The war in Syria is dragging neighbouring Lebanon to the edge of the abyss, and nowhere is the growing chaos more stark than in the second city of Tripoli. Sunni militants aligned with the Syrian rebels frequently clash with fighters from the city's encircled Alawite minority, who support the Assad regime, in bitter street fighting the country's weak government is powerless to stop. With the rule of law no longer in effect in Tripoli, warlords like Sunni commander Ziad Allouki are now the city's real rulers, so VICE hung out with him and his fighters for a week to discover why they're fighting, and whether the country really is on the brink of civil war.

Welcome to the frontline of sectarian warfare: Tripoli, North Lebanon. In Jabal Mohsen and Bab al Tabbaneh, violent clashes between Alawite and Sunni neighbours erupt every few weeks.
These two slum communities have been slugging it out since the 1970s. Neither has the energy or will to escape the futile, bloody conflict that has come to define them both. A mother of two would rather hide her children in darkness than flee the city: "Even if they enter our houses, we will slaughter them, kill them: it's either us or them". Abu Rami is one of the 50,000 people crammed onto the hilltop called Jabal Muhsin. "My enemy and their enemy is hunger, poverty and ignorance. My enemy is not the guns they hold and fire at me". So says this war-weary veteran they call 'the living martyr', thirty-five years a militia leader - a gunman since his teens.
Down below in the predominantly Sunni district of Bab al Tabbaneh, Salafist preacher and father Sheikh Bilal al-Masri is trigger-happy and eager for a fight."I've only witnessed death and killings, jail, torture, displacement, rape looting" he says of the Syrian regime. As the conflict seems to pass on from each generation, the population can only hope for a common solution to emerge from the carnage.

Travel video about destination Tripoli in Libya.
Tripoli is the capital of the desert state of Libya. The old town is known as the Medina and with its narrow lanes and squat buildings it is a combination of Arabian, North African and Mediterranean cultures. The joie de vivre of the local people is obvious and music and dance are part of their daily life. In antiquity the city was called Oea that was one of the three cities of Tripolitania and in Roman times this section of the coast contained the trading towns of Leptis Magna and Sabratha. Since 1963 Tripoli has been the capital of the Great Socialist Libyan-Arab People’s Republic. The old town contains a souk that was almost fully abandoned following the Great Revolution as private trading was then forbidden but when the law was abolished in 1988 it once again sprang to life. Modern Tripoli is undergoing constant development. Contemporary architecture is everywhere with skyscrapers that contain offices and apartments that have been built on the periphery of the city. Around seventy kilometres west of Tripoli and also located on the Mediterranean coast are the remains of the ancient trading town of Sabratha. Its Theatre has been rebuilt and is still an impressive structure that dates back to the second century A.D. Tripoli, along with the historic towns of the former Tripolitania, is one of the most spectacular places of ancient culture in North Africa and the heritage of an advanced civilisation located on the edge of the Sahara.

VICE travels to West Africa to rummage through the messy remains of a country ravaged by 14 years of civil war. Despite the United Nation's eventual intervention, most of Liberia's young people continue to live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. The former child soldiers who were forced into war have been left to fend for themselves, the murderous warlords who once led them in cannibalistic rampages have taken up as so-called community leaders, and new militias are lying in wait for the opportunity to reclaim their country from a government they rightly mistrust.

Assaraya Alhmara Museum, Tripoli, Libya - Assaraya Alhamra, "The Red Castle" or "The Red Fort" was painted red after the Spanish invasions in 1510 AD. Digging along an adjacent road revealed that the fort was built on top of an ancient Roman fortified camp. The building was established by the Phoenicians, who later abandoned the city after they established the nearby Carthage. A road once passed through the castle and was adorned with statues on both sides, which gave the museum an unique outdoor department. The castle was built to defend the city, it continued to be the centre of Tripoli's power right up to the 20th century.
After the Romans' descendants' return in 1911, the Italian converted a section of the castle, that was originally used as an ammunition storehouse, into Libya's first museum in 1919, to house some of the countless archaeological artifacts scattered across Libya since prehistoric times. By 1930s, it was named the Classical Museum - in reference to the classical Greco-Roman period. After the British occupied Libya during the Second War, the museum grew to occupy the entire complex and became known as The Libyan Museum in 1948, with the four wings: Prehistory - Ancient Libyan Tribes (the Berbers: Garamentes, Tuareg, etc.) - Libyan-Punic-Greco-Roman-Byzantine Traditions - Natural History
After Gaddafi's September Revolution, in 1969, a new wing was added, The People's Era Wing, to document the Libyan struggle for independence. and then later a war museum, known as The Conflict Museum. In 1982, in a joint venture with the UNISCO, the museum was further developed to its current state and became known as Assaraya Alhmara museum, which reopened its doors to the public in 1988. The museum occupies 10,000 square meters and is widely recognised as one of the most important and richest museums in the world; owing to its unique collection of original items spanning all periods of human's civilisation on this planet, right from the stone age and the prehistoric civilisations of the great Sahara desert to the medieval periods and the present day. Libya is rich in archaeology, with most of its prehistoric secrets still buried under the desert's sand and beneath the sea's water, for future generations to rediscover and bring to life once more.

Cyprus Travel Guide http://bit.ly/1fhFShE
Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Paphos, the most important religious, cultural and commercial center in Cyprus,
which used to be the capital at one point.
Cytherea, the Cyprus-born,, I shall sing who gives gentle gifts to mortals and on her lovely face always there are smiles and delightful bloom shines over it, wrote Homer in his hymn to Aphrodite. The goddess of beauty and love emerged from the sea by the shores of Petra Tou Romiou. This romantic tale and the beautifully shaped rocks of the shore entices a lot of people to swim out into the sea and touch the rock of Aphrodite in the hope of eternal youth. I've never seen such an island of such female character, never breathed an air that is so dangerous and so full of sweet temptations confessed the greatest neoGreek writer Nikos Kazantzakis. Troodos Mountain lies in the middle of island. Its highest peak, the Olympus is almost 2000m high. Its gentle slopes face southwest. Many people who did not like the heat built their houses or vacation homes here instead of the seashore. The air is always pleasantly cool and balsamic and the trees offer plenty of shade. English bureaucrats also moved here with their families and lived in great colonial style houses with large terraces and took care of their official business from here. As they love to hike in the woods, we have thank them for many tourist trails and paths that lead to wonderful sights.
The purpose of the exhibition rooms, the screening room and the pamphlets in the visitors' center at the gates of the Troodos Mountains is to show visitors the things that are worthwhile seeing on the mountain. This is all the more important as people who visit the mountain in summer have no idea what it is like in winter and vice versa. The documentary film shows the changing of the seasons, the native wildlife, colorful vegetation and offers a glimpse into the traditional life of the people living in the villages on the mountain. This is also good for business because summer vacationers may become winter skiers as a result of watching this film. An interesting fact is that Rimbaud worked here as a headman on the building of the governor's palace. The then 26 year old French engineer came to Cyprus looking for adventure and found the island to be poetic. We can see mouflans, foxes, and forest animals portrayed on film and also stuffed.
There are no snakes on the island today which is allegedly due to a whole shipment of cats being brought in at one point to kill these reptiles. Whether this story is true or not, cats are preferred to dogs on the island as the latter allegedly once spread some sort of infection throughout the island. Maybe this is the reason that there are wild cats in the Troodos Mountains yet not many dogs are kept in the houses. Dogs are only becoming popular pets nowadays. In ancient times and the middle ages, the mountainsides of Cyprus used to be covered with seemingly endless rows of cedar trees. The resistant good quality hardwood was used to build boats so forests became scarce. Luckily, they weren't destroyed altogether and thanks to methodical replanting, cedar forests can be found in great numbers around the mountains. South of the 1400m Tripoli Mountain in cedar valley, there are some 4000 cedar trees all under strict protection.

Travel video about destination Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is a fascinating country in Central America bordered by Nicaragua and Panama, a natural paradise between the Caribbean and the Pacific.Located at more than a thousand metres above sea level, San José, Costa Rica’s capital city, not only boasts an idyllic location in the heart of Central America’s coffee country, but also an enviable climate. The extent to which Costa Rica joins with European tradition can be seen in the Teatro Nacional. The coffee barons, to whom the glorious development of San José is owed, created taxes for the export of coffee beans and thus funded the construction of the magnificent building. In a fertile mountain valley at the foot of a volcano, is Turrialba, a town that radiates a serene calm but once was an important station on the route of the Jungle Train from San José to the Atlantic coast. The crater of the Poas Volcano is surrounded by the dense green of a rainforest and overlooks the north western Meseta Central. Although it is one of the country’s most active volcanoes, it is the most visited, as visitors can go by car almost to the edge of the crater. The Rain Forest Aerial Tram is Costa Rica’s most popular tourist attraction, a ride on an open gondola through the jungle. A journey of discovery amid a canopy of trees, hovering at treetop level through the solitude of nature. Fascinating nature, joie de vivre and colonial history are omnipresent on this land bridge between North and South America, Costa Rica is surely one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Travel video about destination Tel Aviv Beach in Israel.
Where do people act as if insecurity were an unknown word ? Or as if the dangers of war were unimportant ? On the beach at Tel Aviv… Here, whatever happens, even just 48 hours after fighting breaks out with Lebanon, (in September 2006, when we filmed there), Tel Aviv proudly presents itself and its thirties architecture as a modern city, refusing to bear the weight of the past, where Jews and Muslims prefer to cohabit in an intelligent manner. And so the Tel Aviv beach is a place for partying, relaxing and flirting, every minute of the day, as if defying the permanent threats that hang over the country.

Travel video about destination Slovenia.
Half of Slovenia's colorful area is covered by forests, but the country also has another part, a tiny, but very nice coastal area on the Adriatic Sea, with such venetian style cities as Izola, Piran and Portoroz, as well as 2,800 meters high mountains and ski resorts.
The picturesque lakes Bled and Bohinj both lie in a wonderful landscape. The gem of the karstic area is the Postojna cave.
The tiny country has plenty of wild rivers suitable for rafting and healing waters. Golf, mountineering, diving, mountain biking and rock climbing are also warmly welcomed in Slovenia.
The Lippizan is well known all around the globe. All of this is completed by such medieval towns as Maribor, Skofja Loka and Ljubljana, and such romantic castles as the Predjama.

Travel video about destination Macedonia.
Macedonia is a young Balkan republic that is a combination of both Orient and Occident. Skopje is the capital of Macedonia and is located in the Vardar River Valley. It has a dramatic history that spans many thousands of years and forms the junction of two trading routes in southeast Europe that unite both western and eastern civilisation. The legacy of Ottoman times is omnipresent in Skopje. One of the city’s most well-preserved mosques is that of the Gazi-Isisa-Bey Djamia and in the seventeenth century it is believed that there were up to a hundred and twenty mosques in the city. Ottoman rule began in 1392 and lasted for more than five hundred years. Near the village of Glumovo is the Bogorodica Monastery that was founded in the fourteenth century and is active again today. The mediaeval frescos on the walls and ceilings are well preserved after five centuries. Southwest of Prilep is the ancient city of Stibera that is also known as Macedonian Pompeii. It is in a good location on an important road. The last Macedonian king, Perseus, had his military headquarters in Stibera during his struggles with Rome. In the south, just a few kilometres from the Greek border, is Bitola, at the foot of Pelister Mountain and on the edge of the fertile Pelagonija Plains. Buildings with Neo-Baroque and Renaissance facades, huge mosques and splendid diplomatic residences indicate the city’s importance. Macedonia is a wild land full of natural splendour and with a long and dramatic history that is well worth more than just a flying visit. Indeed, this visit also features a Galička wedding that is a fine example of colourful tradition and local culture.

Travel video about destination Venezuela.
Venezuela is a land of beauty and contrast, a country that contains several unique habitats and is one of the last great natural paradises on Earth. It is also home to the legendary Orinoco, the second largest river in South America that also forms a natural border with Columbia. From Puerto Ayacucho we journey to the remote regions of the State Of Amazonas, the country’s most southerly province. Extending for one hundred and eighty thousand square kilometres and with only a hundred thousand inhabitants it is one of the most sparsely populated areas in Venezuela. A short journey by motorboat takes us to the headwaters of the Rio Ventuari. Because the route leads through an extensive maze of canals it is important that this leg of the journey be taken with an experienced guide who is well versed with the local geography. Following a three hour journey on various tributaries of the Orinoco we arrive at the small village of the Makiritare Indians. The natural variety of the underground world of the Los Roques Archipelago manifests itself in the diversity of the numerous coral reefs that grow there. Apart from a particular fire coral each one of them belongs to a single species that is known as the ‘flower animal’. East of the Venezuelan Andes, in the vast plains of the Llanos, the scenery is entirely different. It is almost reminiscent of America’s Old Wild West. The Llaneros is South America’s version of the legendary cowboy and the use of the Llanos as pasture land was introduced in the eighteenth century and covers a third of Venezuela. It is believed that a number of Andalucian families moved into the plains in 1548 as they were more interested in agriculture and cattle breeding than the Conquistadores who sought only gold. There is almost no other country in the world that contains so many diverse and fascinating landscapes as Venezuela, the land of the Indios and Llaneros and a land full of outstanding cultural contrast and natural splendour.

Travel video about destination Botswana.
Botswana is the largest natural paradise in southern Africa. Limited tourism, a combination of untouched wilderness and the comfort and luxury of a handful of safari camps, makes this Africa’s model country. Our journey begins in nearby Zimbabwe that is located close to Botswana’s northern frontier at Victoria Falls that is undoubtedly one of the most impressive natural wonders in the world. Eighty kilometres west and we have crossed the Botswana border and arrive in the first large city in the north of the country, Kasane, that is located on the Chobe River and marks the country’s frontier with Namibia. In addition to growing tourism the fishing industry is also important to Kasane’s economy. The river contains an abundance of fish and so the local fishermen are provided with a good income to support their families. Since 1915 Ma-Un has been Botswana’s main city and until the beginning of the 1990s was only accessible via dusty gravel roads, a border town on the edge of a vast wilderness. The state run Moremi National Park that extends for around a hundred thousand hectares is the largest nature reserve in the Okavango Delta. It is located on Chief’s Island, the largest island in the region. In recent years further private wildlife reserves have been established that are well worth a visit and are also strictly controlled and protected natural habitats. Amid the African wilderness we arrive at a luxurious lodge that is not only the ideal starting point for many safaris but also provides a good degree of relaxation after an exhausting day out. Suddenly two members of the San Tribe approach the lodge. These ‘Bushmen’ will accompany us on our journey into the Kalahari Desert that is also their home. Elephant herds on the Chobe River, the vast wilderness of the Kalahari and the mystique of the Okavango Delta help to make Botswana one of the last great paradises on Earth!

Travel video about destination East Africa.
East Africa is one of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes in the world and its magnificent wilderness and fascinating wildlife is one of the few remaining unspoiled regions on earth. Lake Naivasha is the ideal habitat for both the rare Fish Eagle and African Eagle, thus it is a perfect location from which to observe these fascinating birds. Due to its rich variety of wildlife and the spectacular beauty of its landscape Kenya is one of Africa’s most popular safari destinations. The Massai Mara National Park is located around six hours from Nairobi and is one of the country’s most extraordinary game reserves. Its name indicates the presence of one of Africa’s most colourful tribes, the Massai. The Amboseli National Park also contains many of East Africa’s most important landscapes and represents the magnificence of the African flora and fauna that grows in this relatively small, protected area. The local wildlife stays at a safe distance from the geysers of Lake Bogoria as the steaming hot springs can prove fatal for the flamingos and other water birds that live there. Nevertheless, quite often the bones of dead animals can be seen close to the geysers as some venture too close and are killed by the hot steam. At an altitude of nearly six thousand metres, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. For most of the time its summit is covered by a dense ring of cloud that gives the mountain an air of mystique. There are few other places on earth that offer the huge variety of nature as does the legendary east of the African continent. A magical destination and a wild natural paradise that is second to none!

Travel video about destination Trinidad.
Located to the south of the Caribbean island of Cuba, Trinidad was founded by the Spaniard, Velazquez and in the 18th century the city experienced great wealth and recognition through the cultivation of sugar cane. The exclusive palaces and villas of the sugar barons still leave their mark on the city with tall wooden gates, barred windows and original roof tiles that characterise the style of bygone days. The Palacio Padron is located on the Plaza Mayor, the centre of the city. A few years ago the palace was lovingly restored in painstaking detail and transformed into an archaeological museum. Around the main square the most beautiful palaces stand in rows and are an impressive indicator of the colonial lifestyle enjoyed by the former sugar aristocracy. The slave trade and the cultivation of sugar cane made the island’s inhabitants incredibly wealthy and Trinidad became the most important cultural and trade centre in the whole of Cuba. The former palace of the Cantero sugar barons now houses the Museo De Historia, an impressive building in the Calle Bolivar in which visitors can marvel at old timepieces, porcelain, furniture and valuable crystal chandeliers. The seven storey Torre De Iznaga rises menacingly into the sky, the bells of which once summoned the plantation slaves to work while watchmen surveyed the valley from above because of the fears of the plantation owners who believed that one day the slaves would rebel against them. Splendid exotic beauty in a land situated between sun and socialism, sugar and cigars, rumba and revolution. In Trinidad it is as though everything is in a state of suspended animation waiting to be kissed awake.

Travel video about destination South East Asia.
South East Asia is a fascinating, atmospheric and exotic world full of unspoiled nature and cultural treasures and a region in which both past and present live side by side and unite in a wonderful way. Myanmar, The Land Of Golden Pagodas: for decades the rulers of what was once known as Burma closed the country’s doors to the outside world and many of its fine religious sanctuaries were badly neglected but they have now gradually been given the respect that they deserve. Inlay Lake is home to the Inthas, one of the many tribes that came to Myanmar from various of South East Asia’s neighbouring countries. Throughout the area are the floating plantations of the Inthas on which tomatoes, cucumbers and beans are cultivated. A journey on the Shan State Express provides passengers with a fascinating insight into the life of the Shan people whose lives are dominated by agriculture. The north west of Myanmar is known for its many splendid sacred buildings such as Mingun’s Hsinbyume Pagoda that was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was constructed according to the architectural rules of Hindu Buddhist cosmology and symbolizes the World Mountain of Meru.. One of Taiwan’s most important centres of arts and crafts is located in the west of the island, Lukang, an ancient and idyllic town full of age-old traditions whose large number of beautiful temples is most impressive. In Cambodia and around forty kilometres north of Phnom Penh is the former capital city of Udong. Today only the remains of the city’s former splendid buildings indicate that it was the last centre of Angkor’s power with hundreds of dwellings and temples. The ruins of Ayutthaya indicate the impressive dimensions of the former capital of ancient Thailand and one of the mightiest royal cities in South East Asia.

Travel video about destination Casablanca in Morocco.
Casablanca, a city of many faces, Oriental yet modern. From being a former Berber settlement to today's commercial metropolis, around 80 percent of Moroccan industry is concentrated in Casablanca, the country's financial, technological and commercial centre and also Africa's largest seaport.
Jutting into the sea is the Hassan II Mosque. 'It was He who created Heaven and Earth in six days!', this paragraph from the Koran inspired Hassan II to build his momentous mosque that extends for nine hectares, a superlative construction that could comfortably accommodate the entire Petersdom in Rome.
Casablanca is a large city surrounded by many ancient villages where life has changed little since ancient times.
The Stade Mohammed V is the centre of Casablanca and is located between the old Medina and the new town with its large residential districts. Several administrative buildings, mosques and Art Deco buildings are situated in the vicinity of the Stade Mohammed and there's also a pedestrian-only shopping mall. The head offices of numerous banks, insurance and commercial companies are located within the modern and flamboyant city centre with its imposing skyscrapers.
The souks contain a labyrinth of alleys and each usually has its own specialty. The souks are the perfect place for those who wish to experience typical Morocco as the aromas and sounds of their narrow alleys are far more descriptive than any travel guide.
Casablanca captivates all those who experience it. This former coastal city of seafarers and pirates is today both lively and contemporary with all the atmosphere and flair of a bygone time.

LEAD IN:
Tripoli traders are worried a return of violence to the city could see takings drop even further.
It comes after a double suicide bomb hit an Alawite neighbourhood last weekend, killing nine people.
STORY-LINE:
Lebanese soldiers stand guard at the entrance to Tripoli's Jabal Mohsen neighbourhood.
Security remains tight in this northern part of the city after a double suicide attack killed nine people and wounded over 30 last weekend.
It's the first attack of 2015 - and has successfully shattered the relative calm of this neighbourhood that's lasted almost a year.
A large majority of the residents are Alawite and support the beleaguered Syrian President, and fellow Alawite, Bashar Al-Assad.
It's caused friction between the neighbourhood and the mainly Sunni residents of Bab al-Tabbaneh next door, who back the Sunni-led rebellion.
Lebanon has seen several attacks in recent years linked to the war in neighbouring Syria, which has exacerbated tensions between Lebanon's Sunnis and Shiites.
Tensions are thought to be behind a slump in the city's old market.
Some traders say business has halved.
Hamad Al-Mereibi, says Lebanon's economy is in trouble.
"The business in our city is deteriorated by 40 to 50 percent. It has been like this since 2009, the whole business has been deteriorated it is not only related to the latest bombing. The situation in the city is not good and the proverb says if your neighbour is fine then you are fine. Our neighbours, their country is burning, we are loosing our economy."
Investigators are continuing to work at the scene of the blast site, while funerals have been taking place for the dead in Jabal Mohsen.
Most of the community have turned out to pay their respects, many are still wearing black.
They're trying to come to terms with the aftermath of not one, but two bombs.
After the first bomb detonated, locals rushed to help the wounded, including 60-year-old "Abu Ali" or Issa Khadour who lived a few hundred metres away.
As rescuers searched through the debris, Khadour noticed another man approaching the scene shouting "Allah Akbar."
Witnesses say Khadour wrestled the suspected suicide bomber to the ground, preventing further deaths and injuries.
He's being hailed a hero by many in the neighbourhood.
Khadour's son Khoder says he was helping the crowd alongside his father after the first explosion.
But he lost him after the second explosion and had no idea of what he'd done until he was told by others at the scene.
"My father was at home when the first explosion took place, he went down to help the wounded as we heard a suicide (bomber had) exploded himself. I followed him when he went down but went in different ways I was not aware that in the second explosion my father would be a martyr.
"I was searching for my father when the second explosion happened and I found lot of people gathering at the explosion site, I asked where is my father, they told me your father is the hero."
Syria's al-Qaida affiliate, the Nusra Front, claimed responsibility for Saturday's attack.
But the country's interior minister say the bombings were carried out by the Islamic State group.

A tour operator is determined to keep visitors flowing into Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli.
It's been struggling to attract tourists in the wake of violence, which is being linked to the ongoing Syrian conflict.
A tourist photographs the Al-Mansour mosque in Tripoli, while others gaze at a building riddled with bullet holes.
Groups of visitors like this have become a rare sight in the city due to its reputation for violence.
But Mira Minkara is trying to revive Tripoli - by introducing both overseas and domestic visitors to its rich cultural heritage.
"It is not my job, It is my passion. I love the Old City, I am passionate about this medieval city that stayed all through these years from the Mamluk Ottoman up till now times," she says.
"I love it when people discover my city because everybody in Lebanon especially the Lebanese they say 'Oh don't go to Tripoli, it's not good, it's dangerous, it's bad' so I defied all that and for me I realised slowly that it is an act of resistance."
The conflict in Syria has fuelled tensions between Sunni and Alawite neighbourhoods in the city.
A suicide bombing at a cafe earlier this month killed nine people.
And gunmen from the opposing sects have clashed at least 20 times since 2012.
But this hasn't stopped Minkara's tours.
"I mean last week there was a suicide attack and still I was able to get 40 people in the old city you know and there are ten or twenty on the waiting list. So I see that there is also hunger for people to discover this old city to discover another city that everybody is scared of," she says.
The tour group makes its way through the narrow alleys of the Old City.
Vendors selling clothing, gold jewellery and local delicacies line the route.
It gives the visitors an opportunity to admire the medieval architecture.
Marc Mouarkech, an art gallery director, says: "The city is a bit neglected and though there's, like, four millionaires that came out from this city but I do not know why it is neglected. I do not know why it is. Still, maybe it is part of its charm. But at the same time it feels like the whole country has moved on a bit and Tripoli didn't."
The tourists see the Ottoman Hamam al-Abed, an operational stone bath.
Italian student Guglielmo thinks Tripoli has a different feel to other places in the country.
"It's very different from the other Lebanese city that I saw. So compared to Beirut, Sidon, Sour and Bekaa, it has a more Arabic taste," he says.
And it seems the visitors are warmly welcomed by the locals.
At the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Father Ibrahim Sarrouj says their presence gives him hope.
"A small bird is a sign of spring, we are happy at least we see tourists. I do not know why the tourists companies do not like tourists to come to Tripoli, we do not know why. We are happy if they come and they are welcome."
Minkara is the only tour operator taking foreigners to Tripoli.
She charges around 20 US dollars per person for a city tour.
Former Tourism Minister Fadi Abboud says the number of tourists has dropped from thousands to hundreds in recent years.

The Lebanese army on Saturday intensified patrols in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, following four days of fierce clashes between pro- and anti-Syrian factions that left at least 17 dead.
Hundreds of soldiers, equipped with tanks and military vehicles, have been deployed between the Alawite-dominated Jabal Mohsen and Sunni-dominated Bab al-Tabbaneh neighbourhoods.
The army are tasked with reducing the number of casualties resulting from the use of machine-guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortar bombs, which sparked fires in several buildings.
In spite of the increased military presence, fighting still continued and gunfire could be heard in many neighbourhoods on Saturday.
Ahmed Abboud, one local resident said they didn't know how this could happen.
"Look at us now, we're standing here, but later on they will start shooting at us," he said.
The uprising in neighbouring has exacerbated Sunni-Alawite tensions in Lebanon.
The Alawite sect is an offshoot of Shiite Islam.
Syrian President Bashar Assad is a member of Syria's Alawite minority.
Rebels fighting his regime in Syria are members of the nation's Sunni majority.
Clashes over the past few days in Tripoli represent some of the most serious fighting in Lebanon in several months.
The mostly Sunni city weathered gunbattles in May, when fighting over Syria killed eight people.
Tensions surged Monday. Several attempts to mediate a cease-fire have failed.
In all, 17 people have been killed in the city this week, and more than 100 have been wounded.

The Lebanese Army was forced to withdraw from Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city on Tuesday after Syria's conflict spilled across the border.
Security officials said clashes between supporters and opponents of Assad have left two dead and as many as 45 wounded.
The latest clashes were between gunmen from the Sunni neighbourhood of Jabal Mohsen and the next door district of Bab Tabbaneh, which is mostly populated by followers of the Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.
Syria's President Bashar Assad is a member of Syria's Alawite minority, while rebels fighting his regime are predominantly Sunnis.
The army said the injured include nine Lebanese soldiers in the fighting that broke out on Monday night in the port city of Tripoli.
Army units in armoured vehicles were forced to withdraw on Tuesday afternoon after coming under a hail of machinegun fire and rocket-propelled grenade attacks after they had tried to intervene to subdue the violence.
The mostly Sunni city also saw gun battles in May, when fighting over Syria killed eight people.
The streets around the two districts were sealed off by roadblocks to keep people away from the line of snipers' fire, but life went on normally in the rest of the city despite the occasional sound of gunfire.

Gun battles took place in Tripoli, northern Lebanon, on Tuesday morning following night clashes that left two people killed and more than 20 wounded.
Tripoli, which is about 25 kilometres (16 miles) from the Syrian border, has seen regular clashes between Sunnis opposing Syrian President Bashar Assad and pro-Assad Alawites.
Security sources said the fighting began with sporadic gunfire at around 3:30 a.m. (0130GMT) on Tuesday, but intensified around 8 a.m. (0600GMT) in the morning with exchanges of machine gun fire and rocket-propelled grenades between rival parties in Tripoli's Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh neighbourhoods.
The Lebanese army intervened to try to stop the fighting by firing towards both sides on Monday evening.
This led to a brief lull in the shooting before the fresh clashes started on Tuesday morning.
The anti-Assad Sunni stronghold of Bab al-Tabbaneh and the Alawite-dominated pro-Assad neighbourhood of Jabal Mohsen have witnessed recurring clashes in recent months.
The Syrian uprising has exacerbated Sunni-Alawite tensions in Lebanon.
Lebanon and Syria share a complex web of political and sectarian ties and rivalries, which are easily enflamed.
Syria is overwhelmingly Sunni, but the country's President Bashar Assad and the ruling elite belong to the minority Alawite sect.

Protesters burned tires and set up roadblocks around Lebanon on Saturday in a sign of boiling anger over a massive car bomb that killed a top security official and seven other people a day earlier - a devastating attack that threatened to bring Syria's civil war to Lebanon.
Lebanon's government declared a national day of mourning on Saturday for the victims which included Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan, head of the intelligence division of Lebanon's domestic security forces.
Officials said protesters in mostly Sunni Muslim areas closed roads in Beirut, the northern city of Tripoli and several towns in the eastern Bekaa Valley.
In the southern coastal city of Sidon, angry protesters blocked roads and set fire to tyres, causing black smoke to hamper drivers.
Angry residents in Tripoli in the north blocked roads around the city as the military deployed reinforcements in the area.
The highway linking central Beirut with the city's international airport was closed, as well as the highway which links the capital with Syria, officials said on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.
Friday's explosion in Beirut's mainly Christian Achrafieh district wounded dozens.
The explosion has raised fears of a possible return to political assassinations which plagued the country between 2004 and 2008.

STORYLINE:
At least eight people were reportedly wounded in clashes overnight on July 27th-28th between Sunni gunmen in Bab al-Tabbaneh and their Alawite rivals in the Jabal Mohsen neighbourhood in Tripoli North of Lebanon.
Alawite snipers in buildings fired at groups of Sunni gunmen hidden behind makeshift barricades.
The Lebanese Army mounted patrols in the area and fired warning shots in an attempt to separate the armed groups of fighters.
Both neighbourhoods have witnessed recurring clashes in the past months over divisions in their support for the 16-month uprising in Syria.
***
The Lebanese Army was forced to withdraw from Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city on August 21st after Syria's conflict spilled across the border.
The army said the injured include nine Lebanese soldiers in the fighting that broke out on the night of August 21st in the port city of Tripoli.
Army units in armoured vehicles were forced to withdraw on August 21st after coming under a hail of machinegun fire and rocket-propelled grenade attacks after they had tried to intervene to subdue the violence.
The mostly Sunni city also saw gun battles in May, when fighting over Syria killed eight people.
The streets around the two districts were sealed off by roadblocks to keep people away from the line of snipers' fire, but life went on normally in the rest of the city despite the occasional sound of gunfire.
***
The Lebanese army on August 25th intensified patrols in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, following four days of fierce clashes between pro- and anti-Syrian factions that left at least 17 dead.
In spite of the increased military presence, fighting still continued and gunfire could be heard in many neighbourhoods on August 25th.

Gun shots and explosions reverberated throughout a residential neighborhood in the Lebanese port city of Tripoli that left at least 10 people dead.
[Notes:Rooftop shot of militants using a grenade]
According to security officials, Islamic militants fired at Lebanese soldiers in the Abu Samra neighborhood of Tripoli, marking a new escalation of violence in the ongoing conflict.
Officials add that at least six militants were killed, along with a Lebanese soldier and police officer and two civilians were killed.
[Notes:Shot of police and sirens]
The violence came on the heels of earlier fighting at a northern Palestinian refugee camp. Three Lebanese soldiers were killed and a fourth critically injured while attempting to dismantle a bomb placed by al-Qaida-inspired-Islamic militants.

The clashes in a Tripoli neighborhood Saturday night and again Sunday morning bring the number of people killed to at least 160, including 80 soldiers and 60 militants.
The fighting erupted May 20th.
[Notes:Shot of white smoke rising]
The current internal violence is the worst Lebanon has seen since its 15- year civil war concluded in 1990.

Imagine just for a couple of seconds that your everyday life is burdened with horror and violence! How is the feeling? Yes, it is incredibly unbelievable. But, we do have the same thing in today’s real world!! In Tripoli, some 60,000 Alawites survive in Jabal Mohsen, a district built on the mountain in the center of the city. It is one of the poorest and most isolated areas in the whole of Lebanon. In this district, there is no contact with the rest of the city for fear of retaliations. The Alawites of Jabal Mohsen are mostly loyal supporters of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The conflict in Syria has led to an escalation of the armed conflict between the Islamic extremists from Bab el-Tebaneh, a neighboring district, and the Alawites from Jabal Mohsen.
During the battles between Jabal Mohsen and Bab el Tabaneh the area remains closed and there is no option to move in or out. In Jabal Mohsen, there are no hospitals, and during the conflict, most of the injured must wait in the small clinic of the quarter until the Red Cross take them out to a safe area with the help of the Lebanese Army. The remainders of the conflict are visible on every house in Jabal Mohsen, especially in the zone that delimits the border between the two neighbourhoods. The lives of the inhabitants of the front line are conditioned by the state of the conflict: they live in fear of losing their houses, but also their lives by Islamic extremists and Takfiris from both al-Nusra Front and ISIL.
In spite of everything, the Alawites of Jabal Mohsen are still Lebanese, like their neighbors and enemies, the Islamic extremists of the Bab el-Tebaneh district; and despite everything, life still goes on in Jabal Mohsen.
