David Mervyn Johns (18 February 1899 – 6 September 1992) was a distinctive Welsh film and television character actor who became a star of British films during World War II. Continuing into the postwar era, he was a notable mainstay of Ealing Studios.
Mervyn Johns started his career in the theatre in the 1920s, and then made his first film in 1935. Among his dozens of film roles were the church Warden in Went the Day Well? (1942), the fearful architect Walter Craig in the mystery film Dead of Night (1945) and Bob Cratchit in Scrooge (1951) with Alastair Sim. Johns also made many television appearances, in series such as The Avengers, Danger Man and Dixon of Dock Green. He was well-known for his "mostly mild-mannered, lugubrious, amusing, sometimes moving 'little men'" in over 100 film and television series.
Johns was twice married. His first wife was the concert pianist Alys Steele. They had one daughter, the actress Glynis Johns, born in South Africa, with whom he appeared in The Halfway House (1944) and The Sundowners (1960). After Alys's death in 1971 he married the actress Diana Churchill in 1976.
Next of kin is a person's closest living blood relative or relatives.

The Next of Kin, also known as Next of Kin, is a 1942 World War II propaganda film produced by Ealing Studios.
The film was originally commissioned by the British War Office as a training film to promote the government propaganda message that "Careless talk costs lives". After being taken on by Ealing Studios, the project was expanded and given a successful commercial release.
After World War II and up until at least the mid 1960s, services in British Commonwealth countries continued to use The Next of Kin as part of security training.
The British army is preparing an attack on a German-held French port. German intelligence use agents in England to discover the intended target by piecing together information from different sources, including conversations overheard in pubs, railway stations, shops and other public places.
Originally, the commando raid depicted was intended to be a complete failure. However, the War Office were uncomfortable about showing such a defeat. In the final version, the raid is successful, albeit with heavy losses. Winston Churchill reportedly wanted the film banned as a threat to morale, but was eventually persuaded of the importance of its message.
The Next: Fame Is at Your Doorstep is an American hour-long reality series on The CW television network that consists of a music competition to find new talent, the winner of the competition will receive a recording contract with Atlantic Records. The show is produced by CBS's Raquel Productions in association with 25/7 Productions, LLC and Flavor Unit Entertainment, Inc, and it's produced by Dave Broome ("The Biggest Loser"), Shakim Compere, and American singer and actress, Queen Latifah. The series premiered on August 16, 2012.
Unlike other talent shows, this one does not make auditions, the participants are mere local music artists with devoted fans, huge social media presence on Facebook and Twitter and even, some of them, worked before as opening acts for big names in the music. This competition intends, in every way to give them the big step to move out as headlining acts.
The original mentors panel consists of Gloria Estefan, Joe Jonas, John Rich, and Nelly, with Allison Hagendorf as the host of the show. They will spend 72 hours with musicians in six cities and help them prepare for the competition. The series will have six episodes, one for each city, followed by three live episodes.

A classic high-tension thriller directed by Montgomery Tully, this rarely seen gem features an exceptional transatlantic cast including Zachary Scott (on magnificently sinister form as a brutal master-criminal), Mervyn Johns, noir heroine Peggie Castle, fan favourite Lee Patterson and British screen spiv Sydney Tafler. Dead of Night is a 1945 British anthology horror film (a gothic or horror anthology) made by Ealing Studios; the individual stories were directed by Alberto Cavalcanti, Charles Crichton, Basil Dearden and Robert Hamer. The film stars Mervyn Johns, Googie Withers, Sally Ann Howes and Michael Redgrave. The film is probably best-remembered for the ventriloquist's dummy episode with Redgrave. Dead of Night stands out from British film of the 1940s, when few horror films were being produced in the country (horror films had been banned from production in Britain during the war), and it had an influence on subsequent British films in the genre. Both of the segments by John Baines were recycled for later films, and the possessed ventriloquist dummy episode was adapted as the audition episode of th...

Ebenezer Scrooge (Alastair Sim) is so mean-spirited that he even begrudges having to give his clerk, Bob Cratchit (Mervyn Johns), the day off for Christmas. Alone at home on Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his late partner, Jacob Marley (Michael Hordern), who warns him that he will be visited by three spirits in an attempt to make him change his hard-hearted ways.
Mervyn Johns introduces events of 1942 as if in flashback, after the war with Hitler defeated, which is quite a bold move for a film itself made only in 1942, in this classic Ealing drama

Squatters from the university occupied what they thought was an empty holiday home and changed the locks to prevent the owner's re-entry. It was in fact the permanent home of Edward Lumsden, an elderly man. When he returned home to find himself locked-out he called his daughter Vera Chadwick who came to the house to resolve the matter. She took a shotgun along with her. This gun was ultimately fired and one of the squatters - John Worsley - was shot and permanently blinded in one eye. The prosecution assert that Mrs. Chadwick deliberately wounded him but she and her defence team maintain that the shooting was an accident. Quite an emotional episode, this one. Wonderful acting from Ann Mitchell, who plays Vera. Thorley Walters and Ronald Hines star as the prosecuting and defence counsels, w...
