[–]neebick 24 points25 points  (8 children)

I think it’s a bug with something. I have my game installed on a Samsung 980 pro that benchmarks at 6800mb/s on crystaldiskmark and I’m having the same issues. For me it resets the lod when paused then quickly reverts to the extremely low lod after a few seconds. It’s continuous and repeatable. Support has been little help. Reboot the computer has been the only way to reliably fix it.

[–]HiCZoK[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

mmm interesting. Friend confirmed this is installed on HDD though (it's my friend's pic)

[–]largePenisLover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This one is really interesting, You can see lodding IS working, just that it's distance values are off.
Green hat bro is closer to the cam but is also using the wrong lod model, look at his ear to see he's not at full detail. If the FBI agent is at LOD:0 then he is at lod:1 or 2. Flannel shirt bro is a few units further away and is using even lower lods.
This is some lod distance multiplier fucking up.
This is on the game, it has nothing to do with your hardware.

[–]Nerrs 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I have this issue in my NVMe drive, it's definitely rendering based since it loads and shows everything perfectly at first it then reverts back to terrible graphics.

[–]CheezyWookiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes same here, ugh it sucks because it breaks any and all ray tracing no matter how low I put the resolution (I even tried 360p and I could still see textures go to shit).

[–]Shirnam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem and ended up updating my GPU drivers and that fixed it. I played most of the game in that sorry state and now I'm thinking of doing another playthrough to see what it actually looks like

[–]CryioPC 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You either don't have the game actually installed on the SSD or maybe you haven't updated your firmware yet and the 980 Pro is dying.

ALSO, random geometry decomposition can happen when you massively run out of VRAM in this game, if you're trying higher settings / higher resolutions / RT.

[–]neebick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only mentioned the benchmark since I ran it yesterday to confirm that it was running fine. It’s definitely running from the ssd since I did a clean install and upgrade in August. All drivers and firmware have been checked and upgraded before even putting a support ticket in for this issue.

I’m leaning towards some kind of memory leak since it only occurs after about 2 hours of gameplay. Changing graphical settings seems to have no effect on it. I’m running a 4070 which doesn’t have the most ram but also isn’t scraping the bottom of the barrel. It’s just funny since nvidia has a promotional deal with this game and yet can’t run it consistently. I did see another post that linked to an nvidia hotfix driver from the 7th that mentioned a fix that sounded like my issue. Got it installed but haven’t tested it yet due to time constraints.

[–]ZenWheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running with a 980 pro and haven't seen this issue. It seems like it'd be more related to vram to me but who knows

[–]Innovictos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Based on observations of my wife, flannel shirt there just needs some more of that coffee and he'll be right as rain.

[–]Quaschimodo 2 points3 points  (5 children)

even my SATA SSD is too slow for this game at times. at least when loading the area maps it's noticable. really recommend an M.2 PCIe SSD for this one.

[–]JoakimSpinglefarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game makes upwards of 2GB read calls to your storage drive (READ calls, not write. It's writing to an SSD that causes wear.) because the game is basically using your storage drive like more RAM like back in the N64 days, so yeah; you're gonna want a 3GB/S SSD at minimum for AW2.

[–]Sopel97 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

[–]Quaschimodo 0 points1 point  (2 children)

it is fast enough tho. I've yet to encounter texture pop-in in the actual gameplay. Only things that are noticable are maps and script pages.

[–]Sopel97 0 points1 point  (1 child)

so it is noticably slow for some assets

[–]Quaschimodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually, makes no difference. just moved the game to my NVMe Drive. map still has the same pop-in. a SATA SSD is enough.

[–]FlatPhee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like the original Max Payne all those years ago

[–]LordWitherhoard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great to me

[–]Adept_Blackhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, man, looks like a fine Switch port for me.

[–]Mordynak 13 points14 points  (39 children)

It's nearly 2024. Why do you have a HDD in a pc?

EDIT: This was intended as a joke kids. I own HDDs. I'm not made of money by any means.

[–]JewpiterUrAnus 21 points22 points  (4 children)

I have a HDD in my PC..

I also have two SSDs and an NVME. But don’t discount HDDs worth. It’s good for films etc

[–]Mordynak 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Was only messing. I still have HDDs but only for storage in a nas. Hidden away, where I can't hear them!

[–]JewpiterUrAnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are noisy buggers

[–]ProTimeKiller -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

Maybe videos, film I'm not sure you can get those on a spinning rust drive. If you can even find film nowdays.

[–]JewpiterUrAnus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Film - noun a form of entertainment that enacts a story by sound and a sequence of images giving the illusion of continuous movement

https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/film#:~:text=Definitions%20of%20film,the%20illusion%20of%20continuous%20movement

If you’re going to be pedantic, you might want to double check you’re right first.

[–]HiCZoK[S] 9 points10 points  (18 children)

nah that's not me. My friend sent me this pic.... but I have no idea why he still uses hdd lol

[–]Nexxus88 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Was telling my ex to install 2077 on her ssd when she replays it and she's going off about how she wants things separated one drive for games one for movies music and doesn't want things other than windows on her ssd so it doesn't "slow it down"

After hours of telling her it doesn't work that way and she's literally just wasting her ssd by not using it I just gave up when she refused.

[–]HiCZoK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha I can imagine that

[–]DariusLMoorePC 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's a sad day when people break up over ssd

[–]Nexxus88 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Like I'm gonna be with some Luddite who buys an SSD then refuses to use it cause storing anything on it will magically make it slower.

Haha nah we have been split years before this convo but keep in touch.

[–]DariusLMoorePC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I thought so. Good that you're still in touch.

[–]Mordynak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Heh. I'm only kidding. Needs must I suppose.

Love that the game is still running, just LODing like mad.

[–]pyracantha_ 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Why don't you? Cheap and (somewhat) reliable bulk storage.

[–]Thing_On_Your_Shelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re still good for some stuff. I don’t keep mine in my PC though, just use an external USB enclosure. Way too loud in my PC and feel like just having one installed slows things down

[–]Mordynak -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

As other reply. I own HDDs. But I wouldn't use them in my pc. Noise. NAS. Blah blah

[–]Bright-Telephone-558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

External enclosures are 10 dollars.

[–]PlayerZeroStart 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Cause HDDs have better price per space ratio and not everyone is made of money

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

This isn’t 2013. SSDs are dirt cheap.

[–]PlayerZeroStart 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Almost $50-100 for just one TB is not what I'd call "dirt cheap", especially since HDD's at the same price have double the space.

[–]Anti-Scuba_Hedgehog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid as much for a 1TB external HDD in 2018.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to what they used to cost they are.

[–]mellowlex 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Just bought a new 6TB drive for under 100€. All my movies and shows will go on there. This capacity with an SSD would cost several times more and wouldn't provide any benefits. We are simply not there yet, even in almost 2024.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m there. I only have m.2 drives.

[–]mellowlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What capacity and what did they cost?

If they don't cost as much as or less than a hard drive with the equivalent storage you are not there.

[–]wrath_of_grunge -1 points0 points  (2 children)

i still use a HDD for my games storage. my OS is on a SSD.

probably gonna upgrade the HDD to a 2TB SSD soon though.

the trick for using a HDD for games, is it needs to be a 7200RPM with good cache.

[–]rydude88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a "good" HDD with those specs is nothing close to a SSD. I'm saying this as someone who had an HDD exactly like that. It was good 10 years ago but that tech is extremely dated for modern gaming

[–]Handzeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with multiple NVMe drives and a 18TB RAID 1 HDD array of 7200RPM with a whopping 512MB cache. These almost state of the art HDDs are antiqued for gaming.

On Linux you could still manage to either load the entire game into RAM before playing if you have a massive amount of RAM using vmtouch (Windows does not offer this manual control of the superfetch RAM cache). Or by having an SSD cache for the HDD in a tiered storage solution like ZFS ARC, BTRFS or Bcache offer. But those solutions are overly complicated (and not even cheaper) alternatives to just using an SSD.

The only value HDDs have for modern (aka developed for current gen only) AAA games are being able to store games you're not currently playing so you can move them back onto the SSD more quickly then redownloading them if you have slow internet. And no couple of hundreds of megabytes of cache will solve that.

A 1TB NVMe drive goes for about $50 these days and will last past the current console generation. It's a completely reasonable ask from developers to require these when every other platform running their games have those.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS2 Classic lol

[–]DifficultyVarious458 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Now people realise but when Cyberpunk came out noobs laughed how broken game was loading textures slowly while using HDDs.

[–]HiCZoK[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

yeah I played 2077 on release. I just got 3080 at launch back then too and I had almost no issues with the game. Loved it even on release

[–]barrydingle100 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

You gave an Ebay scalper $1500 for a graphics card but you won't spend $50 on an M.2 SSD?

I dare say your priorities in managing your gaming PC are assbackwards. An SSD will give you more performance gain than any graphics card will, guarantee you have other bottlenecks throttling that 3080 into uselessness too.

[–]HiCZoK[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What where did you get that from lol. First of all. It’s my friends pic he sent to me. Nowhere I’ve said it’s my pc. 2nd, I’ve got my 3080 as founders editions from Nvidia for 700. No scalping. And 3rd, I don’t have any hdd in my pc for almost 10 years now lol. And 4th I personally played this game on ps5.

[–]Vestalmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it did come out on last gen where SSDs weren’t an option, that should be rightfully criticized

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played it on the original ps4 that I upgraded to an ssd. I had no where near the problems most people had.

[–]Tom60chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Cyberpunk 2077 run much better on my laptop with HDD, 1050 Ti than this game.
It's ridiculous...

[–]rickrecktPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Installed it on SSD, sometimes the ground didn't load fast enough

[–]HiCZoK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

btw supplementary zoom at MR sheriff Breaker over there

https://i.imgur.com/zJaXiaE.jpg

Edit: This is on pc, today (so up to date version) on a 4070 pc. Friend installed this on HDD by mistake

[–]Augusstus 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why does anyone in 2023 not use SSD?

[–]Tom60chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because poor people still exist in 2023.

And games take up more than 100GB of storage, so my SSD fills up fast.

[–]GowlBagJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I went with the ps5 version

[–]IsoleSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's a part of the horror lmao

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The era of hdd is over. Not even a game like baldurs gate 3 loads properly on hdd.

[–]fishkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duh?

[–]Yommination -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Anyone not gaming on an SSD in late 2023 is a dope

[–]Tom60chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or poor 🤷‍♂️

[–]randothrowaway6600 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You had me at do not install Alan Wake 2.

[–]GoblinNumber467 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ngl. Wasn't planning on installing it on anything.

[–]vedomedoPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Wormboy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry the exact same thing would happen on my system and I have an m.2 2tb. It was only random times. But if I did actions like switching to the mind palace and back too quickly sometimes it would happen. Also running 2060 12gbas well.

[–]MisterTryHard69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like puppet combo

[–]CelestialSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]blacklite911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe now mid spec PCs can get decent frame rate.

[–]neonxaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t it actually have a slow HDD option in the settings?

[–]draemen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, reminds me PlayStation days and bad graphics 😆

[–]apittsburghoriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that next gen N64 looks sick

[–]MagicOrpheus310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol that's why you buy a massive HDD to move games onto once you finish them so you always have room for new ones to go straight to the SSD

[–]Kommander-in-Keef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HDDs are essentially obsolete anymore.

[–]theludeguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was ultra wide you would be able to see ps1 Hagrid

[–]ccurry84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played this series. He just has the darkness in him

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's Mr. Shriff to you.

[–]feor1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the PS1 is going on here?!? lol

[–]Thelango99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would a SATA SSD be sufficient?

[–]proxystarx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what happens to me all the time with cyberpunk on HDD, but it still works unlike starfield where it freezes all the time

[–]redant89VT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn looks like a ps1 and a ps2 had a baby

[–]throwdroptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So thats how i look like to other people

[–]srgtDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this kind of posts lol

[–]Mast3rBait3rPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah this looks good bro what are you talking about

[–]DOOMsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, there's only so much space left on my SSD

[–]DtFallDaY69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the lmfao 🤣

[–]herbeperle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it pc or console ? I wonder if it’s even allowed on next gen consoles ?

[–]SightlessHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol the guy with the red shirt looks like he came out of Harry Potter in ps1

[–]Draviddavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN

[–]Rio_Walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this Harry Potter for PS1?

[–]Nonlethalrtard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alan wake 2 is so old they were going to originally make it on N64

[–]cheese_puffs1245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see nothing wrong?

[–]meltingpotatoPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want the PS1 version of the game it seems

[–]fernando1lins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're back at that point in history!

[–]Lionet75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do you do fellow npcs

[–]kenshinagogobaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a feature right here

[–]Burekba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's incredible how hardware disk speed affects textures now in games. I always taught they are loaded into ram and gpu ram

[–]AwiiWasTakenWasTaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't install any modern games on a HDD

you will buy a m.2 drive and you will like it.

[–]ZeldaisdaGOAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone help with getting this to download on my SSD It says my C drive is SSD but when I install it I launch the game and it says it’s installed on the HDD. Can’t seem to figure it out
