The Orthodox Church is composed of several self-governing ecclesial bodies, each geographically and nationally distinct but theologically unified. Each self-governing (or autocephalous) body, often but not always encompassing a nation, is shepherded by a Holy Synod whose duty, among other things, is to preserve and teach the apostolic and patristic traditions and related church practices. Like the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Communion, Assyrian Church of the East, Oriental Orthodoxy and some other churches, Orthodox bishops trace their lineage back to the apostles through the process of apostolic succession.

Romanian Patriarchal Cathedral Choir "Tronos" performing "The Lord's Lamentations" (Jesus Christ's funeral service, held in the Romanian Orthodox Church, on the day of Holy Friday, before the great and Holy Feast of Pascha).
The text of the Lamentations may have been composed by St.Theodore the Studite (+ 826) himself. The melody is a different story. Initially it was a broader version, but the current one dates from the 18th century. In Greek, it is slightly different. The Russians don't sing the Lamentations, but instead read it.

If you never took in school or study History of Christianity or the Christian Church, this (3 Part Documentary) will help you a lot. Our journey begins with the founding of the Church, the spread of Christianity to "nations" by the Apostles, the Gospel and the institution of Sacraments. After the stabilization of the Church, the journey continues through the period of the Nicene Creed, Patristic Scriptures, Divine Liturgy and Icons. During this same period, however, the official division of East and West is witnessed and concludes with a gradual rift in matters of faith, dogma, church customs, politics and culture. If you are Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England, founded by Samuel Senbury in the American colonies in the 17th century. If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1606. If you are of the Dutch Reformed Church, you recognize Michelis Jones as founder because he originated your religion in New York in 1628. If you are a Methodist, your religion was founded by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1774. If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, New York, in 1829. If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865. If you are Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.
If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as "Church of the Nazarene, Pentecostal Gospel," "Holiness Church," or "Jehovah's Witnesses," your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past hundred years.
If you are Roman Catholic, your church shared the same rich apostolic and doctrinal heritage as the Orthodox Church for the first thousand years of its history, since during the first millennium they were one and the same Church. Lamentably, in 1054, the Pope of Rome broke away from the other four Apostolic Patriarchates (which include Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch and Jerusalem), by tampering with the Original Creed of the Church, and considering himself to be infallible. Thus your church is 1,000 years old.

If you are ORTHODOX Christian, your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It has not changed since that time. Our church is now almost 2,000 years old. And it is for this reason, that Orthodoxy, the Church of the Apostles and the Fathers is considered the true "one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church." This is the greatest legacy that we can pass on to the young people of the new millennium.

ORTHODOX FAITH:
Concerning the Holy Trinity
I believe, confess and worship the Holy Trinity. I worship the One, Holy, Indivisible, Consubstantial, Life-Creating and Most Holy Trinity. In the Trinity I worship three persons -- three hypostases -- that of the Father, that of the Son and that of the Holy Spirit. I do not confuse the persons of the Most Holy Trinity. I do not believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are, as it were, three masks of a single person. None of the persons is alienated from the others, but each has the fulness of the Three together.
Concerning Immortality
I believe that only God is eternal and immortal by nature and in essence. The angels and the souls of men are immortal only because God bestows this immortality upon them by grace. If if were not for the immortality which God bestows by His divine will, neither the angels nor the souls of men would be immortal of themselves.
Men's souls have no pre-existence. The how of the soul's birth, as well as separation from the body at the moment of the latter's biological death that it might be reunited to the body when the dead are raised at the Second and glorious Coming of our Saviour is a mystery which has not been revealed to us.

Why Reuniting the Eastern Orthodox Church to the Roman Church Is Nearly Impossible mp3
The speaker, Father Thomas Hopko, is one of the greatest English-speaking academic scholars in the Eastern Orthodox Church. He is also, one the more liberal (on the subject of unifying the Christian faith) spokesmen for the Eastern Orthodox Church. Father Tom is Dean Emeritus of St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and the author of numerous books and articles. He is very optimistic compared to most other well-informed Orthodox leaders.
Can the Roman Catholics, reject the filoque, purgatory, papal authority as we know it, the Immaculate Conception, the normative use of unleavened bread for Communion, and more? If not, one of Orthodoxy's most easy going and most willing to recommend compromise paints an ugly picture for those Roman Christians who feel this centuries-old schism can some how be set aside.
Remember, in the Orthodox Church, no single person, no committee and not even a popular vote can change anything concerning the faith. Jude 3. So, it is simply impossible for the Orthodox Church to adopt the Roman position on these issues.

Holy Orthodoxy: The Ancient Church of Acts in the 21st Century
The Orthodox Church may seem exotic, foreign, baroque, or worse-- "traditions of men" or "works-based salvation," yet it sees itself as nothing more than pure, simple, original, and authentic Christianity. Here's a great little documentary on the Orthodox as understood from their own perspective.

History of Orthodox Christianity - Part Ι (Beginnings) Ορθοδοξία
If you never took in school or study History of Christianity or the Christian Church, this (3 Part Documentary) will help you a lot. Our journey begins with the founding of the Church, the spread of Christianity to "nations" by the Apostles, the Gospel and the institution of Sacraments. After the stabilization of the Church, the journey continues through the period of the Nicene Creed, Patristic Scriptures, Divine Liturgy and Icons. During this same period, however, the official division of East and West is witnessed and concludes with a gradual rift in matters of faith, dogma, church customs, politics and culture. The Church becomes the only institution perceived by Greeks as the preserver of their national identity during 400 years of Turkish rule. By the end of the 19th century, a worldwide Orthodox community is born and the Church expands its influence to major social and philanthropic concerns.
GOD bless you

As historically a central pole of national identity, and with a new politics of nationalism evident, the way in which the Greek Orthodox Church is impacted by Greece’s economic crisis and how it responds to it is of major importance to the nation’s public and social affairs. The Bishop has a strong record of connecting the Church to contemporary social issues and of opening up to other faiths. This lecture will address the challenges posed by the crisis.

How old is the ORTHODOX faith?
If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex-monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517. If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to re-marry. If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560. If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.
Thus your church is 1,000 years old.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
_______________________________________
If you are ORTHODOX Christian, your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It has not changed since that time. Our church is now almost 2,000 years old. And it is for this reason, that Orthodoxy, the Church of the Apostles and the Fathers is considered the true "one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church." This is the greatest legacy that we can pass on to the young people of the new millennium.

and a ROMANIAN site about ORTHODOXY in English:
http://www.sfaturiortodoxe.ro/orthodox/index.htm

Speaker: His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias and Almyros
Recorded on 12 November 2014 in Hong Kong Theatre, Clement House.
His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias and Almyros is a Diocesan Bishop of the Church of Greece. H. E. Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias, member of many synodal commissions of the Church of Greece, is also President of the Board of Directors of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, and of the General Assembly of the Greek Bible Society, while for the last twenty years he was presenting the religious emission on the Greek TV.
