Mount Brandon or Brandon Mountain 953 m (3123 ft) mountain on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. It is the highest peak of the unnamed central mountain range of the Dingle Peninsula and the ninth highest peak on the island. It is also the highest Irish peak outside the Macgillycuddy's Reeks.The Faha ridge walk proceeds from an East to West direction toward Mt Brandon. Mount Brandon

It is the highest peak of the unnamed central mountain range of the Dingle Peninsula and the ninth highest peak on the island. It is also the highest Irish peak outside the Macgillycuddy's Reeks. It is classed as a Furth by the Scottish Mountaineering Club. Mount Brandon is named after Saint Brendan and is the end of a Christian pilgrimage trail known as Cosán na Naomh. The small village of Brandon lies at the foot of the mountain, on the north side.
Name
The mountain takes its name from Saint Brendan or Bréanainn, who is said to have been born in what is now County Kerry. Brendan is chiefly known for his legendary voyage to the "Isle of the Blessed", also called Saint Brendan's Island. The tale of Brendan's voyage may be a Christianization of the earlier Voyage of Bran.
A medieval work about Brendan's life calls the mountain Sliabh nDaidche (in the Irish version Beatha Bhréanainn) or Mons Aitche (in the Latin version Vita Brendani), and Alan Mac an Bhaird has translated this as "mountain of Faithche". However, some believe the name refers to Slieve Aughty rather than Mount Brandon.

Dingle Peninsula
The Dingle Peninsula (Irish: Corca Dhuibhne – anglicised as Corkaguiny, the name of the corresponding barony) is the northernmost of the major peninsulas in County Kerry. It ends beyond the town of Dingle at Dunmore Head, the westernmost point of Ireland and arguably Europe.
Name
The Dingle Peninsula is named after the town of Dingle. The peninsula is also commonly called Corca Dhuibhne (Corcu Duibne) even when those referring to it are speaking in English. Corca Dhuibhne, which means "seed or tribe of Duibhne" (an Irish personal name), takes its name from the túath (people, nation) of Corco Dhuibhne who occupied the peninsula in the Middle Ages and who also held a number of territories in the south and east of County Kerry.
Geography
The peninsula exists because of the band of sandstone rock that forms the Slieve Mish mountain range at the neck of the peninsula, in the east, and the unnamed central mountain range further to the west. Ireland's highest mountain outside Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Mount Brandon at 951 m, forms part of a beautiful high ridge with stunning views over the peninsula and North Kerry.

County Kerry
County Kerry (Irish: Contae Chiarraí) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the South-West Region and is also part of the province of Munster. It is named after the Ciarraige who lived in part of the present county. Kerry County Council is the local authority for the county and Tralee serves as the county town. The population of the county was 145,502 in 2011, according to the 2011 census.
Geography and political subdivisions
Kerry is the 5th largest of the 32 counties of Ireland by area and the 13th largest by population. Uniquely, it is bordered by only two other counties: County Limerick to the east and County Cork to the south-east. The county town is Tralee. The diocesan see is Killarney, which is one of Ireland's most famous tourist destinations. The Lakes of Killarney, an area of outstanding natural beauty are located in Killarney National Park. The tip of the Dingle Peninsula is the most westerly point of Ireland.
Baronies
There are nine historic baronies in the county. While baronies continue to be officially defined units, they are no longer used for many administrative purposes. Their official status is illustrated by Placenames Orders made since 2003, where official Irish names of baronies are listed under "Administrative units".

The Brandon Massif can lay claim to some of the most picturesque views of seascapes and glacial mountainscapes in Ireland, offering among the very best hillwalking experiences this island has to offer. We undertook a three day trek with two nights wild camping over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend in April 2015, in glorious weather conditions. Due to tourism the pubs of Dingle Town are kept well busy, however, compared with other parts of Ireland tourism here is a far more subdued affair. In Dingle Town in 1984 a dolphin appeared just off the coast and it accompanied the fishing boats into the harbour and indeed it still does and the Dingle Dolphin is now a well known attraction on this part of the coast. The Dunbeg Fort originated in the Bronze Age. Archaeology has shown that it dates back to the eighth century B.C. The magnificent location of the fortress hundreds of metres above the thundering sea and mighty cliffs make the visit to Dunbeg Fort a dramatic adventure. Close to Fahan is a large group of Beehive Huts, ancient circular buildings that date back to the Last Ice Age. According to archaeologists further buildings were erected in early Christian times. Its mysterious prehistoric and early Christian monuments as well as the beauty of its landscape have given the Dingle Peninsula the magic that has rightly made The Emerald Isle famous throughout the world!

A stunning mountain walk through a glacial landscape of corries and paternoster lakes to the high point of Mount Brandon. A cool Easter had brought frequent hail showers that gave a winter feel to the summit and clear views over Dingle in Kerry.

MOUNT BRANDON
Mount Brandon or Brandon Mountain 953 m (3123 ft) mountain on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. It is the highest peak of the unnamed central mountain range of the Dingle Peninsula and the ninth highest peak on the island. It is also the highest Irish peak outside the Macgillycuddy's Reeks.The Faha ridge walk proceeds from an East to West direction toward Mt Brandon. Faha Ridge is on the above and to the North of the regular route up Brandon from Cloghane, known as the Pilgrim's Path.The route starts out as a gentle incline up a grassy slope, but once the slope levels out, the ridge narrows into, in places, a knife-edge arête with stimulating views on either side, down to the Pilgrims path and Locha Chom an Chnoic to the South, and Coimín na gCnámh to the North.I CLIMBED THIS...

On one of the coldest days of the year in ireland Three Mad [but only half mad] men head for the summit of mount Brandon. A bit about Brandon: Mount Brandon or Brandon Mountain (Irish: Cnoc Bréanainn, meaning Brendan's hill is a 952 m (3123 ft) mountain on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. It is the highest peak of the unnamed central mountain range of the Dingle Peninsula. It is the highest Irish peak outside the Macgillycuddy's Reeks. It is classed as a Furth by the Scottish Mountaineering Club. Mount Brandon is named after Saint Brendan and is the end of a Christian pilgrimage trail known as Cosán na Naomh. The small village of Brandon lies at the foot of the mountain, on the north side.
