Phoenicia (UK/fɨˈnɪʃə/, US/fəˈniːʃə/; from the Greek: Φοινίκη: Phoiníkē), was an ancient SemiticCanaanite civilization situated on the western, coastal part of the Fertile Crescent. The major Phoenician cities were on the coastline of the Mediterranean. It was an enterprising maritime trading culture that spread across the Mediterranean from 1550 BC to 300 BC. The Phoenicians used the galley, a man-powered sailing vessel, and are credited with the invention of the bireme. They were famed in Classical Greece and Rome as 'traders in purple', referring to their monopoly on the precious purple dye of the Murex snail, used, among other things, for royal clothing, and for their spread of the alphabet (or abjad), upon which all major modern phonetic alphabets are derived.
In the Amarna tablets of the 14th century BC, people from the region called themselves Kenaani or Kinaani (Canaanites), although these letters predate the invasion of the Sea Peoples by over a century. Much later, in the 6th century BC, Hecataeus of Miletus writes that Phoenicia was formerly called χνα, a name Philo of Byblos later adopted into his mythology as his eponym for the Phoenicians: "Khna who was afterwards called Phoinix". Egyptian seafaring expeditions had already been made to Byblos to bring back "cedars of Lebanon" as early as the third millennium BC.
Stanley Kubrick (/ˈkuːbrɪk/; July 26, 1928 – March 7, 1999) was an American film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer and editor. He is regarded as having been one of America's greatest filmmakers. His films, typically adaptations of novels or short stories, were noted for their "dazzling" and unique cinematography, attention to details to achieve realism and an inspired use of music scores. Kubrick's films covered a variety of genres, including war, black comedy, horror and science fiction. Kubrick was also noted for being a perfectionist, using painstaking care with scene staging and working closely with his actors.
Starting out as a photographer in New York City, he taught himself all aspects of film production and directing after graduating high school. His earliest films were made on a shoestring budget, followed by one Hollywood blockbuster, after which he spent most of the rest of his career living and filming in England. His home became his workplace where he did his writing, research, editing and management of production details. This allowed him to have almost complete artistic control, but with the rare advantage of having financial support from major Hollywood studios.

Balancing Standard English with respect for Appalachian Dialect inherent to Harlan County, Kentucky, has been a life-long effort. “I didn’t send you to college to come home and tell me How to Talk,” Dad said in 1986. For as long as I remember, Mom said, “If you ever wanna get out’ta of here, you got’ta learn How to Talk.” Leaning too deeply in Dad’s direction would have limited my choices, my job options, but tilting too far toward Mom would have depleted me of depth and culture found hiding in hollers and hills. It’s been a Balancing Act.

The Phoenician Alphabet
The Phoenician invented the first known alphabet in history. The Phoenician alphabet, called the Porto-Canaanite alphabet was developed circa 1400-1250 BC in order to communicate with the different cultures and nations.
The Phoenician alphabet became one of the most widely used writing systems, spread by Phoenician merchants across the Mediterranean world.
The Aramaic alphabet, a modified form of Phoenician, was the ancestor of modern Arabic script, while Hebrew script is a stylistic variant of the Aramaic script. The Greek alphabet, "with its descendants such as the Latin and Coptic", was a direct successor of Phoenician, though certain le

While many archaeologists have a good understanding of the history of the region which they study, such is not at all true of the Near East. Especially in Palestine, the history of the region has been distorted not only due to the incorrect identification of the ancient inhabitants, but also due to its politicization resulting from 'zionism' and the arab-jewish conflict of recent decades. The jews have controlled the archaeology of the region very tightly, especially since the 1960's. Typically, whatever archaeological discovery which suits the jewish view of ancient Israel is labeled as Israelite, while anything which does not appear to be jewish is considered to be Canaanite, Hittite, or Philistine, et al. An example of this is found in a review of Dan II. A Chronicle of the Excavations and the Late Bronze Age "Mycenaean" Tomb in the journal Near Eastern Archaeology, 67:3 (2004), p. 176, where it is evident that the authors of this study of the findings at Tel Dan in Palestine are quite oblivious to the fact that the Mycenaean (Danae) Greeks and the Israelite tribe of Dan were indeed one and the same people. It would not suit the jews to discover that this branch of the "Indo-European", Aryan Greeks were indeed Hebrews, although on occasion such a discussion has not been avoided. Of course, all of the archaeologists mentioned in connection with the study are jews. http://christogenea.org/essays/classical-biblical-records-identifying-phoenicians

Appalachian Dialect or Standard English? Place Is the Answer | Phoenicia Miracle | TEDxCreativeCoast
Since 2009, Phoenicia Miracle has led Memorial Health Foundation’s
fundraising efforts. Before joining Memorial, Miracle worked as development director for Savannah Music Festival and Second Harvest Food Bank. Early in her career, she taught secondary language arts and worked as a newspaper journalist. Miracle holds a master’s degree in English education from Georgia Southern University, where she graduated magna cum laude, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Western Kentucky University. Born in Appalachia’s Harlan, Ky., Miracle balances regard for the richness of Appalachian Dialect with respect for Standard English.

http://www.visitvortex.com Join Carla and VISITvortex on a little trip to Phoenicia, New York, a great little town in the Catskills small enough to feel like you're in the middle of nature, but big enough to have exactly what you need.
Phoenicia is a beautiful place to visit any time of year. Plan to come more than once, and get to know some of the locals. Swing by in the winter to ski, in the spring to flyfish, in the summer to go tubing and in the fall to camp and enjoy the foliage.
Take a tour of Tenderland Home, Sportsman's Alamo Cantina, Brios, and Ricciardella's, Arts Upstairs and Mt. Tremper's La Duchesse Anne. Enjoy!

The Greek alphabet, "with its descendants such as the Latin and Coptic", was a direct successor of Phoenician, though certain letter values were changed to represent vowels.
It was the Phoenician alphabet that was widely received in all the Mediterranean including Greece, as it was made up of 22 letters based on sound, as opposed to the myriad of symbols in cuneiform and hieroglyphics which was used at these days.
The legend of the Phoenix Bird that was consumed by fire only to regenerate is based upon the Phoenician people, whose land was destroyed many times only to regenerate time and time again.
The word Bible means "the book," is derived from the city of Byblos. Byblos was well known for its papyrus trading, which was used in bookmaking in these days.
It didn't stop only on the Alphabet, the Phoenicians made many contributions to civilization.
The Law School
In the First century, Beirut was already well known for its school of law. Beirut was called "Mother of Laws". One of the most renowned law teachers Papinien, professed 1800 years before the United Nations, that all men are created equal.
Mathematics
Pythagoras, the inventor of the multiplication tables, the founder of the hypotenuse theorem, and discoverer of the magic of numbers, was born and raised in Sidon.
Open Seas Naval Vessels
The Phoenicians, in pursuit of commercial outlets and protection of their trade routes, had to develop vessels over 100 feet long, which were capable of traversing the Mediterranean and sailing into the Atlantic. A Phoenician fleet circumnavigated the African Continent, proving that it was surrounded by water, about two millenniums before Vasco de Gama managed to duplicate their feat.
Purple Dye
Sidon and Tyre were reputed to produce the finest purple dye for garments. The dye was extracted from the murex, a mollusc found on the Mediterranean shore
Theory of the Atom
Mochios of Sidon discovered the existence of the Atom, and formulated its theory more than 3000 years ago.
North Star
The properties of the North Star and its viability as a navigational reference were discovered by the Phoenicians. So closely associated with them that it was called the "Phoenician Star" up until the 19th century.
Europa
The princess of Tyre, Europa, gave her name to the Continent. She was the sister of Cadmus, and the daughter of King of Tyre. Myth has it that she was kidnapped by a Greek God named Zeus and taken to Greece. Cadmus took the Alphabets with him and went searching for his sister, where he found her living happily in Greece. Together, Cadmus and Europa taught the Greeks the use of the Alphabet. This myth reflects the reality that the Greeks acquired their Alphabet from the Phoenicians.
Music by : Posthumus
Their music is inspired by the Pythagorean philosophy which states the Harmony of music in relation with our universe."

Israel Travel Video Guide, While the current State of Israel is a relatively new country founded in 1948, the Land of Israel has a long and often very complex history stretching back thousands of years to the very beginnings of human civilization. It has been invaded by virtually every Old World empire including the Persians, Romans, Ottomans and British. (Even the Mongols once raided cities on what is now Israeli soil.) It is also the birthplace of both Judaism and Christianity. Jerusalem is a sacred city for Muslims.
Israel has been inhabited for tens of thousands of years, with Neanderthal remains from the region dating back 50,000 years. Its strategic location serving as the gateway from Asia to Egypt and Africa had made Israel an ideal target for conquerors through the ages. The first nation to have influence was the great Egyptian civilization. Approximately 1000 B.C, an independent Judean Kingdom was set up under King Saul. The land lay to the south of Phoenicia. After intermittent civil war, the land was conquered by the Assyrians and Persians and in c. 330 BC by Alexander the Great. A newly independent Jewish state, ruled by the Maccabees, was conquered in 63 BC by the Romans. Around 30 CE, Jesus of Nazareth began his ministry in the Galilee.
Following a Jewish revolt against the Romans in 70 CE, the Israelites were expelled from Jerusalem by the Romans, creating a substantial Jewish diaspora throughout the world. However, many Israelites did remain in the Land of Israel outside Jerusalem for a few centuries, although persecution gradually eroded at whatever Israelites population was left in their homeland. The area was captured by Muslims in the 7th Century. In the middle ages, European Christians invaded in a period known as the Crusades and established a small kingdom, but after a few centuries were expelled. The land was then ruled for many years by different Muslim empires, culminating in the Ottoman Empire. Enjoy your Israel Travel Video Guide!

In the middle ages, European Christians invaded in a period known as the Crusades and established a small kingdom, but after a few centuries were expelled. The land was then ruled for many years by different Muslim empires, culminating in the Ottoman Empire. Enjoy your Israel Travel Video Guide!

Archaeology as we know it today is a rather young science, which has developed under the burden of many assumptions concerning history which are commonly held, but not necessarily correct. It is also a very inexact science, where various interpretations may be disputed concerning each new discovery. Yet archaeology is not history, archaeologists are not historians, and their field came into its present form only after outgrowing the lesser position it once held as part of the anthropology department in the typical university.
http://thetencommandmentsministry.us/
While many archaeologists have a good understanding of the history of the region which they study, such is not at all true of the Near East.
