Saint Brendan of Clonfert or Bréanainn of Clonfert (c. 484 – c. 577) (Irish: Naomh Breandán; Icelandic: Brandanus) called "the Navigator", "the Voyager", or "the Bold" is one of the early Irish monastic saints. He is chiefly renowned for his legendary quest to the "Isle of the Blessed," also called St Brendan's Island. The Voyage of St Brendan could be called an immram (Irish navigational story). He was one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland.

Saint Brendan's feast day is celebrated on 16 May by Catholics, Anglicans, and Eastern Orthodox Christians.

In 484 Saint Brendan was born in Ciarraighe Luachra near the port of Tralee, in County Kerry, in the province of Munster, in the south-west of Ireland. He was baptised at Tubrid, near Ardfert, by Saint Erc. For five years he was educated under Saint Ita, "the Brigid of Munster", and he completed his studies under Saint Erc, who ordained him priest in 512. Between the years 512 and 530 St Brendan built monastic cells at Ardfert, and, at the foot of Mount Brandon, Shanakeel— Seana Cill, usually translated as "the old church"— also called Baalynevinoorach.

Brendan Peter Schaub (born March 18, 1983) is an American professional mixed martial artist and former professional football player for the AFL's Utah Blaze and as a member of the Buffalo Bills practice squad. He was a finalist and the runner-up of Spike TV's The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights.

Schaub was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado. He was an all-state performer in football and lacrosse at Overland High School after high school he attended Division III Whittier College where he was a member of both the football and lacrosse teams. Prior to his junior year he transferred to the University of Colorado, where he redshirted his first season in Boulder, first playing tight end before moving to fullback. He went on to appear in 26 games during his career at Colorado with no starts. After college, Schaub played professional football in the Arena Football League with the Utah Blaze and also spent time on the practice squad for the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

After retiring from football, Schaub returned to Colorado where he began training in mixed martial arts, a sport he had participated in often throughout his life (before he started his NFL career), typically as a way to stay in shape. He found UFC middleweight contender Nate Marquardt's gym, High Altitude Martial Arts located in Denver. It was there and also at the Grudge Training Center, where Schaub splits his time that he met UFC Heavyweight contender Shane Carwin also a Grudge Fight Team member. The two became friends as well as training partners. Before long, Schaub became a Golden Gloves boxing champ and was later awarded his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Despite his ability as a stand-up striker, he possesses a glass jaw.
