Greetings All:
This flyer focuses on a local event (California's Bay Area) and I'm hoping everyone in this
vicinity will print out the flyers and spread the word (I.e., become one of the organizers
or at least one of the helpers/supporters). But I'm sending this to my entire global list
to inspire similar movement in your communities since prisons are ubiquitous in Amerika.
Abolish the prison system! Abolish the death penalty! Free 'em all!

Cindy was a good person, a hard worker. She joined the BPP in SF. She worked out
of the Fillmore office and often was a duty rider. She died in Richmond in a car
accident that took her life.
She was a beautiful person always had a smile and was soft spoken.

Hey BJ,
When I was in Sweden my business contact had googled me and found out I was a Panther. ( I was in 4 countries in 10 days on this last trip and only spoke about the Party in Amsterdam and Finland, so it was a surprise when he mentioned it because I was meeting him on other business).
He told me about a TV program in Sweden about the Party and the Black Movement and sent me this link. Pass it on to the comrades. I will give you a post on my talks in Amsterdam. When I got to one of the events in a black community community center they had copies of the Panther Paper lining the walls. I'll get back to you soon with some photos as well.
One of my talks will be posted on utube and I will let you know when that happens.
Peace

This trip to the center was very insightful we had a chance to enact with young people and learn the history of their community. The visit to the Angola Center give us a chance to hear young Hip Hop artist, they have a recording studio in the center. The art work is done by young artists from the area.

"Photo showing: Gail with display on Community Control, the election was held April 6 1971. Gail worked on the Community Control of Police Petition back then, while working out of the NCCF office in Berkeley. The West Berkeley Office of the BPP worked closely with the NCCF to help gather 15,000 signatures to place the measure on the ballot."
Monday, November 15th was Melvin Dickson's Birthday, comrade turns the magic 70 today. A celebration
was held at the Commemorators newspaper office in Berkeley. Panthers and Cubs, activist, community
workers were there to show Mellow Mel much love. I was glad to see Melvin Newton and family there.
Brother Emory Douglas, Comrade Lorraine Banks and daughter Neome, Raymond Joe, Terry Cotton and wife
Maria, Steve McCutchen plus a few comrades I missed attended. People were still coming as I was
leaving, there was plenty of food.
Melvin joined the BPP in Seattle, worked there and transfer to the Bay area in 1972. He worked at the
Panther Community School and help founder the Commemorator Newspaper in 1989 and became it's editor.
The newspaper is part of the Panther Legacy it still coming out, next issue is due out December 1.

Comrades and Friends:
I have sad news to report. One of our Panther Cubs has fallen - Adele Mott, daughter of Jeannie and
James Mott. Many of you know James from his membership in the BPP.
I have known Adele since I moved to Sacramento back in the early 1980's when she was about 8 or 9 years
old. I have always called her by her family nickname "Pooh Bunny" or just Pooh. She was a beautiful
person full of energy. She was involved in the church with her Mom Jeannie. She was involved in modeling
and participating in plays and was a cheer leader for her Junior High school and was involved with other
community events. She was the pride of the BPP Legacy, came to the 40th yr reunion in Oakland and had a
great time.
Adele has been struggling with her illness over the pass few years and maintained a very positive attitude until the end, she will be missed by all. I attended the service for her and the place was packed and not everyone could fix into the church.

As usual the press always gets things Wrong. Stephen was NOT the only photographer.
He was one of the first, but the Party developed our own Photographers.

The Symbol representing the BPP belongs to Clark Atlanta, Ga. It was their mascot.
In the early 1960's SNCC's leadership in Lowndes Co. chose this symbol to be placed
on voter registration forms. Ruth Howard Chambers traced the Clark Atlanta's Panther Mascot.
Years later Vincent Lynche brought the symbol to San Francisco where it was adopted by the
Northern California Black Panther Party which then split becoming the BPP and Soul students
Advisory Council. The Symbol is public domain and cannot be claimed by any individual.

This is just a little note to inform you that Kathleen's Mother, Ms. Juette
Johnson Neal, made her transition this afternoon. Kathleen said that she left this
earth surrounded by Family and Loved Ones.
On the horizons of her 80's when we first met, she glowed in her beauty. She
exuded life and her voice was one of grace and calmness, all of which I took to
represent the strong Black womanspirit of the Sistas of her generations. We were
her daughter's friends, how accepting and understood she made all of us feel
in her presence. Ms. Juett ...Presente.

In the spirit of Kwanzaa. Attached you will find the latest edition of Positive Action the newsletter for the All African People's Revolutionary Party (A-APRP). This edition is a tribute to the 40 year commemoration of the founding of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (October 1966 - 2006), but this isn't just a nostalgic piece. Instead, its an effort to connect the Panther legacy with the international Pan-Africanist struggle for justice today! So, the issue contains articles about the FBI's role in destabilizing the Panthers and how the American government still employs the same tactics, just under a different name; the Patriot Act. There is also articles about the legacy of Kwame Ture and a very important article written by a leading A- APRP member from Ghana, West Africa, about Kwame Nkrumah's efforts to build the Convention People's Party in Ghana and how imperialism sabotaged that effort submitted by Ahjamu Umi.
Angela Davis and Elbert"Big Man" Howard at the Alameda County Courthouse. They were part of the Essence Magazine photo shoot for the 40th yr Reunion and Celebration.

It's time to act to free Mumia Abu-Jamal, an award-winning journalist and former member of the Black Panther Party, who has been confined to death row in Pennsylvania for a crime he did not commit for nearly a quarter of a century. We cannot rely on the courts--which have refused to hear mountains of evidence that could free Mumia. We must rebuild the movement to free Mumia.
The Labor Action Committee To Free Mumia Abu-Jamal is calling for a united front rally, to be held at the Alameda County Court house in Oakland CA this year (date to be discussed), around the following points of unity --
MUMIA IS INNOCENT! FREE MUMIA! END THE RACIST DEATH PENALTY!
All groups and individuals who agree with the above points and are interested in building such a rally, are invited to participate.

The Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center is still open after more than 35 years and is still serving the community.
This clinic was started by the Seattle Chapter of the BPP back in 1969. First named the Sidney Miller clinic after a party member who was killed in 1969, then later changed to the Charles Drew Clinic.
Carolyn Downs worked at the clinic and died of beast cancer. After she passed away, the clinic name would change again to be named after Carolyn Downs for her hard work and devotion to serving the people. Many people helped the clinic grow and develop.
Dr. Green was the founding doctor and comrade Leon (Valentine) Hobbs later would bring his skills to the George Jackson Medical Clinic in Berkeley.
