In which John Green teaches you about the Protestant Reformation. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, pretty much everyone in Europe was a Roman Catholic. Not to get all great man, but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe.

Pope John Paul II praised Polish martyrs as examples for today's generation, pressing his countrymen on Sunday to cling to their Roman Catholic faith.
The Pontiff made the appeal at his second Mass in 24-hours - he's already addressed more than a million people, with millions more watching each event on national television.
The trip is seen as a homage to the land of his birth and an attempt to halt a slide in the influence of the church among younger Poles.
Some 300 thousand people stood on a grassy hillside in the town of Peplin near the Baltic coast on Sunday.

POLAND: POPE JOHN PAUL II VISIT UPDATE
Natural Sound
Pope John Paul the Second started an 11-day visit to his native Poland on Saturday with a visit to the southwestern city of Wroclaw.
On Sunday half a (m) million people are expected to visit the city to try to get a glimpse of the pontiff when he says mass at the close of a Eucharistic Congress.
A homecoming for Pope John Paul the Second.
The papal plane touched down in Warsaw on Saturday bringing the pontiff for his seventh visit to his native land as pope.
Hundreds of flag-waving well-wishers turned out to welcome the 77-year-old Roman Catholic leader.
Looking frail, John Paul emerged under a shower of light rain to be greeted by religious and political dignitaries.
The pontiff told the crowd that Poland can play an important role in the family of European nations.
Poland has been pushing hard for quick acceptance into NATO and the European Union.
John Paul said although he's now living far away in Italy he never ceases to feel like a child of Poland.
And he joked about the cold drizzle that greeted him, calling it "true Polish weather."
Crowds numbering in the tens of thousands lined the 7-mile (11-kilometre) route from the airport to the Gothic twin-spired St. John the Baptist Cathedral, John Paul's first stop.
Inside the cathedral, where Poland's 115 bishops were assembled, delighted nuns reached out to touch John Paul as he walked down the centre aisle.
The pontiff then visited Wroclaw Town Hall where, watched, by President Kwasniewski, he signed his name to loud applause.
The pope continued on to the International Eucharistic Congress, which has been in session all week.
The Congress has brought together all Christian denominations and the Pope's presence there was greeted with a standing ovation.
On Sunday, he'll say mass at the Congress' close.
Church officials say they expect half a (m) million people to visit the city to try to get a glimpse of him.
The trip will be one of the longest tours of his 19-year papacy; the pope plans to visit 12 cities in 11 days.
The Polish trip also takes in the cities of Pozan and Krakow.
The trip also will include nostalgia.
The pope will visit his parents' tomb, the Tatra mountains where he used to ski and the school where he secretly studied theology during the Nazi occupation.

Pope John Paul II Documentary
Papa Giovanni Paolo II (in latino: Ioannes Paulus PP.

Luther and the Protestant Reformation: Crash Course World History #218
In which John Green teaches you about the Protestant Reformation. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, pretty much everyone in Europe was a Roman Catholic. Not to get all great man, but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe.

POLAND: POPE JOHN PAUL II VISIT
Natural Sound
Pope John Paul II praised Polish martyrs as examples for today's generation, pressing his countrymen on Sunday to cling to their Roman Catholic faith.
The Pontiff made the appeal at his second Mass in 24-hours - he's already addressed more than a million people, with millions more watching each event on national television.
The trip is seen as a homage to the land of his birth and an attempt to halt a slide in the influence of the church among younger Poles.
Some 300 thousand people stood on a grassy hillside in the town of Peplin near the Baltic coast on Sunday.
During World War II, the church in the region suffered heavily at the hands of the Nazis, with some 350 priests killed.
The pope spoke from a steel altar in the form of a fishing net and beside a 33-meter (108-foot) cross.
The 79-year-old's voice was strong, but his hands trembled as he held the sheets of his homily.
Slurred speech and a tremor have led to speculation he suffers from Parkinson's disease.
During his Sunday address, the pope referred to the long tradition of sacrifice saying it must continue into the third millennium.
While speaking of the past, he also had stern words for what he called the "temptation" today to misrepresent church teaching.
The most nostalgic portion of the trip will in eight day's time when John Paul visits his birthplace and the city of Krakow, where he became a priest and served as archbishop.
But he drew cheers in Peplin when he recalled his days kayaking in the Brda River.
The pope is clearly moved by a return to Poland after a two-year absence and the huge crowds demonstrate his personal appeal remains undiminished.
However, many are concerned that this eighth homecoming by John Paul II could be the last.

STORYLINE:
Poland welcomed Pope Benedict XVI with cheers and fluttering yellow and white Vatican flags on Thursday, as the German-born pope started a four-day visit to honour predecessor John Paul II and to heal wounds from World War II.
Benedict beamed broadly and waved as he descended from the plane, and managed to keep his skullcap from flying off in a brisk breeze, unlike his arrival on his first foreign trip in Germany last year.
The visit will touch on some of the most painful memories of Europe's past, including a visit by the pope to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, where the Nazis killed 1.5 million (m) people, mostly Jews.
The visit was for "thinking about all the dead and trying to learn how man can fall and lose his dignity by stepping on others," said the Pope on the plane, speaking Italian.
Asked by journalists how he felt about visiting Auschwitz as a German, Benedict said, "I am above all a Catholic. I must say that this is the most important point."
On arriving, the Pope said in Polish "I am happy to stand in your midst today on the soil of the Republic of Poland. I have very much wanted to make this visit to the native land and people of my beloved predecessor, the servant of God John Paul II."
Benedict drew a roar of applause as he launched into his speech, speaking first in Polish, later switching to Italian.
The crowd gathered at the airport cheered and a choir sang "The Barge," John Paul's favourite song, just one sign of how the late pope remains a strong presence in Poland more than a year after his death.
Benedict rode into town and made a ceremonial entry into the Cathedral of John the Baptist for a meeting with Polish clergy, accompanied by choral singing and prolonged, loud applause.
The turn-out didn't quite match the frenzied anticipation that characterised native son John Paul's visits, but many people turned out early to hold yellow and white Vatican flags and watch as the pope passed by in his glass-enclosed "pope-mobile".

Organizers feared the gang disturbances of the notorious “Summer of Violence” would scare away visitors, and yet for those 5 and half days, all violence ceased. This episode of Colorado Experience examines the largest gathering in Colorado history. Colorado Experience: Pope John Paul II
750,000 participants from 72 countries convened in Denver in the summer of 1993 for World Youth Day and a visit from the Pope. Organizers feared the gang disturbances of the notorious “Summer of Violence” would scare away visitors, and yet for those 5 and half days, all violence ceased. This episode of Colorado Experience examines the largest gathering in Colorado history. Archival photographs, footage and modern-day interviews track the historic visit of Pope John Paul II, the Catholic Church’s revered leader.

Cuba: Arrival of Pope John Paul II, USA: Interview With Fidel Castro's Sister Juanita
Cuba: Arrival of Pope John Paul II
71035
APTV
Havana, Cuba - 21 January 1998
Pope welcomed by Castro - shake hands
Pope kisses soil and children
Pope and Castro walking
Castro and Pope listening to hymns and Pope takes off hat
Closeup of Pope
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Fidel Castro, Cuban President
"Today, Holy Father, genocide is attempted again when by hunger, illness and total economic suffocation some try to subdue this people that refuses to accept the dictates and the rule of the mightiest economic, political and military power in history; much more powerful than the old Rome that for centuries had the beasts devour those who refused to abdicate their faith. Like those Christians horribly slandered to justify their crimes, we who are as slandered as they were, we choose a thousand times death rather than abdicate our convictions."
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Pope John Paul II
"May Cuba, with all its magnificent potential, open itself up to the world, and may the world open itself up to Cuba."
USA: Interview With Fidel Castro's Sister Juanita
71050
APTV
Miami, Florida, USA - 21 January 1998
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Juanita Castro, Fidel Castro's sister
"It was my brother who I saw. But the reality is that my brother is Cuba's dictator - I suppose because of his position, because of his behaviour, because of the way he has managed the country during the last 38, 39 years. However, I have never stopped thinking of him as my brother, not as a political leader."
SOUNDBITE: ((Spanish) Juanita Castro, Fidel Castro's sister
"It is very difficult to tell you what Fidel is capable of doing now, at this time, when the situation in the country reflects the peoples unhappiness. Who knows? Hopefully the Pope is able to get from him many things. Among them the liberation of many political prisoners. That would be great. At least it would be one of the important steps that could come out of this. I hope the Pope is able to achieve it."

Documentary: Papal Guard
After the death of the Borgia pope, Alexander VI (1492 – 1503), and upon the death of Pius III who reigned in 1503 for less than a month, the new pope, Julius II, pursued military solutions to a host of problems left to him by Alexander’s attempt to create a Borgia dynasty. Julius led papal armies in a variety of military campaigns earning the name of The Warrior Pope. He proved to be an energetic defender of the Papal States and led his military campaigns in full battle dress. His nickname was Julius the Terrible. It was Pope Julius who first established a permanent corps of the Pontifical Swiss Guard at the Vatican, and granted them the tit

The Cunning Genius of the Vatican Papal System
As the background of the structure of the Catholic Church is alarming, an exposure of its system is essential. Biblical and historical analysis of the Papal system is required so that its influence can be prevented. This we have done in this Video It is utterly important to remember that “those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” As many Christian people, and indeed Evangelical churches, have been harmed because of their ignorance of the genius of Vatican procedures please make this video known to your family and friends, thank you.
The full list of popes from Peter up through John Paul II, including many mentioned as martyrs, is found in I Sommi Pontifici Romani, Annuario Pontificio, and the iconography of the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls.

Historians use the term "Medieval Inquisition" to describe the various inquisitions that started around 1184, including the Episcopal Inquisition (1184–1230s) and later the Papal Inquisition (1230s). These inquisitions responded to large popular movements throughout Europe considered apostate or heretical to Christianity, in particular the Cathars in southern France and the Waldensians in both southern France and northern Italy. Other Inquisitions followed after these first inquisition movements. Legal basis for some inquisitorial activity came from Pope Innocent IV's papal bull Ad extirpanda of 1252, which explicitly authorized (and defined the appropriate circumstances for) the use of torture by the Inquisition for eliciting confessions from heretics. By 1256 inquisitors were given absolution if they used instruments of torture.
In the 13th century, most inquisitors were friars who taught theology and/or law in the universities. They used inquisitorial procedures, a common legal practice adapted from the earlier Ancient Roman court procedures. They judged heresy along with bishops and groups of "assessors" (clergy serving in a role that was roughly analogous to a jury or legal advisers), using the local authorities to establish a tribunal and to prosecute heretics. After 1200, a Grand Inquisitor headed each Inquisition. Grand Inquisitions persisted until the mid 19th century.
"In 1252 Innocent IV licensed the use of torture to obtain evidence from suspects, and by 1256 inquisitors were allowed to absolve each other if they used instruments of torture themselves, rather than relying on lay agents for the purpose...".

Sins of Illegit Royals1, Rothschilds, Popes, PMs, Polis, Archbishop, Uni VC, 140M war graves
This is the sad sad story that has HRH Queen Elizabeth the 2nd on the front pages of all the treasonous newspapers REVEALING that someone has released a photo of her doing a NAZI salute. Same weekend the OPEN golf tournament has had to be extended by one whole day because of the WINDSTORMS & FLOODS that have hit Scotland since I compiled this info. SO I EXPLAIN the Monarchy, Millitias, Polis, Religious fraudsters that own the world in FEAR perpetually of the MONEY LENDERS who profit from all wars, fund all sides and KILLS ANYONE who gets in their ruthless way. Openly declared in the UK and US National anthems.....so please get in touch on facebook if you care about the future. SO WHY is the Queen on the front page as a NAZI? Just Listen and I will write down the key familicides, genocides or HOLOCAUSTS that steal the world. The WARNER Bros were from Poland who left in a massive diaspora to the USA. ..they lived within 100Kms of TREBLINKA.....their home town was sadly the host to the first massacre in the WW2 Holocaust. The JEWISH community of Krasnosielc (Warner alias option 1. Voron 2.Wonskolaser or 3.Wonsal) ceased to exist in early September 1939. Taken down so that the warner bros could run US propaganda and ZIONIST Hollywood right into the KINGS Speech (the culprits stammer on the W word to let us know they are the WINDSORS and their news fakers). All the Warner Bros output since THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY (silent movie on just one of the pan continental FRAUDS they run and cover up). But FIRST THE WINDSORS & the STORMS. HRH still acknowledges in her XMAS speech (X representing the Jesus Christ Fake) that the English and German families led by German monarchs Emperors Both sides can be peaceful for one day in European history cos they are behind the Church of England & Rome scams and the leadership teams in WW1 & WW2 (the W word again). This year HRH issued ceramic poppies as the richest person on the globe with vast tracts of its land in her name or gifted to Charlie cos he is not a legit monarch like the other bastard children she has bourn to European Royals or PMs. Her Half Brother is Bill Clinton. Life of Pi, national Velvet, Warhorse ALL GET OSCARS....Princess Di is a victim of Familicide: orders given by Phil the Greek boss at the NAVY for 30 years & MI6 cos HRH is lazy. The Queen Vic persecution is explained again. 9 of queen Victorias' children were sired by the Rothschilds one by John Brown and the other who was murdered by Edward VII was the child of BLIND PRINCE GEORGE of CUMBRIA & TEVIOTDALE (near Jed Sheriff Court SLAVES to the CROWN OFFICE ). Velvet Brown played by Liz Taylor is the PI horse joke about the PISOS the bible authors. The air balloon joke (see Lilly allens sick video) is about Jesus going home and the Gt Train Robbery is a WARNER scam and an Eccleston, ronnie Biggs scam in Bucks to cover Govt & Cold War corruption & sleeze. So they change name in 1917 (see blackadder trenches scene) to WINSOR cos ALBERT who they murdered is German (Saxe Coburg/Wettin). The quakes & Volcanoes confirm these evil religious monarchy scams.
Princess victoria married George of Cumbria/Hanover to make her a Royal and they sired a murdered child murdered by the family that are now the WINDSORS....like poof Prince Albert murdered in his bedroom. Greg Hallett has been taken down for exposing this GLOBALISED fraud. The laws of succession were changed at Cobham Common and I had to leave my painting of Cobham in NZ where Greg Hallett was a citizen. Then I get onto Jackie O and my wife's dessertion of the worlds most innocent people....as SPYS, marks and Sparks and opportunists on behalf of the worlds' tyrants and thiefs. so Prince Albert wore a chain on his PENIS so he could not have sex with her even if he wanted to as the chosen homosexul....HE IS THE REASON they used to get rid of the GERMAN label.
It was Pope Julius who first established a permanent corps of the Pontifical Swiss Guard at the Vatican, and granted them the title of Defenders of the Church’s Freedom.
The Swiss Guard has varied in size over the years. Its most significant, hostile engagement was on May 6, 1527 when 147 of the 189 Guards lost their lives during the Sack of Rome in order to allow Clement VII to escape escorted by the other forty guards. They have served popes since the 16th century, operating mostly as a ceremonial escort to the pope. Swiss guardsmen must be Catholic males between the ages of nineteen and thirty years of age and at least 5′ 9″ tall. They must have the recommendation of their local parish and have served in a basic military school in Switzerland. They serve for a period of two years.
The uniform of the Swiss Guard, of which there are two styles in the Collection, is a Renaissance style weighing eight pounds. Its colors are those of the Medici coat of arms in honor of Clement VII. It is often thought that Michelangelo designed the uniform. He did not.
Service includes physical training, drills and instruction in combat. Enrollment into the Swiss Guard takes place on May 6th each year in honor of the day in 1527 when their forebears died defending Pope Clement VII.
