Flagg (Old Norse A sod of peat) is a small Peak District village, set in the Derbyshire Dales, halfway between the small market town of Bakewell and the spa town of Buxton, in the area officially known as "The White Peak". 1000 feet above sea level, Flagg is recorded in the Domesday Book as "Flagun", and is believed to have originally been a Viking settlement engaged primarily in lead mining, the evidence of which can still be seen today with many spoil heaps and disused mine shafts in the area.
In the mid-19th century, well dressings were held during "Wakes Week", which was always begun on the first Sunday after June 24. There were two wells, one opposite to Ivy House Farm, and the other opposite to Edge Close Farm.
These days, Flagg is predominantly a farming village, concentrating on all aspects of agriculture, but is actually best known throughout the United Kingdom for the point-to-point races held annually on Easter Tuesday by the High Peak Hunt. On one occasion, King Edward VIII, the then Prince of Wales, actually rode at the races.
Josh Flagg (born August 20, 1985) is an American real estate agent and media personality who co-stars alongside Josh Altman and Madison Hildebrand on the show Million Dollar Listing on the Bravo! television network. Appearing on television for the first time in 2008, Flagg came back to do the third season of the show in 2009. In 2010, Bravo announced a fourth season of the show, which premiered on February 3, 2011.
The show, now in its fourth season, follows three young real estate agents in Los Angeles as they sell high-end homes.
Flagg is the grandson of philanthropist and Jewish leader Herman Platt and great grandson of Benjamin Platt, founder of the nationwide Platt Music Corporation chain of stores. His great-grandparents on his mother's side were residents of California since the late 1800s and are known for their contributions to Jewry. On his father's side, Flagg is the grandson of former fashion industry executive and designer, Edith Flagg from Romania, and her husband and Los Angeles Jewish leader Eric Flagg.
Meredith Louise Vieira (born December 30, 1953) is an American journalist, television personality, and game show host. She is best known for her roles as the original moderator of the ABC talk program The View and co-host of the long-running NBC News morning news program, Today. She currently contributes to Dateline NBC and Rock Center with Brian Williams, and hosts the syndicated version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, having replaced Regis Philbin in 2002. She also presented Intimate Portrait, a series on Lifetime.
Meredith Vieira was born in East Providence, Rhode Island, to Mary Louisa Elsie Rosa Silveira Vieira (née Costa) (October 28, 1904 – November 5, 2004) and Dr. Edwin Vieira (May 15, 1904 – February 1987), both first-generation Portuguese Americans. She is the youngest of four children, with three older brothers. All four of Vieira’s grandparents came from the Azores — three from Faial Island, one of the nine islands in the archipelago. They all left for a better life in New England in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, settling around Providence, Rhode Island. Vieira was reared in the Catholic faith, but has stated in recent interviews that she has "spirituality, not a religion."
