B Adventure, Travel Series: Philippines 2015. Season 2, Episode 1. Guide, tips, and advice. Hanging out in Makati Manila, popular CBD and tourist area. The Fort Strip Taguig City, Manila, is the popular nightlife district with plenty of nightclubs, lounges, and restaurants. More detailed info and links below.
The Clipper Hotel, Makati Manila.
http://www.theclipperhotel.com/index.html
Cruising around Makati Manila.
Buddha-Bar, Makati Manila.
Taguig City, Manila. Also called The Fort, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Bonifacio High Street. There was a food festival market, dog show, and live band that night.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
Its important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
Its common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start. Ask locals what it costs to your location. If you are not comfortable, don't use that taxi. Don't be afraid to move on and find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be tough, but be respectful and polite. Shop around, you can often get a better price. Ask around about local fair pricing for things you want to do.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP200 - 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

Some people may be interested in retiring in Philippines to live their dreams. I highly recommend you visit first, and explore the areas you are interested in. Take a few weeks or months to see if you like it and can fit in. I know successful expats who stayed and have a happy life, and others who left Philippines after a few years. Living in a city long term is not the same as a short vacation. So you will have to get use to local standards. A local standard of living cost can be very affordable, depending on your lifestyle. But a high Western standard like living in America or Australia would cost the same or more than living back home in USA or AU. I've seen other party goers living beyond their means and they get into trouble or run out of money real quick.

Makati City:
The Red Light Restaurant. Ground Floor, W Young Building, Felipe Street, Makati, 1209 Metro Manila.
BAGA Manila Food Bazaar, across from A.Venue Mall Makati, Metro Manila. BBQ food market is open most nights. Live bands and entertainment on Friday nights.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
It is important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
It is common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners.
Generally you will notice ash and dust particles in the air as burning trash and charcoal BBQ cooking is quite common. Also if there is a lot of vehicle traffic in that city from Jeepney buses, motorbikes, trucks and cars.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be firm and confident, but always be respectful and polite.
I highly recommend you visit first, and explore the areas you are interested in first.

Travel Philippines, Season 2, Ep38. Makati City, Metro Manila, popular CBD and tourist area. Plenty of shopping malls, restaurants, and nightlife. Many popular malls: Century City Mall, Greenbelt Mall (complex of 5 buildings), Glorietta and SM Makati. I have a really good conversation with my friendly taxi driver on the 2016 Philippines presidential election. Then visit Mang Inasal, marinated grilled chicken restaurant chain.

The airport taxi drama. This was the first time I had opportunists and scammers approach me so close to the genuine taxi rank. Usually they are across the road at the airport exit area, offering private cars or fake taxi's which charge PHP1000-2000+ (pesos). I ended up getting a fixed rate coupon taxi to save time and further frustration. Should have got a standard metered taxi. Foreigners will always be targeted by opportunists and hassled regularly for money, especially in bigger cities.
I end up having a really good conversation with my friendly taxi driver. The next presidential election in the Philippines is scheduled for May 2016. So candidates are already being discussed. There has also been much speculation on Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City running for president. Mayor Duterte is known for his successful administration of Davao City in Mindanao region. Davao is now the safest city in Philippines, and also ranked internationally as one of the safest in the world. Mayor Duterte has previously stated he is not running for president, but recent news suggests a possible change of mind.
Mang Inasal is known for its inasal na manok, marinated grilled chicken and other dishes. Corner or Jupiter, and Makati Ave, Metro Manila. It's a big chain brand so there are restaurants everywhere in Manila. There are more than 460 stores across the country. Great food, and catching up with local friends.

B Adventures, Travel Series: Philippines 2013, Season 1, Episode 1 of 26. Guide, tips, and advice.
Arriving in Manila, stayed in Makati City. Makati is a popular tourist district, commercial and business area. Plenty of shopping, restaurants and nightlife.
Exploring Makati:
The Clipper Hotel, great customer service.
http://www.theclipperhotel.com/index.html
Greenbelt Mall, series of multiple malls.
Gerry's Grill restaurant, Greenbelt.
Botong's restaurant and karaoke bar.
BAGA Manila Food Bazaar, A. Venue, Makati.
Clube Haze, The Fort Strip, Taguig City.
Regarding the street people in Makati Manila, I bought many of them rice and stir fry dinners and bottled water. I interviewed a few of them off camera and they all confirmed they had come to that area for the holiday and tourist season to try beg for money from foreigners. They were there by choice, and went back to their provinces after new years.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
Its important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
Its common for taxi drivers in Manila to try rip you off. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start if you know what it costs to your location. Otherwise find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be tough, but be respectful and polite about it. Shop around, you can often get a better price.

The average basic worker earns PHP 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

Makati Square Mall.
2130 Don Chino Roces Ave, Pio Del Pilar (between Arnaiz Ave & Fernando), 1231 Makati City.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
It is important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
It is common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners.
Shop around, you can often get a better price. Ask around about local fair pricing for things you want to do.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.

Travel Philippines, Season 2, Ep42. Makati City, Metro Manila, popular CBD and tourist area. Armscor gun club and indoor shooting range, at Makati Cinema Square Mall basement level. Armscor is marketed as Rock Island Armory (RIA) in USA. Armscor Shooting Range and Gun Club.
1st Basement Makati Cinema Square Chino Roces Avenue, Makati, 1224 Metro Manila.
Tried a 1911 .45 ACP pistol, and MAP1 9mm full size pistol (aka Tanfoglio Force or CZ 75 copy). The Armscor range and gun hire prices at the time were PHP1500 each firearm. Comes with paper targets, eye, and ear protection, and you are supervised by a range and safety officer. Pistols came with 50 rounds of factory lead reloads, pump action shotguns came with 12 rounds. I did not try the shotgun. This was actually a well priced and modern indoor range at the time, with good customer service and helpful staff. Other ranges I investigated were more expensive, and had lower standards.
GUN SAFETY (ESPECIALLY FOR NEW SHOOTERS & TOURISTS):
(1) Assume every firearm is loaded.
(2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy (always point in a safe direction).
(3) Keep your finger OFF the trigger until your sights are on the target.
(4) Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
(5) Remember to wash you hands and face thoroughly with soap after shooting or handling ammunition to remove any toxic residue or lead.

Shinjuku Ramen Buta Kakuni Gyoza Little Tokyo Makati Chino Roces Avenue. Shinjuku Ramen House Little Tokyo Makati Best Gyoza and Buta Kakuni Ramen Japanese Restaurant. Shinjuku Ramen is one of the oldest Japanese owned Ramen Houses in Manila having been in operations since the 90's. The original branch in Little Tokyo has been recently renovated in 2014 to provide more comfortable table seating for its guests as before it was catered more towards single Japanese business men dining alone. Shinjuku Ramen has survived this long as their food has been consistent and Japanese clients and ourselves keep coming back for the best Gyoza and signature Buta Kakuni Ramen in town! Buta Kakuni is a Japanese style of braised pork belly originating in southern Japann’s Nagasaki in Kyushu Island. What makes Buta Kakuni so delicious? It’s tender, juicy chunks of pork belly that have been braised until tender and glazed in a braising liquid combination made from dashi, mirin, sugar, and soy sauce and Shinjuku makes it so well that it literally melts in your mouth.
Their gyoza is massive and juicy and an excellent stand alone dish or to complement to your ramen, and trust us well worth the price if you are a die hard gyoza fan.

Learn how to ride the local train and other transportation options in Manila.
You do not need to rent a car when going around MetroManila because there is a lot of transport. You can take the bus, taxi, jeepney, train, or even a horse carriage. I am going to the city of Manila, so I am taking the LRT, which is my fastest transport option.
There are two elevated railway systems in MetroManila, the MIT and the LRT. The LRT travels in a single line and passes through the city of Manila, so you will not have any problems getting to your destinations. Another option is the MIT. It passes through Makati, Mandaluyong, San Juan, and Quezon City. I am going to Central Station, and I am buying my ticket. I am waiting for the train, which arrives in fifteen-minute intervals. Here is the train now.
Be sure to have your ticket with you at all times; otherwise, you will not get out of the station. You do not have to call by telephone to get a taxi because they are practically everywhere. When riding a taxi, make sure the meter is on and working. Colorful jeepneys ply through most places and are good for short distances. For a taste of local color, try riding the kalesas, which are available in some old neighborhoods in Manila. That was a great ride! I am Roselyn Cantos, showing you Manila.

Ramen Nagi Greenbelt 2 Makati Now Open. Ramen Nagi opened their Makati branch at the posh Greenbelt 2 Ayala Center Makati on December 4, 2014. Ramen Nagi is a Tokyo based Ramen house conceptualized by ramen master Satoshi Ikuta. The Ramen Nagi chain has branches all over Asia—Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia. The first franchise branch in the Philippines was opened on December 16, 2013 by partners Winnie C. Go, Michael James Chua, Carissa Coscolluela, Roxanne Farillas, Enti Coscolluela, Avi Siy-Coscolluela, and Erickson Farillas. They offer 5 kinds of artisinal ramen which are prepared by Japanese Ramen Master Chef Ikuta Satoshi:
Butao King - Signature Tonkotsu
Red King - Spicy Miso
Black King - Squid Ink, Garlic and Black Sesame
Green King - Basil and Parmesan Cheese
Limited Ebi King - Shrimp and pork based broth
Highly recommended are their Black King with squid ink and Green King with pesto flavor. Choose extra hard for noodles and get the Aji Tamago! While we would have preferred the noodles to be a bit more firm and bouncy, this may be a result of birthing pains. Definitely on our top list of ramen houses in Manila!

A brief documentary about Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. Every year, more than 5.5 million tourists take their vacations in the Philippines, and often Manila is their very first stop.
Nearly 16 million people live in the Metro Manila area, which is made up of many smaller cities, including Makati, Pasay, Pasig, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, and more.
Manila is where big business takes place, where major investments are made, and where residential and commercial real estate is never-ending. Many tourists enjoy the malls, the restaurants, the museums, the nightlife, and even the beautiful Manila Bay. Probably, the biggest tourist attraction is the SM Mall of Asia - the 3rd largest mall in the world.
