republic of the Congo (French: République du Congo), also known as Congo, Congo Republic,West Congo, or Congo-Brazzaville, is a country located in Central Africa. It is bordered by five countries: Gabon to the west; Cameroon to the northwest; the Central African Republic to the northeast; the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the east and south; and the Angolan exclave of Cabinda to the southwest.
The region was dominated by Bantu-speaking tribes, who built trade links leading into the Congo River basin. Congo-Brazzaville was formerly part of the French colony of Equatorial Africa. Upon independence in 1960, the former colony of French Congo became the Republic of the Congo. The People's Republic of the Congo was a Marxist–Leninist one-party state from 1970 to 1991. Multi-party elections have been held since 1992, although a democratically elected government was ousted in the 1997 Republic of the Congo Civil War and President Denis Sassou Nguesso has ruled for 26 of the past 36 years.

The Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa is one of the world’s most resource-rich countries. A wide range of rare minerals can be found here in abundance, all commanding high prices in world commodity markets. Diamonds for jewellery, tantalum, tungsten and gold for electronics; uranium used in power generation and weaponry and many others. Congo has copious deposits of raw materials that are in high demand internationally but remains one of the poorest countries in the world. From colonisation, with the horrors of slavery and other atrocities, to a turbulent and equally brutal present in which militant groups control the mines, Congo’s richness in natural resources has brought nothing but misery. Referred to as “conflict minerals”, these riches leave only a trail of death, destruction ...

Josh Sigurdson talks with author and economic analyst John Sneisen about the inflation plagued Democratic Republic of Congo. While the Congolese government quits and IMF talks begin, the idea of fixing the economy without printing money is coming up as a possibility, but it's too little, too late. The IMF will simply force the people of Congo further into debt and poverty. Governments and central banks always turn to higher globalist powers to save themselves from the horrors of central planning and taking tips from globalist powers. It seems repetitive because it is and as the Hegelian Dialectic goes, it's problem, reaction, solution repeat and this will continue on to eternity as long as people don't understand the root problems. Congo has the 3rd highest inflation rate in the world wi...

“La Sape” is a unique movement based in Congo that unites fashion-conscious men who are ready to splurge money they don’t really have on designer clothes. Dressing in stark contrast with their surroundings, these elegant ambiance-makers become true local celebrities… but this fame comes at a price. The Republic of the Congo in Central Africa can’t boast of high standards of living. Yet, there are men here who are prepared to spend a fortune on designer suits. They call themselves “sapeurs” – members of the “La Sape” movement. “La Sape” comes from French and stands for “The Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People”. For its adherents, it’s all about style and elegance, the right combination of colours and textures, brand-names and the highest quality materials. They derive true joy fr...

Prophet T.B. Joshua gave a series of revealing prophecies about the African continent on Sunday 19th February 2017. He addressed the political crisis currently engulfing the Democratic Republic of Congo, the precarious situation connected to the health of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and the strange bouts of bad weather hitting nations across Southern Africa, as well as a famine in Ethiopia. He also shared nuggets of wisdom in some practical advice on leadership. Be blessed as you watch!
It's a statistic that is hard to grasp: According to the U.N. nearly 5,000 people are being forced from their homes every day in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The internal displacement is mainly the result of a conflict between tribal groups and government troops in the Central Kasai region. The situation has left millions without access to food and water. This is the third of four films focusing on Save the Children's work on children's health in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). War, hunger and disease have killed nearly 4 million people in the DRC in the last seven years. One in every five children dies before reaching their fifth birthday. In the east, more than 1 million internally displaced people still need help to meet their basic needs. The fighting has destroyed the economy and infrastructure,as well as the social fabric of families and communities. Save the Children started work in the DRC in 1994, helping children who had fled the genocide in neighbouring Rwanda. They then began to work with Congolese children. Today Save the children work in five of the countrys 26 provinces: Kasai Oriental, North Kivu, South Kivu,Ituri a...

Every day, MSF is confronted with the medical consequences of violence in its hospitals, health centers and mobile clinics in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). DATELINE: February 17, 2017 (Democratic Republic of the Congo - RDC / Bandundu region) - Grave images have emerged of a massacre of unarmed civilians in Kabeya Kamuanga Mwanza Lomba village in the Kasai by soldiers under the command of Joseph Kabila. The soldiers who speak Lingala and have FARDC outfits are here slaughtering the so-called militants of Kamwena Nsapu. It is a war crime, incontestably, and a crime against humanity. Here is the sequence of this massacre: The video begins with armed soldiers saying that "they are not afraid to die, we will show them" They walk and in f...
The U.S. envoy to Africa's Great Lakes region said on Tuesday the Democratic Republic of Congo and U.N. peacekeepers should take military action against a Rwandan Hutu militia if it fails to meet a Jan. 2 deadline for disarmament. Russ Feingold said from Washington during a teleconference that the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, some of whose leaders are implicated in the 1994 Rwanda genocide, has failed to surrender unconditionally. The militia, which has operated in eastern Congo since 2000, was granted a six-month reprieve from military action by two African regional bodies in July to give it more time to disarm. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/9jhkcU6g_Zo/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

GUNS FOR HIRE -- CONGO DRC is my second documentary about ex-military personel who work for PMCs, private military companies. Reporter Sam Kiley followed Conrad Thorpe who is an ex British Special Forces colonel. He got hired by the Congolese government to train anti-poaching units in the Virunga National Park. They are known as ICCN rangers (Institue Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature). After a decade of civil war this training is a desperate attempt to protect Congo's remaining endangered wildlife. Production Notes: The production of this film offered me the first opportunity to witness the aftermath of the various civil wars in the Eastern part of Congo DRC. At first sight, the natural beauty of the vast wilderness is breathtaking. But, at the same time, I was shocked by the...

While some places are on this list due to armed conflicts and violence, other places are on the list thanks to physical or biological calamities. Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary. These are the 25 most dangerous places to visit as a tourist. Also, before we continue, just remember, being on this list doesn't necessarily mean the entire country is bad to visit (although it can). Just make sure to check on regional travel warnings. After finally receiving my scooter in Franceville, Gabon I made the trip towards the Congo. But again, it wasn't without any lack of drama. I had two flat tires before I even made it to the border. I was planning on hitting the sand road of the Congo by about 8am, but with the flats, and the fact I was in the middle of nowhere, I didn't hit the sand until about 1030. The sand road in the Congo was absolutely grueling. There were so many times driving the road towards Oyo that I just about quit and set up at the side of the road to sleep for the night. Following the sand day I crashed at the house of a Lebanese expat for the night and pushed on to Brazzaville. Two days later, and I arrive at the outskirts of Brazzaville, Congo. But my visa expires today, so what will I do? Stay tuned....

The Congo contains some of the most fascinating natural wildlife habitats in Africa. This fascinating country is home to a remarkable creature, the Mountain Gorilla. Our destination is the Virunga National Park that extends along the borders of the Congo, Uganda and Ruanda. Close to the border with Uganda is the village of Goma that contains several dwellings and a good market that displays an amazing variety of exotic fruit. After a short but very welcome break the journey continues in a four-wheel drive minibus but this does not last very long as it soon becomes necessary to travel by foot, a daunting prospect but also one inspired by the possibility of spotting the rare Mountain Gorilla in its natural habitat on a journey that will take around two days. The excitement continues to moun...

It is a deep dive into the heartland of Africa, into the mysterious Democratic Republic of Congo. A dream of many backpackers and often cited as a dangerous country to travel. Moving from A to B in the DRC is an adventure for outsiders and still challenge for locals and not everything is true about what comes into your mind for Congo. Yes, it still struggles for peace in its eastern region. The UN and other organizations trying to stabilize and support the country and as many refugees from other countries flood over the border, it is a challenge to be faced here. Despite all these efforts, for me Congo resembles still an authentic and real Africa off the beaten track. Rarely a visitor crosses into the DRC and while in Congo for little bit over three weeks, I only met two other travelers - ...

Congo, get to, get to Congo
Get to, get to Congo
Get to, get to Congo
Get to, get to Congo
Now could we go to the square they call Congo?
I need to go and lay my feet upon the stone
Where the first of us stood before, before, before
Where we sat and played to revive our depleted souls
Where we went to forget our freedom was not our own
Where we went to hold onto the memories of way back home
Now could we?
Now could we?
Now could we go?
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Now could we go to the square they call Congo?
I need to go and lay my feet upon the stones
Where the first of us stood before, before, before
Where we made music in remembrance of human bodies sold
Where the sound of an old pain became a new music of hope
Where they paved me a road so I could get to Congo
Now could we?
Now could we?
Now could we go?
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
And I would not be here today if they had not been
So displaced, so displaced, but still
But still they made time to sing and play a song
A song in Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
Get to Cong, get to Cong Congo
Get to Cong, get to Congo
