A zone established at certain military aerodromes, where the airspace extends upward to 3000 ft above the airfield with a radius of 5 NM centered on the longest runway. The zone contains one or more “stub” projections, which are 4 NM wide, extending 5 NM along the final approach paths between 1000 and 3000 ft AGL. Although technically this is a nonregulated airspace, a pilot is strongly advised to seek permission to penetrate a MATZ. Also, the aerodrome traffic zone at the center of this airspace must be observed. Two or more MATZs may be amalgamated to produce a combined military aerodrome traffic zone (CMATZ) with a single controlling authority.
