Television is an American rock band, formed in New York City in 1973 and considered influential in the development of punk and alternative music.
Television was an early fixture of CBGB and the 1970s New York rock scene. Although they recorded in a stripped-down, guitar-based manner similar to their punk contemporaries, the band's music was by comparison clean, improvisational, and technically proficient, drawing influence from avant-garde jazz and 1960s rock. The group's debut album, Marquee Moon, is often considered one of the defining releases of the punk era.
Television's roots can be traced to the teenage friendship between Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell. The duo met at Sanford School in Hockessin, Delaware, from which they ran away. Both moved to New York, separately, in the early 1970s, aspiring to be poets.
Their first group together was the Neon Boys, consisting of Verlaine on guitar and vocals, Hell on bass and vocals and Billy Ficca on drums. The group lasted from late 1972 to late 1973. A 7-inch record featuring "That's All I Know (Right Now)" and "Love Comes in Spurts" was released in 1980.

Television - Marquee Moon 1977 Marquee Moon Synopsis: Somewhere the line was inscribed in asphalt between punk and jam bands, and Television crossed it valiantly. At the forefront of this is their track Marquee Moon from the album of the same name. With the twin attack of Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd on guitar comes a rhythmical assault of punk that all gets turned on its head at the epic climax of this song. In concert, the band has sometimes extended the song to as long as fifteen minutes. Lyrics: I remember how the darkness doubled I recall lightning struck itself. I was listening listening to the rain I was hearing hearing something else. Life in the hive puckered up my night, the kiss of death, the embrace of life. There I stand neath the Marquee Moon Just waiting, Hesitating.....

Richard Lloyd made his name as the guitarist for the underground rock band 'Television'. Having joined the band (Richard Hell - Bass, Vocals, Tom Verlaine - Guitar, Vocals, Billy Ficca - Drums) in 1973, he and Television manager Terry Ork discovered CBGB the following year - the club out of which American Punk music developed. Signed to Elektra in 1977, the band recorded two seminal albums - 'Marquee Moon' and 'Adventure', and despite the stature of these works now, at the time they failed to break Television into the big time, and they disbanded in 1978. In this interview Lloyd discusses the New York underground scene in the 1970s, Andy Warhol, CBGB and the host of acts who emerged there (including The Ramones), his time in Television and the UK Punk scene they inspired.

From a 1974 rehearsal when Richard Hell was in the band. Check out this other equally fine, early, rare Television recording, also from '74, "Horizontal Ascension": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tMSNmKV1sk Some (e.g. me) think "Horizontal Ascension" surpasses "I'm Gonna Find You." There are worthwhile early Television songs recorded that Richard Hell co-wrote & sings. It's too bad every time I try uploading any of them, they get spiked by a copyright infringement claim by "Richard Meyers" (Hell's real name). Bloody Hell! A bootleg called "Poor Circulation" contains many of these early, unreleased Television songs, including "I'm Gonna Find You," and including Hell-sung songs. It's available as a direct download in FLAC format here: http://www.4shared.com/zip/TLfBIhTu/Poor_Circulation...
From the masterpiece "Marquee Moon" a fantastic version of the title track, a true classic. Live from Florence, Tuscany.

The Lucy Mae Band is a triplet of talent. They consist of a bassist, a guitar / saxophone player, and Lucy Mae herself on vocals. This performance also features fellow artist WherezNeekz on vocals. The music is easy listening, lulling you into a mellow mood. The lyrics, however, give you something to ponder, if you care to listen.
Richard Hell is one of the founding fathers of Punk Music. Born Richard Meyers in Kentucky, after dropping out of school he moved to New York with literary ambitions. In 1972 he formed the band 'The Neon Boys' with his schoolfriend Tom Miller and drummer Billy Ficca. The following year the band became 'Television', with Meyers and Miller assuming the names Richard Hell and Tom Verlaine, and they recruited young guitarist Richard Lloyd. Television discovered the legendary CBGB, the club out of which American Punk music developed, in 1974. During his time in Television, Hell also developed a unique look, wearing battered and torn clothing, which was the key visual inspiration for the Sex Pistols. He left Television in 1975 and joined former New York Dolls Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan in ...

Television, say you love me
Television, say you care
Loneliness is my profession
Show me those who are not there
Television, murmur to me
Deep inside my room tonight
You're the devil's fishbowl, honey
I undress before your lies
Your lies...
Your lies...
Television, open to me
My remote is in my hand
I can dim you to a red light
Honey, try to understand
I'm there...
So there...
