His project, called Under Black Light, consists of 'bodyscapes' of spectacular natural phenomena such as African sunsets, tropical oceans during rainstorm, and mountain ranges under moonlight. In more otherworldly, eerie designs the artist depicts cosmic scenes of stars, galaxies and shimmering auroras. ...read

Artist, 24, creates stunning sculptures using beaches as her blank canvas just one month after picking up a rake for first time
Chloe Dickey drew a huge floral design on a Port Macquarie beach on Saturday in under two hours. The 24-year-old from Lake Cathie, NSW, works in the wet sand at low tide meaning her drawings don't stick around for long when the waves roll in.

Prisoner (Blue Note)
Prolific country-rocker Adams once made three albums in one year and his quality control inevitably suffered. Prisoner, happily, finds the US singer-songwriter realising the rich promise of early solo records Heartbreaker and Gold. Inspired by the end of his marriage to singer Mandy Moore, its an honest account of his emotional torment. Titles such as Broken Anyway tell their own story, and Prisoner matches its heartbreak lyrics with power chords, crashing drums and robust melodies.

Highway Queen (New West)
Posing astride a Texas Longhorn cow on the sleeve of this confessional third album, Nikki Lane looks every inch the country outsider. But the Nashville rebel is poised for a mainstream breakthrough with Highway Queen. A tough-talking wildheart in the tradition of Loretta Lynn, she celebrates love on the run with the title track before addressing small-town rumour-mongering on Big Mouth. Her penchant for dirty, Stones-like blues-rock could make her the new face of outlaw country.

Under Stars (Virgin EMI)
Ive got the scars that prove Ive been there, declares Amy Macdonald on her first record in four years. The Glasgow singers 2007 debut sold three million, but her fortunes have since faded. The intervening decade has seen her gain experience plus an armful of tattoos and she comes out fighting on Under Stars, combining simmering electronics and polished guitar. Her voice retains an alluring catch, but Under Stars is too slight to withstand some grandiose arrangements.

A Girl, A Bottle, A Boat (Columbia)
Train began as rootsy, heartland rockers, with frontman Pat Monahan tapping into his inner Bruce Springsteen on 2001s Drops Of Jupiter. The San Francisco quintet now look more to OneRepublic and Maroon 5 for inspiration, and this tenth album is a poppy affair. Play That Song recycles American standard Heart And Soul. The lively Drink Up is about seizing the moment. Latin beats and cod reggae are embraced, but the prevailing sense of fun feels forced..
★★
SweetSexySavage (Atlantic)
Kehlani Parrish was a member of teenage girl group PopLyfe, but the Californian uses this debut to consolidate her switch to soul-baring solo act. The singer, 21, turns the insecurities of a troubled upbringing into fierce, and occasionally coarse, pop. The candid R&B; of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott are obvious touchstones. Just dont expect her to help with the domestic chores. I dont care to do the dishes, I aint no wifey, she sings on Do U Dirty.
★★★
Bloom (157)
British-based New Yorker Bryden was planning a career in opera until she heard Janis Joplin, but the singer and radio presenters fifth album, out on her own label, owes more to the phrasing of Joni Mitchell and the soft, smart songs of Carly Simon. In The Morning could be a Coldplay piano ballad, but Brydens best tunes reveal a more personal touch: Lie To You offers sisterly advice to a friend; The Olive Tree is a sentimental paean to motherhood.
