a video showing the interesting places to be seen in bakewell, derbyshire
Derbyshire's peak district National Park covers an area of 555 square miles (or 1437 km2) and is set between the cities of Manchester and Sheffield to the North and Stoke on Trent and Derby in the South. It's a country of rolling hills and valleys with some of the most beautiful scenery England has to offer.
The video takes us on a tour starting with Padley Gorge, just outside Sheffield's city limits and then onto Bakewell, with its popular Monday Market. Ten minutes drive takes you to the picture post card village of Ashford on the Water and then onto Monsal head, reputedly the best view in the Peak District and Monsal Dale
The Hope Valley is home to the small village of Castleton and here you will find many of the shops selling jewellery and artefacts made from 'Blue John', mineral stone that was mined in the numerous caves around the village. Just outside Castleton is Mam Tor, scene of the largest landslip in Europe. The video finishes with a visit to the three reservoirs of Lady Bower, Derwent and Howden. It was here that the Dam Busters practiced for the raids on Germany during WW11. From here, a short journey over Snake Pass will bring you to the city of Manchester.

100g shortcrust pastry (4oz)
3 tbsp strawberry jam
70g butter (2oz)

zest of a lemon
3 tbsp plain flour
110g ground almonds (4oz)
1 tsp baking powder
flaked almonds (optional)

Hello, i am a home baker and this week a made a Bakewell Tart. This is lovely warm or cold with a nice bit of ice cream or thick cream. It Has a lovely crisp pastry base, jam of your choice and an almond sponge topped with flaked almonds. Its really quick to make and if you don't want to make your own pastry you can easily use premade. Make sure you roll the pastry nice and thin then you won't need to blind bake it first.

Bakewell
Bakewell is a small market town and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, England, well known for the local confection Bakewell Pudding (often mistaken for the Bakewell Tart). It is located on the River Wye, about thirteen miles (21 km) southwest of Sheffield. In the 2011 census the civil parish of Bakewell had a population of 3,949. The town is close to the tourist attractions of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
History
Although there is evidence of earlier settlements in the area, Bakewell itself was probably founded in Anglo Saxon times, when Bakewell was in the Anglian kingdom of Mercia. The name Bakewell means a spring or stream of a man named Badeca (or Beadeca) and derives from this personal name plus the Old English wella.Bakewell Parish Church, a Grade I listed building, was founded in 920 and has a 9th-century cross in the churchyard. The present church was constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries but was virtually rebuilt in the 1840s by William Flockton. By Norman times Bakewell had gained some importance: the town and its church (having two priests) being mentioned in the Domesday Book and a motte and bailey castle was constructed in the 12th century.

Bakewell Tart ( Frangipane) ...... How to
Hello, i am a home baker and this week a made a Bakewell Tart. This is lovely warm or cold with a nice bit of ice cream or thick cream. It Has a lovely crisp pastry base, jam of your choice and an almond sponge topped with flaked almonds. Its really quick to make and if you don't want to make your own pastry you can easily use premade. Make sure you roll the pastry nice and thin then you won't need to blind bake it first. Derbyshire's peak district National Park covers an area of 555 square miles (or 1437 km2) and is set between the cities of Manchester and Sheffield to the North and Stoke on Trent and Derby in the South. It's a country of rolling hills and valleys with some of the most beautiful scenery England has to offer.
The video takes us on a tour starting with Padley Gorge, just outside Sheffield's city limits and then onto Bakewell, with its popular Monday Market. Ten minutes drive takes you to the picture post card village of Ashford on the Water and then onto Monsal head, reputedly the best view in the Peak District and Monsal Dale
The Hope Valley is home to the small village of Castleton and here you will find many of the shops selling jewellery and artefacts made from 'Blue John', mineral stone that was mined in the numerous caves around the village. Just outside Castleton is Mam Tor, scene of the largest landslip in Europe. The video finishes with a visit to the three reservoirs of Lady Bower, Derwent and Howden. It was here that the Dam Busters practiced for the raids on Germany during WW11. From here, a short journey over Snake Pass will bring you to the city of Manchester.

Bakewell, located in the Peak District, in the beautiful county of Derbyshire is rich in history and tradition and has many events throughout the year and hosts a country show every August. Bakewell gets it's name from the Anglo Saxon words for ‘bath-spring’. These early settlers were attracted to the warm springs and wells in the area. Bakewell, located in the Peak District, in the beautiful county of Derbyshire is rich in history and tradition and has many events throughout the year and hosts a country show every August.
Bakewell gets it's name from the Anglo Saxon words for ‘bath-spring’. These early settlers were attracted to the warm springs and wells in the area.
It is easy to get to Bakewell, which is less than 37 miles from Manchester airport and takes approximately one hour travelling through unspoilt countryside.
Although popular in other local towns, in the 17th century they was a failed attempt to change the town in to a fashionable spa.
There are many places of interest that you can visit, including the historical houses of Haddon hall and Chatsworth House, which is the seat to the current Earl of Devonshire.
In addition, you can visit the ancient stone circle at Arbor Low or take a bike ride on the Monsal Trial, an old disused railway line. Climb the white peak or look around the Lumford Mill, take a boat ride on the peak forest canal or go to the famous Bakewell farmers market. All information can be found at the tourist centre.
There are plenty of places to stay, for example the Reckoning hotel, The Coach House, the cartwheel, catcliffe cottage or the greyhound Hotel.

I LOVE Bakewell Mince Pies (a mix of mince pies and bakewell tarts) and they went down a storm on my blog last year so I thought I would use them for my very first proper baking video! They're so easy to make and taste amazing - you need to give these a go!
Ingredients -
Sweet Pastry:
175g plain flour
75g butter, cold and cut into cubes
25g icing sugar
1 egg
Frangipane:
100g butter, softened
100g caster sugar
100g ground almonds
2 eggs
1 tbsp plain flour
1⁄2 tsp almond extract
1 Jar of luxury mincemeat
(makes about 10-12 Mincewell Tarts!)
