Hell yes. Flanagan is really good at King adaptations. It's such a shame that Doctor Sleep wasn't a bigger hit

[–][deleted] 123 points124 points  (36 children)

7.3/10 for a horror movie isn’t bad at all tbh, for IMDb anyways. Some of the good horror movies (even some of my favourite’s) hover around the 5-7/10 mark on that site, very rarely do they rate beyond 7.

I’m going to watch Doctor Sleep now thanks to y’all, if you have any more suggestions let me know. My partner and I usually find gems from peoples’ suggestions through here.

[–]PantslessDan 56 points57 points  (8 children)

be sure to get the directors cut

[–]T_that_is_all 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Yes. This. The theatrical cut isn't even close to this cut. Watched both. One was a bore that had some things happen that made no sense. Director's cut made much more sense and was enjoyable.

[–]The_River_Is_Still 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I didn’t know this. I liked the theatric cut. But now I’ll have to watch the DC.

[–]mon_dieu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I really enjoyed the theatrical cut.

IIRC I watched it on HBO Max a couple years back, and only after finishing it did I realize that the director's cut was available to stream there at the same time.

Guess it's time for a rewatch.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I will now that you mentioned it.

[–]someguyidunno 4 points5 points  (2 children)

whats the difference between the two?

[–]Welcoming-War 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was curious myself as I didn't know there was one.

This article does a good job summarizing.

[–]huskersax 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Comedies and horrors usually get like a 1-2 point handicap on IMDB as far as reckoning how good they are.

[–]_mad_adams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. What’s scary or funny is so incredibly subjective.

[–]horseren0ir 26 points27 points  (3 children)

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Oh yes, I have added that to my list already, very eager to watch it!

[–]grayhaze2000 8 points9 points  (1 child)

If you haven't already, watch Resolution first. It really lays the groundwork for The Endless, which is sort of a direct sequel.

[–]mikeyfreshh 23 points24 points  (5 children)

While we're on the subject, all of Flanagan's movies are worth watching. Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil are both pretty excellent

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After reading all the comments about Flanagan, there’s no doubting his work.

I’m thinking of starting a Flanagan binge sesh starting from his first film Makebelieve. Need to buy some popcorn 🍿

[–]Murderous_Waffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also his shows on netflix. Haunting series. Midnight club was decent. Midnight mass was awesome.

[–]thehelldoesthatmean 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I've watched most of Flannigan's movies and I love almost all of them. But I gotta say, I really hated Ouija. It was pure early 2000s-style pop horror cheese. It was nothing but jump scares of a little girl with a goofy CGI face. I laughed during most of the "scares." That one stood out to me from most of his other work as being almost an entirely different style of horror movie.

Midnight Mass and Dr. Sleep are absolutely fantastic though.

[–]mikeyfreshh 1 point2 points  (1 child)

His Ouija movie was definitely a studio horror movie and it hit all of the tropes you'd expect from one of those movies, but I thought it was the best execution of that kind of movie that I've ever seen

[–]BKWhitty 22 points23 points  (5 children)

If you haven't already, watch Flanagan's "Haunting of" series on Netflix. The Haunting of Hill House is so fucking good. I've heard his other shows are pretty good too but I haven't yet gotten to them myself.

[–]Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 23 points24 points  (4 children)

Bly Manor and Midnight Mass are great as well.

Midnight Club could have been another potentially great limited series, but they sort of shot themselves in the foot on that one by trying to make it a continuous series on Netflix. And thus, it's been cancelled.

[–]someguyidunno 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Midnight Mass was AMAZING!

[–]RemLezarCreated 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, my personal favorite Flanagan.

[–]MidnightCustard 10 points11 points  (1 child)

My personal hot take - Gerald's Game is better than Doctor Sleep. Trigger warning for SA though

[–]coffee_eyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gerald's Game is fucked up. Horror movies usually don't make me uneasy or queasy, but that movie had me uncomfortable the entire time and I loved it. The scene where she partially degloves herself to get out of the handcuffs still causes me a full-body cringe when I think about it. Really great psychological horror movie.

[–]KristenJimmyStewart 563 points564 points  (79 children)

Doctor Sleep was a near masterpiece, loved it to death.

[–]Hollandmarch76 59 points60 points  (4 children)

Rebecca Ferguson was awesome as Rose The Hat.

[–]UnifiedQuantumField 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Rebecca Ferguson is so hot right now.

Mugatu

[–]tvfeet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Rebecca Ferguson is so hot

FTFY

[–]dr_trousers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much driving. I feel like half of the movie was just driving. But then rebecca Ferguson shows up and all is better. So much better. I loved her as rose the hat.

[–]otso66 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Rose the Hat was one of my favorite Halloween costumes. I’m a teacher and we got to dress up for school.

[–]mikeyfreshh 261 points262 points  (8 children)

It's probably one of my 3-5 favorite horror movies of the last decade. I thought it would be pretty much impossible to make a Shining sequel that was faithful to both the novel and the film but he fucking nailed it

[–]KristenJimmyStewart 76 points77 points  (6 children)

Same! I love the mix of drama with fantasy. Hope it was the director's cut you saw

[–]charizard77 35 points36 points  (4 children)

I will have to go do that. I only ever saw it in theatres but I enjoyed it. And I love all of Flanagan's other work

[–]KristenJimmyStewart 20 points21 points  (3 children)

I heard the director's cut is much better, it is the only one I saw

[–]mikeyfreshh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I saw it in theaters but I did go back and watch the director's cut when it was on HBO Max a while ago

[–]HotToddy88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thought the book was a slog, but the movie was great. Went in with low expectations and was blown away!

[–]ShadedPenguin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Doctor Sleep was honestly a loveletter to King fans less so than a big audience grabber.

[–]AnImA0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same here. That movie slaps.

[–]MAXMEEKO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch it twice a year it's so good!

[–]mdavis360 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It is really so freaking good. The Directors Cut is a must.

[–]KristenJimmyStewart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only version I have seen!

[–]BKWhitty 9 points10 points  (3 children)

I want him to return to his "Haunting of" series one more time to do "The Haunting of the Overlook Hotel." "Hill House" was amazing and "Bly Manor," while less scary, was still very good. I'd love to see what he'd do with 8-10 episodes of The Shining.

[–]Mudders_Milk_Man 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Flanagan is currently trying to get a big Dark Tower (Stephen King) adaptation started. The current plan is a 5 season tv series and 2 films.

[–]literated 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Can't be worse than the first shot at a Dark Tower movie.

On the other hand it could start out really great and then get cancelled during Season 2 or something.

[–]J_Chambers 17 points18 points  (5 children)

I'm praying he gets to do The Dark Tower...

[–]Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Well, your prayers have been answered.

[–]J_Chambers 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I know he wants to do it, but from wanting to do it to actually getting it done…it’s a far stretch. I really hope we see his adaptation some day!

[–]fiendo13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rebecca Ferguson is intoxicating in that film. Also What a perfect casting she is for Juliet in Silo.

[–]crumble-bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched it for the first time recently, genuinely great film. The way it married book and movie was so interesting..

[–]fungobat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just bad timing. Released in November. 100% should have been a bigger hit.

[–]ShadowX433 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To this day I’m impressed with how well used the RWBY Easter eggs are in it. To the point where knowledge of a character in RWBY actually gives you insight into exactly how Abra sees herself and what she can do with her powers.

[–]so_yeah_I_guess_sure 395 points396 points  (41 children)

Surprised Flanagan has time given all his other commitments but will be there day one.

[–]riegspsych325r/Movies Veteran 362 points363 points  (38 children)

he’s just power leveling until he works his way up to Dark Tower. But yeah, seems like Flanagan and King adaptations go together like Denzel and Tony Scott. Or also Frank Darabont and King adaptations, now that I’m thinking about it

[–]Murderface__ 84 points85 points  (5 children)

Or scots and other scots.

[–]Theturtlemoves86 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Boy the Scots sure are a contentious people

[–]MrX16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You've made an enemy for life

[–]riegspsych325r/Movies Veteran 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Scotts and Tots?

[–]AdmiralTR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Making dreams come true.

[–]adeafwriter 21 points22 points  (5 children)

I wonder what it would be like if both Flanagan and Darabont teamed up for a Stephen King book? So far these two are the best at handling Stephen King stories.

[–]riegspsych325r/Movies Veteran 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A horror-prison-drama, with a black and white cut for home release!

[–]fallenarist0crat 27 points28 points  (15 children)

oooooh he wants to adapt the dark tower? i’d fucking love that.

[–]Absurd_Leaf 101 points102 points  (3 children)

Not only that, he was literally awarded the rights to it by King a few months ago. He's already written several scripts.

[–]iSOBigD 20 points21 points  (2 children)

No need, didn't they just make it a few years ago? /s

[–]phl_fc 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Trying to do it as a movie was the first mistake, it's just way too much material to fit into 2-3 hours. I have hope for a serial version of it since at least they can pace it properly if it doesn't get canceled.

I felt the opposite about The Stand. The book is long but that didn't have to be a series.

[–]TechnicalD-A-W-G 48 points49 points  (10 children)

I'm fairly certain he's currently attached to the IP, like officially, but he said the writing/adaptation process is very deliberate and slow cause he has a near religious devotion to the material & REALLY wants to get it right

[–]Duff-Zilla 21 points22 points  (9 children)

I think he’s also having trouble getting a studio behind it

[–]wpnw 10 points11 points  (8 children)

I thought he signed a deal with Amazon to produce it, among his other projects?

[–]NeoNoireWerewolf 21 points22 points  (6 children)

He signed a deal with Amazon after falling out with Netflix, but he’s clarified Amazon has not greenlit The Dark Tower. King gave Flanagan the rights, but if Amazon doesn’t want to do it, he’ll have to wait until his deal with Amazon is up and try to pitch it elsewhere.

[–]horseren0ir 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Is that the first look deal?

[–]Shane-Train 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Flanagans rights to The Dark Tower are specifically excluded from his Amazon deal. He is free to shop it where ever.

Source: this article

Flanagan and Macy, who carved the rights to The Dark Tower out of their Netflix and Amazon Studios overall deals

[–]SteadyChap 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Expanding on what you said; the reason Amazon haven’t greenlit it is because of the failure of the 2017(?) movie and a failed pilot produced in 2020 which, if memory serves me right, was an adaption of wizard and glass. There are some images of Jerome Flynn as Stephen deschain out there. It’s difficult to get a studio to spend another chunk of money producing something that’s failed twice before

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable, but that’s a real shame. The reason the 2017 movie flopped was because it was a terrible adaptation, not because the source material is bad. Hopefully he can get it right. The dark tower is fantastic, and deserves a quality adaptation. I’d probably prefer a series, but I’ll happily take a good movie.

[–]Parabola1313 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Oh, Rahul is definitely going to be The Gunslinger lol

[–]Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hollywood's Bad Boy returns

[–]t_moneyzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peak incoming

[–]paulteegoldman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or Tobe Hooper and King adaptations. Salem’s Lot and The Mangler are fantastic

[–]Hercusleaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Darabont is exceptionally good at adapting King as well.

Shit, I'd love to see Flanagan and Darabont team up on one. Would be awesome if they worked on the eventual Dark Tower series together.

[–]Parabola1313 138 points139 points  (1 child)

'Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamil to star in Stephen King adaptation

"Nice"

For director Mike Flanagan'.

"OH SHIT"

[–]Chained_Wanderlust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw this and my eyes bugged out. They are a perfect match for Flanagan's style.

[–]SerFezz 577 points578 points  (34 children)

Midnight Mass is basically one of my favorite shows so I'm ride or die with Flanagan

[–]showmeyourplantys 167 points168 points  (6 children)

Funny enough when I watched the show I thought it was a Stephen King adaptation. One of my favorites as well.

[–]Faithless195 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Once of the best reviews for that show was "It's the best adaptation of a book Stephen King never wrote."

[–]Eldorian91 50 points51 points  (1 child)

King does stand tall in this genre, for sure. Stranger Things also feels like a Stephen King adaptation.

[–]grayhaze2000 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Stranger Things is very much an homage to King, Spielberg, and everything 80s. It's not accidental.

[–]MagicMer4042 39 points40 points  (2 children)

It is essentially Salem’s lot is it not?

[–]showmeyourplantys 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Ah yes!! I just read that the show was heavily inspired by Salems lot and loosely inspired by Flanagan's childhood as an altar boy and his struggles with addiction.

[–]Mudders_Milk_Man 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's more hopeful than Salem's Lot.

[–]WaveHigh 44 points45 points  (0 children)

My mom is from a small town in Newfoundland, surrounded my ocean, and I've visited it quite a few times. Midnight Mass really struck the 'creepy' factor with me because of how much I could relate to the setting.

[–]Help_An_Irishman 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Midnight Mass is one of the best series I've ever seen. I couldn't get it out of my head for at least a couple weeks after first seeing it. I'd drive to work listening to YouTube analysis videos, not because I needed it analyzed, I was just dying to talk to someone about it, and hearing someone talking about it was the best I could do.

I'm so stoked that he'll be doing The Dark Tower, since it's very clear that it's been his dream forever, and he respects the source material.

[–]Bosht 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bro fuck yes. I think what got me the most is you see how fucked things are going to get from a miiiiile away and you're just in it. It just keeps you there, and then when the shit does finally go down it's like 10 times worse than you think. SO fuckin good.

[–]Hercusleaze 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's been his dream forever, and he's really fucking good at adapting King. I'm so stoked for what he does with it.

I can't fucking wait to see his version of the lobstrosities. And Blaine. (I'm only in Wizard and Glass so far, so please don't spoil anything from later on!)

[–]Eldorian91 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had to look that one up, that was a really good show. Didn't recall the title tho. Not a big cultural impact for such a good show.

[–]bluofmyoblivion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of those shows that you finish, then sit in the dark for awhile afterwards. What a beautiful piece of art.

[–]flipperkip97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine too. I love both of the "Haunting of..." shows too, but Midnight Mass is my favourite of his.

[–]Wonky_bumface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's something really creepy about a lot of island communities and he absolutely nailed it. Loved that show.

[–]pickrunner18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same.. Hill House was solid but Midnight Mass was on another level

[–]LightningDuck5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would go so far as to say it significantly affected my outlook on the world and life/death as a concept

[–]Aramiss134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's one of those projects that guarantees I'll keep an eye on the creator's work for years to come.

[–]IceLord86 414 points415 points  (36 children)

The one great thing the sequel trilogy brought was Mark Hamill getting the shot at high profile roles again, and I'm here to say I'm all for it.

[–]MidnightCustard 225 points226 points  (12 children)

Hamill is in Flanagan's upcoming "Fall of the House of Usher", and Flanagan is crazy about working repeatedly with actors he gets along well with. Hiddleston is new to the Flanagang, though

[–]Parabola1313 55 points56 points  (9 children)

Definitely gotta find something for Rebecca Ferguson.

[–]MidnightCustard 31 points32 points  (7 children)

He's said he definitely wants to work with her again, but in the meantime I'm enjoying Silo..

[–]HaphazardMelange 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just waiting for Rahul Kohli to be announced too. 🤞

[–]poneil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He got along with Kate Siegel so well that he's now full-on method directing, living his life with Siegel in the starring role.

[–]kickinwood 65 points66 points  (6 children)

Right there with you! For decades, Hamill was Luke and incredible voice acting, but I am all about putting him back on the screen to act again as long as he's up for it. I love seeing him doing other characters.

[–]MidnightCustard 46 points47 points  (5 children)

Flanagan has said that one of the reasons he loves working with Henry Thomas (8 projects and counting) is just throwing a wide variety of freaky stuff at him to challenge him and seeing him have fun with it. I would LOVE to see him do that with Hamill, not gonna lie.

[–]kickinwood 22 points23 points  (4 children)

YES! Any time I've seen Hamill outside of what I consider his "comfort zone" (because I don't know if he has one) he's been great.

[–]MidnightCustard 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Same. I compared him with Thomas because I think they're similar in some ways - both have been pigeon-holed for roles that made them super-famous very early in their careers, and both are terrific character actors when they get a chance to shine. The OG Star Wars trilogy and ET were both huge reasons I got into my career

[–]kickinwood 5 points6 points  (2 children)

That's awesome! What's your career? I'm half-hoping you say something like "insurance" and leave it at that with no explanation, lol.

[–]MidnightCustard 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Haha I'm a sound recordist, mostly for TV but some movies. Being honest, insurance would be steadier work :)

[–]Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 40 points41 points  (6 children)

Say what you will about The Last Jedi, but Mark Hamill fucking crushed that performance.

It's some of my favourite acting in a blockbuster in years.

[–]JamiesBond007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also I don't think Adam Driver would have been as big of a hit as he is now if Kylo didn't exist

[–]djm19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLJ really showed Mark still has it.

[–]real_horse_magic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mark Hamill not getting high profile roles? He was PHENOMENAL as the Cock Knocker

[–]For-All-the-Marbles 64 points65 points  (3 children)

It will be wonderful to see Tom in a non-Loki role again. He’s a wonderful actor.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (1 child)

The Night Manager is amazing

[–]admiral_aqua 7 points8 points  (0 children)

seriously. So freaking good. Hugh Laurie crushes his role as well

[–]samuraislider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like Crimson Peak. He's fantastic in it. High Rise is a weird movie, and tough to sell to some people, but his performance is amazing as well.

[–]OnwardTowardTheNorth 97 points98 points  (5 children)

Flanagan’s mission is to make all the King movies.

And I’m all for it.

[–]fungobat 27 points28 points  (4 children)

As much as I treasure The Dead Zone (1983), I would LOVE to see what he would do with that novel.

[–]maynardftw 4 points5 points  (1 child)

There's a billion King stories, we don't need to remake the ones that already have decent entries

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially when Mrs. Todd’s Shortcut still hasn’t been adapted.

[–]R3dbeardLFC 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I did not know this existed. Adding to my list now. Thanks!

[–]fungobat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy!

[–]Knightwingrebirth 105 points106 points  (9 children)

Pro- I actually read that one. Con- thought it was meh. Pro-movie might be better

[–]Maxtrix07 22 points23 points  (6 children)

My opinion, it was the worst short story in the book. Honestly, I barely understand what the core plot was, and maybe that's the problem. But it was just whatever. The scene of him dancing was cool though, that part sticks out.

[–]Knightwingrebirth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like the part when he goes into the attic.

[–]Dranj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It felt like it was meant to be an extension of Stationary Bike, with the personification of Chuck's internal processes. It's been a while since I've read it, but I remember liking the way the reveal of why the world is ending and Chuck's face is plastered everywhere hit me. More of a sad story than a scary story, though.

[–]msw1984 9 points10 points  (3 children)

So this will be the second film adaptation from the four short stories in If It Bleeds.

The adaptation of Mr. Harrigan's Phone was decent enough (Donald Sutherland did a great job as Mr. Harrigan).

[–]Maxtrix07 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I enjoyed Mr. Harrigan phone. It felt very... formulaic when watching. But I enjoyed it.

If It Bleeds, the short story itself, was incredible. Obviously it's insanely better when you know the character whose shown up in multiple different books of his. And I had no clue she would be in that story, it really amazed me. I absolutely cannot wait for her first stand alone book coming out later this year.

[–]horseren0ir 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Holly Gibney?

[–]mrfrohman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–]StannisLivesOn 32 points33 points  (1 child)

Formerly Life of Sneed

[–]el_t0p0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Check out the city slicker with his fancy German car.

[–]MisterFingerstyle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Loved the busking scene in that story. I’ve played lots of gigs like that and yes, sometimes things like that really do happen. King captured it perfectly!

[–]Regula96 11 points12 points  (6 children)

Will give anything Flanagan makes a try.

As for newer King stuff I’d also really like to see adaptations of Fairy Tale and Billy Summers.

[–]AlanMorlock 6 points7 points  (2 children)

The lack of a Revivival adaptation is wild to me. David Lowery has expressed interest. Him or Flanagan would do well.

[–]MidnightCustard 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Billy Summers was announced around a month ago, DiCaprio to star

[–]doyouevenoperatebrah 16 points17 points  (2 children)

I just finished It Bleeds a few days ago. Life of Chuck is absolutely incredible; it starts with such a fantastic sense of foreboding and dread and becomes bittersweet and beautiful.

[–]felonious_pudding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The scene on the street.

Chef's kiss

[–]codeoverdose1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On a whim I rented Absentia from Netflix way back in 2012. Afterwards I thought, "I need to see whatever else this Mike Flanagan guy makes".

11 years later I'm still agreeing with that sentiment.

[–]TheElStick 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I had the chance to meet Mike Flanagan at an event in Estes Park and he’s genuinely one of the nicest and most passionate people in the business. Plus he’s legitimately the only person I really trust to take the reigns on a King project, so give it all to him.

[–]all_hail_cthulhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darabont has done excellently as well.

[–]Help_An_Irishman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Random sidebar, since I'm in love with the idea of Flanagan adapting The Dark Tower:

Years ago I went to screening of The Mist here in LA, and Frank Darabont and Thomas Jane were there to do a Q and A after the movie.

In my opinion, no one has done better with adapting King than Darabont, perhaps because he chose to adapt novellas, so not only did he not have to cut things out of the source material, but he had room to add on to them (see the ending of The Mist, which King himself said he wished he'd written himself).

So I got a turn at asking Darabont a question. I mentioned that in the opening shot, we see David Drayton painting a poster for The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower I). I knew that he'd been approached years earlier to adapt it, so I asked what happened and why he decided not to do it. He said that King approached him first and that he was a big fan of the saga, but he didn't want to spend ten years of his life adapting it, only to fuck it up.

Fair answer, and I appreciate that he treated it with reverence, but knowing that this has basically been Mike Flanagan's dream project forever, I have high hopes that he's going to impress.

P.S. Midnight Mass is top ten material.

[–]Deschain_1919 34 points35 points  (7 children)

Okay cool but what's up with the dark tower Flanagan

[–]Gnorris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just can’t get excited for a Dark Tower project at this stage. That story just can’t have the same impact on screen if delivered faithfully to the books, which i fear will be the demand from its current fan base. It needs a to be taken apart and reassembled as something very different for screen if it wants a chance at success.

[–]strangejosh 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I’m still upset that we didn’t see his adaptation of Revival. I hope we get to see it made into a movie or mini series at some point.

[–]Kerrypug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished reading that novel in the middle of the night, and the ending was so depressing I had to go and sit in a brightly lit room for a while.

[–]SerKurtWagner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love seeing Hamill becoming a staple member of the Flanagan crew.

[–]Sleepy_Azathoth 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You had me at Mike Flanagan.

I bet there's lot of chicanery going on

[–]bluesblue1 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Now bring in Rahul Kohli

Flanagan is the first and only director who I feel has really understood King's fantasy influences and how to portray them on screen in a visually exciting and dramatically compelling way. Dr. Sleep ruled.

If Flanagan had done "IT", it would have been a masterpiece.

Frank Darabont:

"Am I a joke to you?"

Stephen King and Mike Flanagan? I'm interested.

[–]newbrevity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loki and Jokey

[–]rugbysecondrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am glad that Mark Hamill is getting more opportunities.

[–]thebiggesthater420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything by Mike Flanagan is pretty much a must-watch for me.

[–]whatproblems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

why do they look so similar… like mark is an old tom

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can go ahead and sign me up for all of this. Flanagan came out of nowhere to kinda become my jam. Dr. Sleep, Gerald's Game, Haunting of Hill House, and Midnight Mass are all spectacular outings. Not to say that I love everything he's done. But he's 2 for 2 on Stephen King adaptions and you should get a Nobel Prize for that.

Never heard of that story but every other piece of information here makes me happy as hell.

[–]thxxx1337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I said yes! Like fives times when I read the title

[–]FreedomPullo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t surprised when Flanagan announced he was working on this. This is very much in his wheelhouse, Hill House and Midnight Mass both ask questions that The Life of Chuck answers… dear god someone get him the rights to Revival

[–]Coldoldblackcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark Hamill is a treasure

[–]crumble-bee 1 point2 points  (2 children)

“The only person we let do Stephen King adaptations now”

[–]Industrialpainter89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yes. Where do I sign?

[–]OfficefanJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought Mark Hamil would be in a Stephen King movie.

[–]Rosebunse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a fun movie.

[–]t_moneyzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All four of those names are excellent

[–]WhatIsThisSevenNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an odd pairing, and I'm really looking forward to it.

[–]Redditer51 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mark Hamill's had something of a resurgence in live action. I like that.

[–]VirtualPoolBoy 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Is Life of Chuck a novel?

[–]The_blinding_eyes 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's a short story. Part of If It Bleeds.

[–]saltleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s going to make me so sad.

[–]peter095837 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks interesting. Flanagan adaptation's on King's work has been pretty impressive so I wonder what he is able to do with this one.

[–]DerekTheMemeBoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I contain multitudes"

Interested to see how this looks as a feature, and if I trust anyone to do King well, it's currently Flanagan.

[–]harryvonawebats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wonder what part Rahul Kohli will be playing? 😂 (he’s always in Mike’s stuff)
