Installed Lubuntu on an Acer Aspire One netbook

I was cleaning out my desk this weekend and was reminded that I have this old netbook for a long-completed work project. It's an Acer Aspire One D250 (netbook) with a 1GB factory RAM (I upgraded it to 2GB).

Long story short, I first tried PeppermintOS, which was way-too resource heavy for this decade-plus old machine. Then installed Lubuntu 18.04.3 and it's worked like a dream. It's been fun getting reacquainted with Linux and bringing an old machine back to life. (I'm considering a battery and SSD upgrade, too.)

For now, I'm just having fun mucking around with it.

I have an old Acer Aspire One Netbook with an Intel Atom x86 CPU and 1GB RAM, im thinking to do something with it

Im thinking to turn this old Netbook ina home server or email hosting server, but idk nothing about servers. So i have some questions.

You think that is worth it? With this old and weak hardware

If yes, what you think would be the best use case? Home Server, Email Hosting or something else?

What is the best documentation about servers for newbies? (Im not a newbie in Linux)

About power consumption, if i make this netbook as a Server, i will need to leave powered on all the time? I know that the eletric consumption will increase anyways, but the increase will be something big?

Any recommendations that will be helpfull or usefull?

Acer aspire one brought back to life with Lubuntu

My acer aspire one laptop hasn't been I'm good shape recently, almost always over 90% strain on both CPU and HDD. Not even a clean install of windows 7 helped.

I was brave enough to try one of forks of Ubuntu (correct me if I'm wrong) - lubuntu (I've never used anything Linux like) and now it works like a charm.

Before I had only 100 mg RAM left (so I could barely open one site in IE), now I have 700 MB out of 1 GB. My HDD is in better shape as well, along with my CPU (30% used).

Im very satisfied with the change!

Unable to install Linux on Acer Aspire One 14.

I have done multitudes of research into why this specifically won't work. I have found nothing. I want to install the LTS version of Xubuntu on my Acer Aspire One 14. I downloaded the .iso from their website, used UUI to turn it into a bootable USB. I insert it into my laptop, I enter BIOS and turn trackpad to basic, turn on F12 boot menu, and arranged the USB HDD to priority above the EMMC drive. It boots to windows regardless. Even when I press F12 to open the Boot Menu, only windows boot manager appears.

However, if I set boot mode to legacy and change the priority order, it boots into the Xubuntu bios installer screen. When I press F12 the USB Stick now shows up on the list. However, no matter what command I select, the screen goes dark, and then back at the acer splash screen and the process starts all over. I am currently attempting to download Mint onto another USB drive just to make sure it isn't the drive or the distro but can anyone help here?

Acer Aspire One gaming

Any other Acer Aspire One gamers here? If so, what games do you run on yours? Any in particular that you were surprised could run well? Unfortunately I cant test as many games as I'd like to because I need a job. I also really need to upgrade my ram (I'm planning on getting an 8gb stick] since 1.7 is clearly (through my experience anyway) not enough to game on Windows 8 64-bit. Mine has the c70/Radeon 7290 APU and so far I can run:

-Doom 3 (Mid settings, everything off besides bump mapping and Vsync. this one required some tweaking and even then it still has some FPS problems when stuff is going on, I'm not sure if it's because it's cracked or anything]

-F.E.A.R (Mid-ish settings, games runs very well with minor fps drops. Runs better than Doom 3. Extraction point doesn't run as well and I can't get it to run in 1336x768 no matter what I do, Perseaus Mandate runs much better and looks great in widescreen 1336x768, but has a stuttering problem that I haven't tried to fix yet.

-Star Wars: Republic Commando (Mid-high setting. No problems besides fps drops when a lot is going]

-Raiden III (No problems besides slowdown when a lot is going on)

-Sanctum (Runs very well in 1336x768 with most graphics options on low)

-Dead Space (Runs decently from what I've played with everything on low and in 1024x768, but with fps drops and sound lag at some points. I also need to use a controller since I find it to be unplayable with mouse/keyboard. I'll do more testing once I get that RAM upgrade)

-Resident Evil: Revelations demo (Runs surprisingly well on low settings in 1336x768, only problem is stutters when opening doors, although I'm predicting that the RAM upgrade will help this. I would assume that this all applies to the full game too)

-Half-Life 2 (Mid settings, runs great)

-TF2 (I've tried pretty much everything and I just can't get this game to run smoothly, there's apparently this one fix that involves turning off your antivirus though that I haven't tried yet)

-Portal (Mid-settings, runs perfectly)

-No More Room in Hell (Runs decently on lowest settings but the fps does drop when going outside with many zombies, I'm hoping the RAM upgrade will help with this since the minimum is 1.5 and the recommended is 4)

-Halo:CE (No issues running on high settings [specular turned off though] with "-Use11" enabled, you'll probably need to lower your settings when playing on different mods though)

-Halo 2 (Terrible mouse lag, I need to use a controller when I play in full-screen mode. No lag in windowed mode however. Runs well in 1336x768 on mid settings)

-Minecraft (Laggy at first but soon becomes playable after a few moments on low settings)

-F.E.A.R 2 demo (Runs well on low settings when much isn't going on but does lag when things get intense. I'll try the full game once I upgrade my RAM and see how it runs, also this is a demo so it might not be as optimized as the full game)

-Ikaruga demo (Runs well on low settings but with with some slowdown at points. I haven't had a lot of time to test this one yet)

Games I want to try:

-Borderlands 2 -Fallout 3/New Vegas -Bioshock 1/2 -Devil May Cry 4 -GRID -Cod4/MW2 -Resident Evil 4 HD Edition -Killing Floor -Counter Strike Source and GO

It has a intel atom processor (1 core at 1,7ghz i believe) and 1 GB of ram. It currently has windows 8 and is terribly slow.

I will mainly use this laptop for :

1.Downloading/watching movies/torrents 2.Reddit/youtube 3.Maybe very light casual games

Thanks for your time
