Plot: It is only a gun - not a common gun but its mystery is not the unusual manufacture but the fact that it is a dead man's gun. Three stories follow the fate of successive holders of this haunted weapon. The Great McDonacle is a second-rate trick shot artist; in his hands the gun cannot miss even the most difficult shots, but doesn't make him quite fast enough. Jack Fleetwood steals the gun from its sleeping owner; he can salt a mine with it and cheat an honest farmer by convincing him to buy this worthless mine, but the con man can be conned. Cole finds the gun on a skeleton; a fast draw becomes a reality, but tragedy comes to his brother. At the end, the gun is returned to the skeleton, waiting for its next victim.

Plot: Marshal Flagg, an aging lawman about to be retired, hears that his old nemesis, the outlaw McKaye, is back in the area and planning a robbery. Riding out to hunt down McKaye, Flagg is captured by McKaye's gang and finds out that McKaye is no longer the leader of the gang, but is considered just an aging relic by the new leader, a youngster named Waco. Waco orders Mackaye to shoot Flagg, and when Mackaye refuses Waco abandons both of them. Flagg then takes Mackaye back to town only to find out that he has been "retired", and when he sees how clueless and incompetent the new marshal and the city fathers are, he persuades Mackaye that it is up to the two of them to stop Waco and his gang from ravaging the town.

Plot: Steve Bolton, a Department of the Interior agent, has given young "Bronc" Masters a lease to 50,000 acres of range land. Several months later "Bronc" discovers a strange notice on the land, warning off trespassers. He thinks that Steve has leased the same land twice, grabs a gun and heads for town, although his level-headed girl friend, Ann Bradford, attempts to stop him. Steve pacifies him, and they both ride out to the range and discover a gang of men, led by "Spud" Henry, rounding up the wild horses. Henry produces a paper, similar to the one Steve gave "Bronc" and signed by the Secretary of the Interior, and Steve, knowing the paper is a forgery, slaps an injunction on the land, forbidding any horses to be rounded up until the matter is cleared. Henry has had a cleaver counterfeiter forge the signature and knows he will be found out, so he orders his men to rustle the horses and run them to the railroad siding for shipment. But the Durango Kid takes a hand.
