Documentary '60

Documentary '60 is a Canadian documentary television series which aired on CBC Television from 1959 to 1960.

Premise

This series featured various National Film Board of Canada documentaries, similar in concept to 1958's Candid Eye except that this new series was given a full broadcast season. Some of the documentaries were previously broadcast on Candid Eye.

This half-hour series was broadcast on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. (Eastern) from 25 October 1959 to 29 May 1960.

Connection (principal bundle)

In mathematics, a connection is a device that defines a notion of parallel transport on the bundle; that is, a way to "connect" or identify fibers over nearby points. A principal G-connection on a principal G-bundle P over a smooth manifold M is a particular type of connection which is compatible with the action of the group G.

A principal connection can be viewed as a special case of the notion of an Ehresmann connection, and is sometimes called a principal Ehresmann connection. It gives rise to (Ehresmann) connections on any fiber bundle associated to P via the associated bundle construction. In particular, on any associated vector bundle the principal connection induces a covariant derivative, an operator that can differentiate sections of that bundle along tangent directions in the base manifold. Principal connections generalize to arbitrary principal bundles the concept of a linear connection on the frame bundle of a smooth manifold.

Let π:P→M be a smooth principal G-bundle over a smooth manifold M. Then a principal G-connection on P is a differential 1-form on P with values in the Lie algebra of G which is G-equivariant and reproduces the Lie algebra generators of the fundamental vector fields on P.

Let be an affine bundle modelled over a vector bundle . A connection on is called the affine connection if it as a section of the jet bundle of is an affine bundle morphism over . In particular, this is the case of an affine connection on the tangent bundle of a smooth manifold .

An affine bundle is a fiber bundle with a general affine structure group of affine transformations of its typical fiber of dimension . Therefore, an affine connection is associated to a principal connection. It always exists.

For any affine connection , the corresponding linear derivative of an affine morphism defines a unique linear connection on a vector bundle . With respect to linear bundle coordinates on , this connection reads

Since every vector bundle is an affine bundle, any linear connection on a vector bundle also is an affine connection.

If is a vector bundle, both an affine connection and an associated linear connection are connections on the same vector bundle , and their difference is a basic soldering form on . Thus, every affine connection on a vector bundle is a sum of a linear connection and a basic soldering form on .

Connection (Elastica song)

"Connection" is a song released by the Britpop group Elastica. It was originally released in 1994 as a single and the album version was not released until 1995 on their self-titled debut.

The song was the subject of controversy, due to its overt similarity to another band's work. The intro synthesizer part (later repeated as a guitar figure) is lifted from the guitar riff in Wire's "Three Girl Rhumba" and transposed down a semitone. A judgment resulted in an out-of-court settlement and the credits were rewritten.

The song is the theme to the UK television programme Trigger Happy TV. A live version of the song was featured on the MuchMusic live compilation album, Much at Edgefest '99.

The song was covered by Elastica's label-mates Collapsed Lung and released as a seven-inch vinyl single in 1995.

Agkistrodon piscivorus

Agkistrodon piscivorus is a venomous snake, a species of pit viper, found in the southeastern United States. Adults are large and capable of delivering a painful and potentially fatal bite. When antagonized, they will stand their ground by coiling their bodies and displaying their fangs. Although their aggression has been exaggerated, individuals may bite when feeling threatened or being handled. This is the world's only semiaquatic viper, usually found in or near water, particularly in slow-moving and shallow lakes, streams, and marshes. The snake is a strong swimmer and will even enter the sea. It has successfully colonized islands off both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

The generic name is derived from the Greek words ancistro (hooked) and odon (tooth), and the specific name comes from the Latin piscis (fish) and voro (to eat); thus, the scientific name translates into “hooked-tooth fish-eater”. Common names include variants on water moccasin, swamp moccasin, black moccasin, cottonmouth, gapper, or simply viper. Many of the common names refer to the threat display, where this species will often stand its ground and gape at an intruder, exposing the white lining of its mouth. Three subspecies are currently recognized, including the nominate subspecies described here. Its diet consists mainly of fish and frogs but is otherwise highly varied and, uniquely, has even been reported to include carrion.

Congo River

The Congo River (also known as the Zaire River; French: (le) fleuve Congo/Zaïre; Portuguese: rio Congo/Zaire) is a river in Africa. It is the second largest river in the world by discharge (after the Amazon), and the world's deepest river with measured depths in excess of 220 m (720 ft). The Congo-Chambeshi river has an overall length of 4,700 km (2,920 mi), which makes it the ninth longest river (in terms of discharge, the Chambeshi is a tributary of the Lualaba River, Lualaba being the name of the Congo River upstream of the Boyoma Falls, extending for 1,800 km). Measured along the Lualaba, the Congo River has a total length of 4,370 km (2,715 mi). It crosses the equator twice. The Congo Basin has a total area of about 4 million km², or 13% of the entire African landmass.

Name

The River Congo got its name from the Kingdom of Kongo which was situated on the left banks of the river estuary. The kingdom is in turn named for its Bantu population, in the 17th century reported as Esikongo. South of the Kongo kingdom proper lay the similarly named Kakongo kingdom, mentioned in 1535. Abraham Ortelius in his world map of 1564 labels as Manicongo the city at the mouth of the river. The tribal names in kongo possibly derive from a word for a public gathering or tribal assembly.

In the Voodoo faith, Congo is a handsome but apathetic loa.

In the Congo Savanne aspect, he is a fierce petro loa. He is a powerful man-eating loa, who's patron color is white.
