President Park condemns North Korea's fifth nuclear test, flies home earlier than schedule

Before flying back home, she ordered a National Security Council meeting and held a meeting with her chief aides traveling with her... and condemned the North Korean regime for ignoring international calls for it to give up its weapons... vowing stronger countermeasures against the North. Park chaired an immediate meeting as soon as she arrived at her office. We are going to connect to our Presidential Office Correspondent Song Ji-sun, at Cheong Wa Dae Ji-sun, "Connyoung, we arrived at Seoul Air Base just three hours ago... and President Park convened an emergency meeting checking upon the nation's security conditions as soon as she arrived at the top office, at around 9-05 p.m. At the meetinng, Park said the countermeasure from the international community must be different now as the North's nuclear threat is an eminent and a real one... and that the Kim Jong-un regime has gone out of control. Following North Korea's fifth nuclear test, President Park Geun-hye immediately ordered a National Security Council meeting back home which was chaired by Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn. After an emergency meeting with her chief aides and cabinet members in Vientiane... President Park released a message strongly condemning the North's fifth nuclear test. She said the nuclear test only proves the Kim Jong-un regime's mad recklessness... and that this fifth nuclear test, as well as the fourth one earlier this year... are a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions.. neglecting the international community. "North Korea's nuclear test coming less than 24 hours after the East Asia Summit's adoption of a non-proliferation statement is proof that it completely ignores the international community's united position against the North's nuclear program and attests to the maniacal recklessness of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un." She also said Pyongyang is on a path to self destruction and further isolation... as long as it completely ignores the international call to give up its nuclear ambitions. "The only thing the Kim Jong-un regime has gained from today's nuclear test is tougher sanctions and further isolation from the international community which will eventually speed up its path to self-destruction." President Park also spoke with U.S. President Barack Obama on the phone for about 15 minutes, less than four hours after the confirmed launch. The allies vowed to seek stronger countermeasures... including upgraded UN Security Council resolutions. President Obama pledged to protect South Korea with all necessary measures according to their joint defense treaties... which includes a nuclear umbrella, to deter the North's nuclear proliferation. She also spoke with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, vowing to closely coordinate against North Korean provocations. "Stressing the severity of the current security conditions, Park called for domestic unity and the need to take necessary actions against North Korean threats. President Park said that Seoul, in a close alliance with the international community, will seek stronger sanctions on the global and bilateral levels... and take all necessary measures to pressure North Korea to give up its nuclear program.
