Cameraman next to screen, reads :"FIFAworld cup.com" STORYLINE: Argentina defender Leandro Cufre faces a disciplinary panel and German players or officials could also be charged over the fracas that followed the host team's penalty shootout win in the World Cup quarterfinals. FIFA communications director Markus Siegler said on Saturday that the "legal procedure will be started as is normal in the case of a red card." At least one German player was injured and several players and staff were involved in a skirmish that followed Friday's shootout at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The match was level at 1-1 after extra time, and Germany won the shootout 4-2. Cufre, an unused substitute who plays for AS Roma, was given a red card by referee Lubos Michel after the match. Siegler said the disciplinary panel would review the video and and other material to check to see if other people would be sanctioned. The pushing and shoving reportedly followed a verbal exchange during the shootout. Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff, who was in the middle of the melee, said Per Mertesacker was struck in the leg by an Argentine reserve player. Argentina coach Jose Pekerman said it was a very emotional moment, and resigned from his post after the match. Siegler said Bierhoff was within his rights to be on the field after the match. "After great emotions and the kind of drama, if an official storms onto the field of play to hug the players...it's understandable he wanted to congratulate the players," Siegler said. He also commented on the stadium announcer's comments after half time, urging the crowd to show support for the German team.
