Travel video about destination Cairo in Egypt. Cairo is a world metropolis and tantamount to being an open-air museum. The Nile divides it in two and the centre of the city contains modern shops and office buildings in close proximity to medieval churches and ancient mosques. The Khan el-Khalili bazaar is like something from a bygone age and where the Orient combines with the Middle Ages, 'A Thousand And One Nights' amid Islamic Cairo. Goods inspired by pharaohs Tutankhamen and Nefertiti are in constant demand and it's where haggling is the norm. The bazaar is a colorful place with smoking hookahs, exotic carpets and musical instruments as well as a huge array of herbs and spices. Abu Serga is the city's oldest church and dates back to Fatima times. It was built on the ruins of an even older church in the Coptic district of Cairo. The three-aisled basilica was founded by Roman Christians at the end of the 4th century. Built in 1902, the Egyptian Museum's 150,000 exhibits amount to being one of the greatest historical collections in the world. When both the Greek and Roman civilizations had reached the zenith of their power, Egypt already had a history that dated back almost 3,000 years. In 1830, King Mohammed Ali had a mosque built and named it after himself but it is now more commonly known as the Alabaster Mosque. It was 18 years in construction and was built on the site of a former Mamluk Palace. Egypt and its capital of Cairo is the oldest cultural land on Earth. A country that impresses with both its 5,000 years of history and lively modern spirit.

For more information visit http://www.asiatravel.com Cairo (Arabic: القاهرة al-Qāhira) is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab World.[1] Nicknamed "The City of a Thousand Minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture, Cairo has long been a center of the region's political and cultural life. Even before Cairo was established in the tenth century, the land composing the present-day city was the site of national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo is also associated with Ancient Egypt due to its proximity to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids in nearby Giza. Egyptians today often refer to Cairo as Maṣr (Arabic: مصر), the Egyptian Arabic pronunciation of the Arabic name for Egypt itself, emphasizing the city's continued role in Egyptian influence. Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Arab World, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city, and the Arab League has been based in Cairo for most of its existence. With a population of 6.8 million[2] spread over 214 square kilometers (83 sq mi), Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. With an additional ten million inhabitants just outside the city, Cairo resides at the center of the largest metropolitan area in Africa and the eleventh-largest urban area in the world.[1] Cairo, like many large cities in developing countries, suffers from high levels of pollution and traffic, but its metro currently the only on the African continent also ranks among the fifteen busiest in the world,[3] with over 700 million passenger rides annually. The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum, is home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. It has 136,000 items on display, with many more hundreds of thousands in its basement storerooms Khan el-Khalili is an ancient shopping area, nothing less, but some of the shops have also their own little factories or workshops. The suq (which is the Arabic name for bazaar, or market) dates back to 1382, when Emir Djaharks el-Khalili built a big caravanserai (or khan) right here. A caravanserai was a sort of hotel for traders, and usually the focal point for economic activity for any surrounding area. This caravanserai is still there, you just ask for the narrow street of Sikka Khan el-Khalili and Badestan. The part of Cairo that contains Coptic Cairo and Fostat, which contains the Coptic Museum, Babylon Fortress, Hanging Church, the Greek Church of St. George, many other Coptic churches, the Ben Ezra Synagogue and Amr ibn al-'As Mosque. The Cairo Tower is a free-standing concrete TV tower in Cairo. It stands in the Zamalek district on Gezira Island in the Nile River, in the city centre. At 187 meters, it is 43 meters higher than the Great Pyramid of Giza, which stands some 15 km to the southwest. Over the ages, and as far back as four thousand years, Egypt stood as the land where civilizations have always met.[citation needed] The Pharaohs together with the Greeks and the Romans have left their imprints here. Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula, led by Amr ibn al-A'as, introduced Islam into Egypt. Khedive Mohammad Ali, with his Albanian family roots, put Egypt on the road to modernity. If anything, the cultural mix in this country is natural, given its heritage. Egypt can be likened to an open museum with monuments of the different historical periods on display everywhere. Travel video about destination Cairo in Egypt. Cairo is a cultural melting pot and with a population of sixteen million it is the largest metropolis on the African continent. The Egyptian people refer to their capital city as Um Al Dunya, ‘Mother of the World’. The history of the Sankt Sergius Church dates back to Abu Serga in the 5th century A.D. Legend has it that it was built on the site where the Holy Family once sought refuge. Thus, the richly decorated church is a popular Christian place of pilgrimage and is situated in Fustat in the middle of Koptic, the oldest district in Cairo. The spacious Mamelucks Necropolis is unique within the Islamic world. Here, instead of conventional graves, entire houses were built for the dead. Within the necropolis the mosques and mausoleums of the Mameluck sovereigns are particularly interesting. Built in 1900, each day the Egypt Museum attracts thousands of visitors who come to experience for themselves the legendary treasures of ancient history that comprise more than 120,000 different objects from 4500 years of Egyptian history, including the unique Tut-Ench-Amun exhibition. Cairo really does strive to do justice to its name, Mother of the World. After all, it was this city that united the glory of the Pharaos with the Early Christian and Islamic worlds..

Travel video about destination Kenya. Founded by Alexander The Great in 332 B.C., the city of Alexandria is located in the Nile Delta and it was here that Caesar and Mark Anthony fell under Cleopatra’s spell.Cairo is Africa’s largest city and the heart of the Arab world, extreme poverty living next to opulent wealth, and modern, Western boutiques next to ancient souks. The Cairo Museum is home to the most extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities, including the golden mask and tomb of Tutankamun. Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive three pyramids of Gisa. The Cheops Pyramid, the world’s largest single construction, took four hundred thousand workers twenty years to build. It weighs as much as all the cathedrals in Europe put together and spans an area of 53,000 square metres - the height of a fifty storey skyscraper. In the middle of today’s modern city of Luxor, known as the ‘Capital City Of The Pharaohs’, the Luxor Temple stretches along the eastern banks of the Nile and, not far away, the temple complex of Karnak and the Amun Temple. 67 kilometres from Luxor, on the western bank of the Nile, lies the Temple Of Dendera, the most important place of worship for the love goddess, HATHOR, whose heavenly appearance was portrayed by the body of a cow. At Aswan, the landscape of the Nile is enchanting, but it is the stone temples of Abu Simbel that take one back to ancient Egypt, land of the Pharaohs, and archaeological paradise.

http://www.egypttourinfo.com/cairo-travel.html Cairo, Egypt is a large city and our Cairo travel guide allows you inside information on the best places to visit while you're in Egypt's bustling capital city.
Cairo Travel Guide - Cairo (pronounced KY-roh ; Arabic: القاهرة al-Qāhirah ) is the capital of Egypt and, with a total population of Greater Cairo metropolitan area in excess of 16 million people, one of the largest cities in both Africa and the Middle East (the regions which it conveniently straddles). It is also the 19th largest city in the world, and among the world's most densely populated cities. On the Nile river, Cairo is famous for its own history, preserved in the fabulous medieval Islamic city and Coptic sites in Old Cairo. The Egyptian Museum in the city centre is a must see, with its countless Ancient Egyptian artefacts, as is shopping at the Khan al-Khalili bazaar. No trip to Cairo would be complete without a visit to the Giza Pyramids and to the nearby Saqqara Pyramid Complex, where visitors will see Egypt's first step pyramid built by the architect Imhotep for the third dynasty pharaoh Djoser. Though firmly attached to the past, Cairo is also home to a vibrant modern society. The Midan Tahrir area situated in downtown Cairo, built in the 19th century under the rule of Khedive Ismail, has strived to be a "Paris on the Nile". There also are a number of more modern suburbs including Ma'adi and Heliopolis, while Zamalek is a quiet area on Gezira Island, with upmarket shopping. Cairo is best in the fall or spring, when the weather isn't so hot. A felucca ride on the Nile is a good way to escape from the busy city, as is a visit to Al-Azhar Park. Since the revolution in 2011 and the ongoing counter-revolution, tourists have fled Cairo to a large extent. This has created an opportunity for unique experiences of Cairo's and Egypt's cultural treasures without the crowds. Finding yourself alone inside a pyramid is now a real possibility. Prices are also lower. Enjoy Your Cairo Travel Guide!

Egypt's capital, and Africa's largest city, boasts attractions of biblical proportions -- literally. Giza's Sphinx and pyramids are iconic as to be beyond description. Add to this the astonishing gold of Tutankhamun buried in the dusty corridors of the Cairo Museum, the Islamic treasures of bejewelled mosques, labyrinthine medieval alleyways lined with tempting spices and colourful textiles and the daily shrill calls to prayer rising above the cacophony of car horns and crowded streets. Escape from the city's bustle by ordering a mint tea in a traditional ahwa (coffeehouse) or taking a felucca ride on the river Nile, Cairo's lifeblood and Africa's most significant waterway. ============================== Cairo History Cairo has been ruled by Persians, Pharaohs, Romans, Arabian caliphs, British colonials and more, and nurtured the establishment of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic religions. Not surprisingly, for today's visitor, the beauty is seeing those centuries unfold in layers, often juxtaposed into modern-day living. The original ancient city was actually Memphis, now 24km (15 miles) southwest of Cairo, founded in 2,000 BC and ruled by King Menes who united Upper and Lower Egypt. Fustat, as 'modern-day' Cairo was known, was founded some 3,000 years later and was one of the world's greatest, and largest cities and home to Egypt's first mosque. There embarked a period of huge construction of some of the city's most prominent landmarks. The Fatimids established the Al-Azhar mosque (one of the world's oldest Islamic universities) located in Islamic Cairo, the medieval quarter also home to the sprawling market streets of Khan el-Khalili. Once the Mamaluk Sultanate was captured by the Ottoman Empire, they shifted most of the trading back to Constantinople and Cairo became little more than a provincial town. The mkedieval curse, the Black Death, struck the city countless times reducing the population by hundreds of thousands. Cairo's place on the spice route was all but diminished. The Ottomans were soon unseated by Napoleonic troops who occupied Cairo in the late 18th century, later falling to British troops. Muhammad Ali Pasha was considered to be the founder of modern Egypt, with social and economic reforms and huge construction in the early 19th century. His grandson Ismail Pasha continued that modernization process, inspired by the broad boulevards of Paris, and his legacy can still be seen around today's Downtown Cairo. Debt let to British occupation lasting well into the 20th century, but huge demonstrations led to Egypt's independence declared in 1922 and Sultan Ahmad Fuad became King Fuad I. His son King Farouk I later married Queen Farida Zulficar. Since World War II, Cairo's development has been intense, its huge and fast-growing population leading to its current status as the largest city in Africa and the Muslim world. ====================== Weather in Cairo Best time to visit: Spring (Mar-Apr) and autumn (mid Sep-Oct) are most comfortable, when daytime temperatures reach 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Sultry summer (Jun-Aug) reach the high 30s. For those who hate the heat, winter (Dec-Jan) December and January are pleasantly cool (20 deg C / 68 deg F). Ramadan shifts ten days back annually -- in 2011 will begin in early August. During the month, many eateries will close during daylight hours, and some bars close for the entire month, but the city is festooned in decorative lights with traditional music at nights in Islamic Cairo. During the major festivals of Eid ul fitr and Eid ul Adha, many locals travel so flights, trains and buses could well be booked up in advance. ================ Cairo Attractions, Restaurants in Cairo, Tourism, Egypt, The Moghul Room, Fish Market, Revolving Restaurant, Abou El Sid, Coffee Shop, Cairo travel guide, Cairo Attractions, Cairo Hotels,Cairo Restaurants,Tourism in Egypt, Vacation Egypt, Giza, Pyramids, Cairo Museum

Travel video about destination Egypt. Egypt is a land of monumental temples, gigantic pyramids, the River Nile and the mysterious Sphinx: 5000 years of history.Founded by Alexander The Great in 332 B.C., the city of Alexandria is located in the Nile Delta and it was here that Caesar and Mark Anthony fell under Cleopatra’s spell. Cairo is Africa’s largest city and the heart of the Arab world, extreme poverty living next to opulent wealth, and modern, Western boutiques next to ancient souks.

World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Cairo - Egypt Travel Guide http://bit.ly/1gcTosP Restaurants in Cairo - Egypt Tourism and Vacation Many of the better Cairo restaurants, frequented by locals as well as visitors, are found in the international hotels. Food in Egypt is cheap, so you will rarely have to pay more than US$35 for a three-course meal (without wine). Imported drinks are considerably more expensive than the local version. Tax and tips are added to the prices listed on the restaurant and can bump the bill up by 20-25%. The restaurants below have been listed alphabetically and classed into four different pricing categories: Expensive (over US$40) Moderate (US$25 to US$40) Cheap (up to US$25) These prices include a three-course meal for one, excluding drinks and tip. The Moghul Room ============== Price: Expensive Thought to be Egypt's finest Indian restaurant, and located in the Mena House Oberoi hotel overlooking the Pyramids, the cuisine is North Indian, with kebabs and rich, creamy curries a speciality. Décor is traditional Indian, with classical musicians playing nightly. Address: Pyramids Road, Giza, Cairo, Egypt The Fish Market ============== Price: Expensive This busy, unpretentious restaurant is located on a huge boat on the Nile, spread over two floors, with fish delivered directly from the port of Alexandria. Choose from the catch of the day laid out on ice slabs, with prices per kilo clearly marked, from red mullet to sea bass and Alaskan King crab, which will then be grilled or fried. Good value set meals. Reservations recommended. Address: Sharia el Nil, Giza, Cairo, Egypt Revolving Restaurant ===================== Price: Expensive The view of the sunset from the Grand Hyatt's 40th floor cocktail lounge is surpassed only by the restaurant a floor above, with Cairo spread out at your feet like a tapestry of light. Suitable for a romantic intimate dinner for two, with tables set around a central platform, the restaurant offers inspiring French haute cuisine. Address: Grand Hyatt, Corniche el Nil, Garden City, Egypt Abou El Sid =========== Price: Moderate Hugely popular, this high-ceilinged space is all about dappled shadows, wooden tables with muted murals and tables full of meze. This is the place to enjoy traditional Egyptian dishes like molokkia -- a stew named after a bitter green vegetable used in the dish with meat (usually rabbit) and served with rice. Check for minimum charge. Address: 157 26 July St, Zamalek, Cairo, Egypt Khan El-Khalili Restaurant & Naguib Mahfouz Coffee Shop ============= Price: Moderate In the middle of the sprawling market streets, this traditional coffee shop is named after Egypt's Nobel prize-winning novelist, who set many of his works in this area. Traditional musicians play most evenings; try for a table in the front section. It serves traditional Egyptian cuisine but you could just come for a juice and fabulous Om Ali, the national's beloved dessert - a rich pudding made from sweet bread, dried fruit, nuts and cream. Address: 5 El Baddistan Lane, Khan al-Khalili, Cairo, Egypt Sequoia ========== Price: Moderate It's not renowned for culinary excellence, but the location and chic décor can't be beaten. Join Cairo's young fashionable crowd, sink into white sofas, choose meze or even sushi, as the breeze from the Nile cools your brow. There's even a menu of fruity sheesha pipes. Unbeatable on summer nights. Minimum charge at weekends; reservations essential. Address: 53 Abu El Feda, Zamalek, Cairo, Egypt Maison Thomas ================ Price: Cheap If you're crying out for a slice of pizza or a thick sandwich of cold cuts, this Italian-style bistro chain is a real institution. Good for kids and party goers, it's open 24 hours, and as good for a full evening meal as a coffee and slab of chocolate cake. Address: 157 26 July St, Zamalek, Cairo, Egypt Abou Tarek =========== Price: Cheap The best place to sample the traditional dish koshary -- a mix of rice, lentils, pasta and fried onions -- this is the place for an informal fill up where diners eat on tin plates. Filled with locals. Address: Egypt The Greek Club ============= Price: Cheap This friendly oasis in busy Downtown offers informal dinner in a cavernous dining room with huge tables. Choose from the reasonably-priced menu for Greek-influenced Egyptian dishes, plus ouzo and local drinks if you fancy a tipple. A good mix of people. Minimum charge; small membership fee. Address: 3 Sharia Mahmoud Bassiouni, off Midan Talaat Harb (above Groppis), Cairo, Egypt ============ Restaurants in Cairo, Tourism, Egypt, The Moghul Room, Fish Market, Revolving Restaurant, Abou El Sid, Coffee Shop, Cairo travel guide, Cairo Attractions, Cairo Hotels,Cairo Restaurants,Tourism in Egypt, Vacation Egypt, Giza, Pyramids, Cairo Museum
World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Cairo - Egypt Travel Guide http://bit.ly/1gcTosP Shopping in Cairo, Khan El-Khalili Shopping in Cairo can be great fun, veering from tourist souvenirs of alabaster pyramids and toy camels to traditional crafts of hand-blown glass, jewellery and traditional perfume oils. Haggling is a way of life, especially in the bazaars. Key areas: Khan el-Khalili has streets dedicated to specific trades, for example the Street of Coppersmiths for engraved brass trays, and Souq as-Sagha. The sidestreet behind Al Azhar Moque is filled with bookbinders, where hand-bound leather notebooks or photo albums can be customised at Abdel-Zaher Bookshop, 31 El-Sheikh Mohamed Abdou St. Zamalek is where the smart locals head for stylish fashions and top jewellery. A little further out, spacious Dokki, easily accessed by the underground, has smart boutiques. Markets: King of souks is Khan el-Khalili in Islamic Cairo, a world-famous attraction. Labyrinthine alleyways cram tiny shops with goodies including silks, spices, jewellery, hand-made leather shoes and perfumes. On its outskirts, Sharia Muski packs in household essentials like towels, toys and crockery. Stallholders will try to grab your attention, but it's easy to politely decline and walk on by. Shopping centres: Malls aren't a huge part of Cairo's shopping scene, but The First Mall, 35 Sharia Giza, houses over 60 designer boutiques, including brands such as Prada, Dior and Yves St Laurent. Catering for middle-class Cairenes, mega mall Citystars, Aly Rashad St, Heliopolis, houses international names such as Miss Sixty. Opening hours: Normal opening hours are Monday to Saturday 0900-2200, closing in summer between roughly 1230-1600. Tourist shops often stay open later. During Ramadan, stores may close for Iftar (breaking the fast) and stay open later in the evening. ===== Cairo Attractions, Restaurants in Cairo, Tourism, Egypt, The Moghul Room, Fish Market, Revolving Restaurant, Abou El Sid, Coffee Shop, Cairo travel guide, Cairo Attractions, Cairo Hotels,Cairo Restaurants,Tourism in Egypt, Vacation Egypt, Giza, Pyramids, Cairo Museum
Travel video about destination Egyptian Museam in Egypt. In the heart of the modern metropolis of Cairo is one of the greatest historical treasures in the world, the Egyptian Museum. The 'Museum of Egyptian Antiquities' was founded in 1835 by Mohammed Ali and was created to prevent the further plundering and destruction of Egypt's ancient treasures. The museum was built in 1900 by the French architect, Marcel Dourgnon. Its Neo-Classical design still guards the priceless heritage of ancient Egypt and today more than 155,000 impressive archaeological discoveries that cover 4,500 years of Egyptian history are on display. The museum's unique collection of jewelery contains rings once worn by high priests and also amulets that belonged to Ramses the Second. The fantastic grave offerings of Tutankhamen, who died at the age of 19, cover almost half a floor of the museum and its importance is due to precious objects such as the 'Gold Mask' of the young pharaoh that have assured its place among the world's greatest museums.

Este documental pretende evocar las memorias de un proceso que empezó en el 2007 con muchos sinsabores y un pasado doloroso. Sin embargo, en su trayectoria es posible evidenciar el renacimiento de la vida, en razón a la tenacidad, coraje y amor por la tierra, de mujeres y hombres campesinos sembradores de vida. Anhelamos que este renacer sea eterno.

Kair - Cairo - Meczet Ibn Tuluna - مسجد أحمد بن طولون - Mosque of Ibn Tulun - Egipt
http://tinyurl.com/8oaf4ubja8yo Last year we ran an electric generator on biogas in the Zabaleen community of Cairo Egypt, but we quickly broke the pull-start mechanism of the engine. This time, on Oct. 7 2010, we removed the starter and used an electric drill with a 21mm socket wrench (using a screw bolt and three nuts to affix it to the drill; a 19mm socket wrench would have also worked) to start the engine. We found that the choke should be set about half way. We also learned that the regulator which comes with the US Carburetion tri-fuel kit is not necessary for low pressure biogas; only the venturi bushing that comes with the kit (which can be installed between the carburetor and the air filter in 15 minutes). A simple valve partially opened (not fully open) provides the right amount of biogas. We put steel wool inside the barrel of the valve in order to protect the engine from the H2S in the gas (which would form sulfuric acid and corrode the engine). The hope is that the steel wool (which Hanna calls iron dust in the video) will consume the acid; it may be necessary to put more steel wool in to get a better effect. We will see. Initial observations are that 1 cubic meter of biogas in an ARTI style system, when pressurized with three planters (10 liter buckets of dirt) should give about 45 minutes of electricity which can be used to charge batteries and thus can add to solar and wind powered battery banks, making urban kitchen waste fed biogas a viable alternative energy supplement.

Voa News 2015-04-16Cairo ( /ˈkaɪroʊ/ KYE-roh; Arabic: القاهرة al-Qāhira, literally "The Vanquisher" or "The Conqueror"), is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world and Africa, and the 16th largest metropolitan area in the world. Located near the Nile Delta, it was founded in the year 969 A.D. making it 1,043 years old. Nicknamed "The City of a Thousand Minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture, Cairo has long been a centre of the region's political and cultural life. Cairo was founded by the Fatimid dynasty in the 10th century AD.; but the land composing the present-day city was the site of national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo is also associated with Ancient Egypt due to its proximity to the ancient cities of Memphis, Giza and Fustat which are nearby to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza.
Egyptians today often refer to Cairo as Maṣr (Arabic: مصر), the Arabic pronunciation of the name for Egypt itself, emphasizing the city's continued role in Egyptian influence. Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Arab World, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city, and the Arab League has had its headquarters in Cairo for most of its existence.
Call me jenny baby when you want me
Call me jenny jenny when I cry
With me big black empty handbag
You give me little lollie when we hungry
Give me Coca-Cola when we dry
In the good times and the bad times
That's right
(chorus)
Spending all me jarre
Smoking all the time
In Cairo
Making all the junk for the big man
In Cairo
Spending all me jarre
Smoking all the time
In Cairo
Doing all I can for the big man
Cairo
Under heavy menace in the day time
Under heavy hoola in the night
With me milkshake and no handshake
Singing in the morning like a tourist
Working for me money all the time
For the big wheel and the high heel
That's right

You give me little honey when me hungry
You give me cola, cola when me dry
Oh, with me good time and me bad times

Can't get no gyro
Smoking in a bar in Cairo
So I'm doing all I can
For the big man in Cairo
I'm on the heavy manners in the daytime
But on the hula, hula in the night
With no milkshake and no handshake
Sleeping in the morning like a tourist
Working for the dummy all the time
With me big wheel and me high heel
That's right
Can't get no gyro
Smoking in a bar in Cairo
So I'm doing all I can

Then we start to camel through the living room door
She was cool to me, but now her heart’s afiro
Since she learned how to do the cairo
And she go
