In 2014, Islamic State militants swept into Western Iraq's Anbar Province, overrunning Iraqi security forces, enslaving minorities, and causing thousands to flee for their lives.
The jihadist group captured Iraq’s largest city, Mosul, and the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah, where hundreds of US troops died fighting the Islamic State’s predecessor.
Now, two years later, the Iraqi security forces, with help from Iranian-supported Shiite militias and US military advisors and warplanes, are fighting to take back towns and cities in Anbar, one battle at a time.
But it’s a difficult task: Anbar has been the crucible of Iraq’s insurgency, and is the country’s Sunni heartland — long marginalized by and hostile to the Shiite-led government in Baghdad.
VICE News embedded with Iraq’s Golden Division Special Forces unit as they fought their way into the villages surrounding the city of Hit, where they encountered ambushes, sniper fire, and tried to sort suspected Islamic State operatives and sympathizers from innocent Iraqi civilians.

جمهورية العراق Jumhūrīyat al-‘Irāq; Kurdish: كۆماری عێراق Komar-i ‘Êraq), is a country in Western Asia. The country borders Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Kuwait to the southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the southwest, and Syria to the west. The southern part of Iraq is within the Arabian Peninsula. The capital, Baghdad, is in the centre of the country and its largest city. The largest ethnic groups in Iraq are Arabs and Kurds. Other ethnic groups include Assyrians, Turkmen, Shabakis, Yazidis, Armenians, Mandeans, Circassians, and Kawliya. Around 95% of the country's 36 million citizens are Shia or Sunni Muslims, with Christianity, Yarsan, Yezidism, and Mandeanism also present.
Iraq has a narrow section of coastline measuring 58 km (36 mi) on the northern Persian Gulf and its territory encompasses the Mesopotamian Alluvial Plain, the northwestern end of the Zagros mountain range, and the eastern part of the Syrian Desert. Two major rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, run south through the centre of Iraq and flow into the Shatt al-Arab near the Persian Gulf. These rivers provide Iraq with significant amounts of fertile land.

In 2014, Islamic State militants swept into Western Iraq's Anbar Province, overrunning Iraqi security forces, enslaving minorities, and causing thousands to flee for their lives.
The jihadist group captured Iraq’s largest city, Mosul, and the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah, where hundreds of US troops died fighting the Islamic State’s predecessor.
Now, two years later, the Iraqi security forces, with help from Iranian-supported Shiite militias and US military advisors and warplanes, are fighting to take back towns and cities in Anbar, one battle at a time.
But it’s a difficult task: Anbar has been the crucible of Iraq’s insurgency, and is the country’s Sunni heartland — long marginalized by and hostile to the Shiite-led government in Baghdad.
VICE News embedded with Iraq’s Golden Division Special Forces unit as they fought their way into the villages surrounding the city of Hit, where they encountered ambushes, sniper fire, and tried to sort suspected Islamic State operatives and sympathizers from innocent Iraqi civilians.

IFLC IRAQ KRG 2016 - COLOURS OF THE WORLD - HD
IFLC - Iraq KRG was held in Erbil, Saad Abdullah Hall on the 4th of May. Students from 13 different countries performed songs and folks dances belonging their own cultures. Participants had a chance to learn about Kurdish, Iraq and Mesopotamian cultures students showed the most beautiful examples of "art of living together" on the stage. More than 2000 people watched the show including Governor of Erbil , Newzad Hadi, President of Kurdistan Parliament and ministry of culture of KRG. Taking the call for peace to the middle of the conflict zone, renowned spiritual leader and founder of The Art of Living, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar addressed a peace conference in Erbil in Kurdistan, the violence hit province of Iraq on thursday. Pitching for co-existence, compassion and commitment to peace, Sri Sri said, “Peace conferences are held where there is peace. I wanted to do this conference in middle of conflict.”
He also visited relief camps near Erbil to give solace to hundreds of displaced Christians, Kurds, Arabs. The International Association for Human Values, a sister concern of The Art of living along with few NGO’s have been working in Iraq bringing in relief in terms of material aid. The organization along with other NGO’s has collected more than 110 tonnes of food supplies to be delivered to Yazidi refugees on Sinjar mountains.
The visit which was Sri Sri’s third to Iraq saw him deliberate with various leaders bringing them on a common platform to discuss peace. He also addressed the Kurdish parliament and met The Speaker of Iraqi Kurdistan, Dr. Yusif Muhammad Sadiq and senior Yazidi leader and advisor to government of Erbil, Dr Mirza Dinaayi. Mr. Abdul Hussein Abtan, Minister of Sports & Youth, Iraq flew in from Baghdad to meet the spiritual leader and appreciated the hard work of the organization’s volunteers.
Addressing the peace conference titled “Protecting Women and Bringing Stability and Peace”, organised by The International Association For Human Values (IAHV) he honored Kurdish Kobani woman fighter, Jeyan Haldan.
Sri Sri said, “Dark forces are creating conflict and havoc in the world. In 21st century, people want to drag us back to the dark ages.” He further hoped that the conference would bring clarity, communication, commitment of participants to achieve action for peace.
“Kurdistan is a bouquet of culture and we must preserve it. Yazidis and Shabad who are facing persecution need to be preserved. Co-existence is the Divine design for the planet!”, he added.
“We want to send a clear message to those who think violence is the way that they are wrong,” he said while highlighting the need for educating the Youth who have not yet joined extreme ideologies about the futility of such radicalisation.

Bringing solace to the inmates who have been languishing in inhuman conditions for months, Sri sri said, “Your life will get on track soon. Please know you are not alone, there are lots of good people on the planet with you.”

The Art of Living and International Association For Human Values of The Art of Living has been working to bring relief to refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs). From its base in Erbil, the team has brought relief in the form of food, water and hygiene products and reached out to more than 2,000 families.

The U.S. stated that the intent was to remove "a regime that developed and used weapons of mass destruction, that harbored and supported terrorists, committed outrageous human rights abuses, and defied the just demands of the United Nations and the world". Additional reasons have been suggested: "to change the Middle East so as to deny support for militant Islam by pressuring or transforming the nations and transnational systems that support it." For the invasion of Iraq the rationale was "the United States relied on the authority of UN Security Council Resolutions 678 and 687 to use all necessary means to compel Iraq to comply with its international obligations".[3]
In the lead-up to the invasion, the U.S. and UK emphasized the argument that Saddam Hussein was developing "weapons of mass destruction" and thus presented a threat to his neighbors, to the U.S., and to the world community. The U.S. stated "on November 8, 2002, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1441. All fifteen members of the Security Council agreed to give Iraq a final opportunity to comply with its obligations and disarm or face the serious consequences of failing to disarm. The resolution strengthened the mandate of the UN Monitoring and Verification Commission (UNMOVIC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), giving them authority to go anywhere, at any time and talk to anyone in order to verify Iraq's disarmament."[4] Throughout late 2001, 2002, and early 2003, the Bush Administration worked to build a case for invading Iraq, culminating in then Secretary of State Colin Powell's February 2003 address to the Security Council. Shortly after the invasion, the Central Intelligence Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, and other intelligence agencies largely discredited evidence related to Iraqi weapons as well as links to Al-Qaeda, and at this point the Bush and Blair Administrations began to shift to secondary rationales for the war, such as the Hussein government's human rights record and promoting democracy in Iraq. Opinion polls showed that the population of nearly all countries opposed a war without UN mandate, and that the view of the United States as a danger to world peace had significantly increased. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan described the war as illegal, saying in a September 2004 interview that it was "not in conformity with the Security Council."
Accusations of faulty evidence and alleged shifting rationales became the focal point for critics of the war, who charge that the Bush Administration purposely fabricated evidence to justify an invasion it long planned to launch. Supporters of the war claim that the threat from Iraq and Saddam Hussein was real and that this has later been established. The U.S. led the effort for "the redirection of former Iraqi weapons of mass destruction (WMD) scientists, technicians and engineers to civilian employment and discourage emigration of this community from Iraq."

An average charge within a city drive is 2 dollers, as for the Bus it is definitely cheaper. To hire a car with or without driver could be the option for you. Erbil city is the capital of Kurdistan Region Government, the oldest city with continuous residentially. Kalar consists of 27 quarters of a population of about 250,000 residents. Kalar is located on a large plain area embracing many historical sites related to different periods; BC, AD, and Islamic periods. Shirwana Citadel, Pasha Citadel and Christian Canal are examples of AD historical sites. In winter, temperatures may reach 2˚C.

Getting There: Iraqi Kurdistan has two international airports, Erbil and Sulaimany. Currently there are direct international flights from Kurdistan to Dubai, Amman, Beirut and Frankfort.
There is the option to reach to Kurdistan by flying to Turkey: - Purchase a ticket to Diyarbakir (the nearest large city to the Turkish / Iraqi Kurdistan border). Upon arrival to the Diyarbakir airport, you will need to take a taxi to the border (Ibrahim Khalil / Habur). Once you have crossed the Turkish border into Iraqi Kurdistan (Ibrahim Khalil/Habur), you will be greeted by the Kurdish customs officials who will issue you a visa and further information on your destination.
Getting Around Iraqi Kurdistan: Taxi, Bus, and Private Car Hire. If you are mainly interested in staying in a city, taxi is reliable and good value for money. An average charge within a city drive is 2 dollers, as for the Bus it is definitely cheaper. To hire a car with or without driver could be the option for you. You can have your own chauffeur at your disposal throughout your stay. This will offer you the choice to travel short or long distances. A local driver has the knowledge and will advise you throughout your visit.

Iraq War 2016 - Iraqi Forces In Heavy Clashes With ISIS During Intense Combat Action In The Battle For Fallujah.
The Iraqi Army, Iraqi Special Forces, Iraqs Federal Police and Iraqi paramilitary units of Iraqs Popular Mobilizition Forces released footage of them launching a major offensive against the ISIS held town of Fallujah.
The video shows Iraqi forces in heavy clashes, fighting and firefights during intense combat action in and outside the town during the recent Iraqi assault in order to capture Fallujah from ISIS fighters.
The offensive was a full sucess and Iraqi troops managed it to gain back the control over Fallujah after months of fighting.
The Battle of Fallujah (2016), also referred to as Third Battle of Fallujah,[ or Fallujah offensive (2016), code-named Operation Breaking Terrorism (Arabic: عملية كسر الإرهاب) by the Iraqi government, was a military operation against ISIL launched to capture the city of Fallujah and its suburbs, located about 69 kilometers (40 miles) west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The operation began on 22 May 2016, three months after the Iraqi forces had started the total siege of Fallujah. On 26 June, Iraqi forces recaptured the city of Fallujah, before recapturing the remaining pocket of ISIS resistance in Fallujah's western outskirts two days later.
Fallujah was the first city seized by ISIS in Iraq in January 2014. Iraqi forces completely surrounded the western city after they recaptured Ramadi in February 2016. ISIS militants prevented people from leaving the city.
Fallujah is considered tohave been the second most important stronghold of ISIS in Iraq, after Mosul.
The defeat of the Islamic State in this region can be seen as a major defeat for the group.
Combat started outside the site with Iraqi Special Forces and Popular Mobilization units carefully fighting their way towards the city before fierce urban combat action and heavy clashes started inside the town backed by Iraqi Mi-24 Hind and Mi-28 Havoc helicopters and several other Iraqi aircraft pounding ISIS positions while Iraqi Federal Police units and forces of the Iraqi Army were conducting operations inside the town aswell.
