The Interview Activist 'sends DVDs into N Korea by balloon' For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS A South Korean activist says he has flown thousands of copies of controversial Sony film The Interview over the North Korean border. Lee Min-bok said he had carried out the launches at night four times since January, most recently on Saturday. The Seth Rogen comedy, about a fictional CIA plot to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, enraged Pyongyang. Sony initially pulled the film after a hacking attack and threats to attack cinemas which were screening it. But it changed its mind and gave the film a limited cinema release after being accused of responding to an attack on free speech. The FBI says North Korea was behind the hack and threats, though it denies this. Mr Lee, a defector from the North, said he had tied the DVDs to balloons along with bundles of US dollars and leaflets criticising Mr Kim's regime. He told AFP news agency: "I launched thousands of copies and about a million leaflets on Saturday, near the western part of the border." He said the launches were all done in remote areas and without publicity but that the police "would have no right to stop me". "'You know what's more destructive than a nuclear bomb? Words,' says North Korean leader Kim Jong-un (Randall Park), with a tear in his eye, in The Interview. It's a prophetic line in this otherwise limp comedy, which has stirred up a world of controversy it doesn't earn." Sara Stewart, New York Post Mr Lee told CNN, which joined him on Saturday's launch, that he had not laughed at The Interview and found it vulgar. But he said the North "hates this film because it shows Kim Jong-un as a man, not a God" and that he wanted to "tell the truth" to North Koreans. Any North Korean who had access to a DVD player and was found to have watched the film would likely face a lengthy sentence in a prison camp. South Korean activists have repeatedly carried out balloon drops across the border of material which they say shows the reality of life outside the restrictive country, in the hope of encouraging North Koreans to reject propaganda and stand up to their leadership. The North has demanded the South stop such launches, saying they are provocative. Its border guards have in the past tried to shoot down the balloons. But while South Korea says the activity is unhelpful - and potentially places people living near the border in danger - it says its citizens are entitled to distribute their opinions.

France on Tuesday declassified documents in the presidential archives relating to the 1994 Rwandan genocide, in which Kigali accuses Paris of having an indirect role. A decision to declassify the papers was signed on Tuesday and concerns "documents in the Elysee relating to Rwanda between 1990 and 1995," spanning the genocide which claimed at least 800,000 lives, a source in President Francois Hollande's entourage said. "The president had announced a year ago that France must provide proof of transparency and facilitate remembrance of this period," the source said. The papers, which include documents from diplomatic and military advisers ad well as minutes from ministerial and defence meetings, will be available to both researchers and victims' associations, the French presidency said. Ties between France and Rwanda are strained as Rwandan President Paul Kagame accuses Paris of complicity in the genocide because of its support of the Hutu nationalist government that carried out the mass killings, mainly of ethnic Tutsis. Paris has repeatedly denied the accusations and insists that French forces had worked to protect civilians. Relations between both countries were completely frozen from 2006 to 2009. The genocide was sparked by the ouster of the country's president, a Hutu.

A South Carolina police officer who shot and killed an unarmed man Saturday is being charged with murder, officials announced today. Police cited witness video that appears to show the moment when the officer fatally shot a driver whom he had pulled over this weekend, and the victim's family attorney, who gave the video to ABC News, believes it could prove that the officer used excessive force. North Charleston officer Michael Slager will now be charged with murdering Walter 'Lamar' Scott, 50, who died shortly after the Saturday morning incident. A murder conviction in the state could lead to the death penalty or life in prison, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The two videos that Scott family attorney Chris Stewart says were recorded by a bystander, whose name has not been released, appear to show the moments when Scott begins to run away from the officer. While the officer’s stun gun is not visible in the video, what appears to be a string is visible stretching from Scott to Officer Slager, where it was apparently attaching the stun gun to his clothing. Scott is seen running away from Slager as the officer proceeds to fire eight successive shots in Scott's direction before Scott falls to the ground. "I can tell you that as a result of that video and the bad decision made by our officer he will be charged with murder and that's not something that we like to hear," Mayor R. Keith Summey said at a press conference this evening. The county coroner’s office did not immediately return ABC News’ calls about how many times Scott was hit, but Stewart told ABC News that of the eight fired shots, four hit Scott in the back and one hit him in the ear. The attorney said two of the shots were fatal. Slager is shown in the video approaching Scott, who is face down on the ground, and then putting handcuffs on his wrists behind his back. Slager then walks away from the body and another officer arrives on the scene, appearing to bend down and take Scott's pulse as Slager comes back toward the scene and talks to the second officer "The video is very demonstrative of exactly what happened," Summey said. "Without the video, and that was the only witness there was, it would be difficult to ascertain directly what did occur. We want to thank the young person who came forward with the video because it helped us to resolve exactly what did occur." The police incident report states that Slager called in a traffic stop in the area and then advised officers that he was in a foot pursuit of the driver of the vehicle. Slager then said he had deployed his Taser and requested backup units to the scene, according to the police report. During his next call on the police radio, Slager said: "Shots fired and the subject is down, he took my taser,” the police report notes.
