In this subreddit: we roll our eyes and snicker at minimum system requirements. This is a community for anyone struggling to find something to play for that older system, or sharing or seeking tips for how to run that shiny new game on yesterday's hardware. Found a cool game that runs fantastic on a lower end system? Great! Do you have a guide for running a newer game below the minimum requirements? Share it!
Any other Acer Aspire One gamers here? If so, what games do you run on yours? Any in particular that you were surprised could run well? Unfortunately I cant test as many games as I'd like to because I need a job. I also really need to upgrade my ram (I'm planning on getting an 8gb stick] since 1.7 is clearly (through my experience anyway) not enough to game on Windows 8 64-bit. Mine has the c70/Radeon 7290 APU and so far I can run:
-Doom 3 (Mid settings, everything off besides bump mapping and Vsync. this one required some tweaking and even then it still has some FPS problems when stuff is going on, I'm not sure if it's because it's cracked or anything]
-F.E.A.R (Mid-ish settings, games runs very well with minor fps drops. Runs better than Doom 3. Extraction point doesn't run as well and I can't get it to run in 1336x768 no matter what I do, Perseaus Mandate runs much better and looks great in widescreen 1336x768, but has a stuttering problem that I haven't tried to fix yet.
-Star Wars: Republic Commando (Mid-high setting. No problems besides fps drops when a lot is going]
-Raiden III (No problems besides slowdown when a lot is going on)
-Sanctum (Runs very well in 1336x768 with most graphics options on low)
-Dead Space (Runs decently from what I've played with everything on low and in 1024x768, but with fps drops and sound lag at some points. I also need to use a controller since I find it to be unplayable with mouse/keyboard. I'll do more testing once I get that RAM upgrade)
-Resident Evil: Revelations demo (Runs surprisingly well on low settings in 1336x768, only problem is stutters when opening doors, although I'm predicting that the RAM upgrade will help this. I would assume that this all applies to the full game too)
-Half-Life 2 (Mid settings, runs great)
-TF2 (I've tried pretty much everything and I just can't get this game to run smoothly, there's apparently this one fix that involves turning off your antivirus though that I haven't tried yet)
-Portal (Mid-settings, runs perfectly)
-No More Room in Hell (Runs decently on lowest settings but the fps does drop when going outside with many zombies, I'm hoping the RAM upgrade will help with this since the minimum is 1.5 and the recommended is 4)
-Halo:CE (No issues running on high settings [specular turned off though] with "-Use11" enabled, you'll probably need to lower your settings when playing on different mods though)
-Halo 2 (Terrible mouse lag, I need to use a controller when I play in full-screen mode. No lag in windowed mode however. Runs well in 1336x768 on mid settings)
-Minecraft (Laggy at first but soon becomes playable after a few moments on low settings)
-F.E.A.R 2 demo (Runs well on low settings when much isn't going on but does lag when things get intense. I'll try the full game once I upgrade my RAM and see how it runs, also this is a demo so it might not be as optimized as the full game)
-Ikaruga demo (Runs well on low settings but with with some slowdown at points. I haven't had a lot of time to test this one yet)
Games I want to try:
-Borderlands 2 -Fallout 3/New Vegas -Bioshock 1/2 -Devil May Cry 4 -GRID -Cod4/MW2 -Resident Evil 4 HD Edition -Killing Floor -Counter Strike Source and GO
