Project Group MAUD RETURNS HOME surveyed the old sunken Polarship MAUD, of world famous Polar Explorer Roald Amundsen during August of 2011.
Maud was used in an attempt to reach the north Pole by drifting fixed in the icecap over several years.
Maud has rested on the seabed in shallow water in Cambridge Bay, Nanavut, North Canada for the last 80 years.
The Project Group concludes that MAUD can be saved and our ambition is to realize a salvage operation during the short summer of 2012.

The information part is not yet ready, but so far you will know that the ship D/S Dronning Maud (in English it would be S/S Queen Maud) was a ship in the coastal voyage from 1925 to 1940.
In 1940 the ship was bombed by the Germans outside Foldvik, resulting in a heavy fire and the ship was sunk.
18 persons was killed and 31 injured.

After burning for 2 days, the coastliner sunk at the depth at 36m at Foldvik in Gratangen, Norway. Several people killed during the attack on the ship.
The wreck today are a very populare divesite during wintertime, since visibility can be up to 50m.

The Maud, named for Queen Maud of Norway, was a ship built for Roald Amundsen for his second expedition to the Arctic. Designed for his intended voyage through the Northeast Passage, the vessel was specially built at a shipyard in Asker, Norway on the Oslofjord.
The Maud was launched in June 1916 and christened by Roald Amundsen by crushing a chunk of ice against her bow:
She lived up to her christening, for she lies still in the ice. Whereas other vessels used in Amundsen's polar explorations,Gjøa and Fram, have been preserved at the maritime museum at Bygdøy, Maud had a more rugged fate.
After sailing through the Northeast Passage, which did not go as planned and took six years between 1918 and 1924, she ended up in Nome, Alaska and in August 1925 was sold on behalf of Amundsen's creditors in Seattle, Washington.
The buyer was the Hudson's Bay Company which renamed her Baymaud. She was to be used as a supply vessel for Company outposts in Canada's western Arctic. However, in the winter of 1926 she was frozen in the ice at Cambridge Bay, where she sank in 1930.

Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt (
/ˈroʊzəvɛlt/ ROH-zə-velt; October 27, 1858 – January 6, 1919) was the 26th President of the United States of America (1901–1909). He is noted for his exuberant personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Progressive Movement, as well as his "cowboy" persona and robust masculinity. He was a leader of the Republican Party and founder of the short-lived Progressive ("Bull Moose") Party of 1912. Before becoming President, he held offices at the city, state, and federal levels. Roosevelt's achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much a part of his fame as any office he held as a politician. Roosevelt was 42 years old when sworn in as President of the United States in 1901, making him the youngest president ever; he beat out the youngest elected president, John F. Kennedy, by only one year. Roosevelt was also one of only three sitting presidents to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the other two being Woodrow Wilson and Barack Obama.

While returning from Africa in 1910, Theodore Roosevelt visited many European countries, including Denmark, May 2-3, and Norway, May 4-6. Roosevelt, King Haakon, Edith Roosevelt, Queen Maud, Ethel Roosevelt, Kermit Roosevelt, and others enter carriages outside the railroad station in Oslo, Norway. Carriages arrive at the wharf in Helsingør, Denmark. Roosevelt and Kermit arrive by carriage outside the National Theater in Oslo where he is to deliver his acceptance speech for the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize. They are greeted by King Haakon and others. Ethel, probably Edith, and Queen Maud arrive at the theater. Crowds gather outside King Frederick University, Oslo. Roosevelt, Crown Prince Christian, later King Christian X, Kermit, Edith, and Ethel enter carriages in Copenhagen, Denmark. The carriage with Roosevelt and Prince Christian arrives at Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen. Roosevelt, a woman who may be Katharine M. Egan, and Dr. Maurice Francis Egan, American minister to Denmark (barely visible on far left), arrive by auto and are greeted by unidentified men. There is a pan of the crowds at Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark. Roosevelt and entourage arrive, as Danish soldiers march by, visit, and bid hosts goodbye at Kronborg Castle, Denmark. Roosevelt and the Egans board the steamer Queen Maud. The ship sails past Kronborg Castle, a Danish naval ship, and returns to Copenhagen. Roosevelt leaves the ship and enters a carriage.

maud survey 2011 - On the famous polar ship of Roald Amundsen
Project Group MAUD RETURNS HOME surveyed the old sunken Polarship MAUD, of world famous Polar Explorer Roald Amundsen during August of 2011. Maud was used in an attempt to reach the north Pole by drifting fixed in the icecap over several years. Maud has rested on the seabed in shallow water in Cambridge Bay, Nanavut, North Canada for the last 80 years. The Project Group concludes that MAUD can be saved and our ambition is to realize a salvage operation during the short summer of 2012. Here are all three segments of a special series about the schooner "Victory Chimes" originally broadcast on the 5pm news by WBAL-TV 11 (Baltimore, MD) in 1985. The three-masted schooner "Edwin and Maud" was built in Bethel, Delaware in 1900. For nearly half a century, she hauled lumber and other cargo up and down the eastern seaboard. In the mid-1940s, my grandfather, William Seaford Stevens, Sr., was the one of the last captains of "Edwin and Maud" while it was still in use as a cargo vessel. My great-grandfather, Ira Stevens, acted as captain for a time after it was purchased by an investor in 1946 and converted into a "dude cruiser" operated by Chesapeake Bay Vacation Cruises. Carriages arrive at the wharf in Helsingør, Denmark. Roosevelt and Kermit arrive by carriage outside the National Theater in Oslo where he is to deliver his acceptance speech for the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize. They are greeted by King Haakon and others. Ethel, probably Edith, and Queen Maud arrive at the theater. Crowds gather outside King Frederick University, Oslo.
Roosevelt, Crown Prince Christian, later King Christian X, Kermit, Edith, and Ethel enter carriages in Copenhagen, Denmark. The carriage with Roosevelt and Prince Christian arrives at Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen. Roosevelt, a woman who may be Katharine M. Egan, and Dr. Maurice Francis Egan, American minister to Denmark (barely visible on far left), arrive by auto and are greeted by unidentified men. Here are all three segments of a special series about the schooner "Victory Chimes" originally broadcast on the 5pm news by WBAL-TV 11 (Baltimore, MD) in 1985.
The three-masted schooner "Edwin and Maud" was built in Bethel, Delaware in 1900. For nearly half a century, she hauled lumber and other cargo up and down the eastern seaboard. In the mid-1940s, my grandfather, William Seaford Stevens, Sr., was the one of the last captains of "Edwin and Maud" while it was still in use as a cargo vessel. My great-grandfather, Ira Stevens, acted as captain for a time after it was purchased by an investor in 1946 and converted into a "dude cruiser" operated by Chesapeake Bay Vacation Cruises.
In the 1950s, "Edwin and Maud" was bought by yet another investor and moved to Maine, at which point she was re-christened "Victory Chimes." Aside from a brief stint in Duluth, Minnesota in the late 1980s, the "Victory Chimes" has remained in Maine ever since.
In 1997, "Victory Chimes" was named a National Historic Landmark, and in 2000 she returned to the Chesapeake Bay for a centenary celebration. At age 85, William Stevens was able, on more than one occasion, to revisit the "Victory Chimes" while it wintered at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland.
In 2003, "Victory Chimes" was represented on the Maine quarter, part of the U.S. Mint's state quarter program that began in 1999.
(If you're a native of Maryland, this clip is also interesting as it shows a younger Dave Durian and Rod Daniels -- both of whom are still media personalities in the Baltimore area.)

Made in Northland, New Zealand, 2014, this mid-length film (37min) follows the journey of young Maud McGarry on her quest from Scotland to New Zealand to find her long lost Uncle Harry, The Sailor who jumped ship to marry his Maori Sweetheart. 'Mana Moana' (Power of the Sea) is an ultra low budget ($900), non dialogue production including original music. The making of 'Mana Moana' was a rewarding challenge to convey a Universal story using only visuals and soundtrack with a cast drawn entirely from locals of Ipipri, Bay of Islands, Northland. My thoughts on the episode:
EP 20 This is a pretty good episode that I just wish was a little better. I love how we see Twilight Sparkle and Spike's Hearths Warming traditions. I was very excited when Applejack and Pinkie Pie said that their families were going to celebrate together because I have been waiting for an episode showing Pinkie Pie's family. I love how Pinkie Pie and Applejack are rubbing off on each other. I love Maud so much and apparently she's an ace detective. Pinkie Pie's parents are totally Amish, Limestones kind of bitchy and Marble is just adorable. I love that they have rock soup for dinner and it's crazy that the Pie family besides Maud can eat rocks. I love how awesome the Pie family is at rock carving. I love the slight shipping between Big Mac and Marble. I love how everyone seems to be getting along and enjoying themselves except Applejack who really loves tradition. I love how Applejack completely misinterprets Pinkie Pie's family's traditions as them not having a real Hearths Warming. I feel really bad for Pinkie Pie almost being forced to choose between her family and friends. I love how unlikely it was that Applejack planted the flag on a fault line. Also Applejack invoked Murphy's law by saying everything would be fine and then of course the worst happened. It was really sad seeing them send away the apple family and seeing Applejack and Pinkie Pie crying. Although it was really great to see a really emotional scene. I love how Granny Smith tells the story of Holder's Boulder because she knew that story from becoming friends with Igneous and Cloudy. I love how Applejack ultimately decides to go back and help because of Pinkie Pie's gift. That Boulder must be very heavy if the entire Pie family needs help to move it. I love the lesson we get from Applejack's speech that all traditions are important. I love how they all make up at the end especially with even more Marble x Big Mac shipping. I love how at the end of the episode we get to experience Maud's rock based carols. The one thing that would have made this episode better would be Pinkie Pie's family being more nuanced characters. I really hope we get to see them again especially Maud and Marble Pie.
