'I was victimized and vilified': Mariah Carey says she was upset 'people didn't understand' what she went through over NYE mishap
She started 2017 off on a shaky note when she walked off the stage in Times Square after a syncing issue left her red-faced.
And on Friday, Mariah Carey attempted to set the record straight again in an interview with the Associated Press, explaining that what happened to her was unfair and that she was 'victimized and vilified.'
The 46-year-old crooner was upset about 'the fact that people didn't understand' what she went through during her New Year's Eve performance fiasco.

Opening up: Mariah Carey explained that what happened to her during her NYE performance was unfair and that she was 'victimized and vilified
'It's like I'm the only one that has to make five million comebacks' Mariah said after claiming that people didn't understand what happened on the night in Times Square
She began to discuss her Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve performance: 'I didn't obsess over the New Year's Eve thing, I mean, I was upset about the fact that people didn't understand.
Mariah recalled the moment that her ear piece failed.
'So imagine, [the ear piece is] no longer there, so you can't hear the music, so if you can't hear it, how can you sing to it?
'And if your mic is also effed up, you can't hear, sing... all you can hear is the audience screaming, and a delayed musical moment and they're already a few beats behind you.'
'How can you sing to it?' Mariah recalled the moment that her ear piece failed
Getting it together: The We Belong Together songstress looked gorgeous and put-together, her honey-coloured locks styled into center-parted relaxed curls
She continued, exasperated: 'If my ears were in, maybe I could have heard music and done a few ad-libs and the show would have gone on. It just caused me a wreck of a New Year's Eve, and that's fine as long as they didn't ruin any body else's holiday, that's fine.'
The singer then belted out musically: 'What do they want me to do?'
'It's like I'm the only one that has to make five million comebacks,' she expressed, comparing it to other artists' comebacks, which she believed are easier.
'For me, there's different rules. I don't know why, it's not okay that I was victimized and vilified by the situation.'
The singer then belted out musically: 'What do they want me to do?'
In the same interview, Mariah also confirmed her relationship with backup dancer Bryan Tanaka, whom she posted a steamy Instagram picture with that saw the couple drinking champagne in a tub on Valentine's Day, by referring to the younger man as her 'boyfriend.'
'I'm just going to be like, "I really don't talk about my personal life." Because that's what I used to do and it really worked for a minute, back, a while ago.
'I just don't feel comfortable talking about my personal life...Me and my boyfriend don't want to do that.'

Carey, who was previously married to rapper and comedian Nick Cannon, also touched on the subject of her twins, whom she shares with Cannon.
'Roc and Roe do get to come,' she began, referring to her boy and girl Moroccan and Monroe by their nicknames, 'They love to go onstage and actually they are very musical already.'
Mariah recently performed a redemption show live on Jimmy Kimmel, where she sang her 1990 hit Vision of Love and I Don't, a new collaboration with YG.
