Hard cut to Gilbert's wife having sex with the other guy.

[–]cupcakegiraffe 235 points236 points  (48 children)

The other guy was Alan Thicke.

[–]HighPriestofShiloh 227 points228 points  (46 children)

That is Alan Thicke's wife... I am disappointed.

[–]dizneedave 89 points90 points  (27 children)

I would trade Alan's wife for Gilbert's immediately. Here is exactly what personality vs. money will get you.

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (7 children)

Agreed. Gilbert's wife seemed like a sweetheart, girl-next-door type. And better-looking than I (and probably Gilbert) expected.

[–]NeImporte 38 points39 points  (6 children)

I went to highschool with Dara. She was/is a very nice person. I told her she's on the front page of /r/funny but I'm not sure she browses reddit.

Edit: I told her about AMAs, seeing if Gilbert would be interested in doing one.

[–]ClintonHarvey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

EH, TELL HER EH, HER HUSBAND GILBERT SAYS HELLO, AND IF MAYBE WHEN SHE COMES HOME, WE CAN EH, HAVE A LITTLE NOOKIE, AND MAYBE EAT SOME BEANS, WE'LL POP IN PROBLEM CHILD TWO OR SOMETHIN' TO LIGHTEN THE MOOD CONSIDERING THE FACT DAT SHE HAS TO LIVE WITH ME.

[–]breadinabox 72 points73 points  (16 children)

Are you implying that Alann Thicke's wife was not possibly chosen on the merits of her own personality?

[–]ITS_MY_ROID_RAGE 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Obviously her personality is also shit if she won't fuck Gilbert Gottfried. 0/10 would not bang.

[–]giegerwasright 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Huh. I can get down with that. New rule; If you wouldn't fuck Gilbert Gottfried, I wouldn't fuck you.

Absurdist. Challenging. Curious. It hits all my right notes.

[–]dizneedave 43 points44 points  (13 children)

I'm completely and utterly implying that she might have been chosen on the merits of her other assets. But not her personality.

[–]Oberst_Von_Poopen 28 points29 points  (12 children)

Which asses of hers are you talking about

[–]---D 27 points28 points  (9 children)

The front ones.

[–]Douche_Kayak 40 points41 points  (3 children)

You mean not the fact that she looks like John Travolta?

[–]SirNarwhal 16 points17 points  (12 children)

Hey hey hey.

[–]biff11 69 points70 points  (10 children)

You're thinking of Robin Thicke

[–]Draiko 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No, I was thinking of Batman Thine.

[–]CuntWizard 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hard cut back to Gilbert purchasing some forget-me-nows at his local bodega.

The text I believe doesn't accurately portray gilbert.

      [–]servohahn 30 points31 points  (22 children)

I never even knew this was a show. Did he use "the voice" on the show or his actual voice?

      [–]Ramza_Claus 28 points29 points  (20 children)

Is that not his actual voice?

      [–]michaelscottforprez 37 points38 points  (15 children)

No. If you heard him say your name without seeing him you'd never know it was him. Theres a vid on YouTube when he was on Howard stern and they played an audio clip of his real voice. Its kinda weird.

      [–]redgroupclan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

His normal voice is so unlike his exaggerating voice that it's scary.

      [–]colocada 3 points4 points  (2 children)

No fucking way. His voice actually sounds nice!

      [–]funkgross 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a clip of his normal voice. It's much more reserved.

      [–]michaelscottforprez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He used the voice, but it was less exaggerated.

The best part of that episode is when he takes the wife to the ninety nine cent store. "I never liked the dollar store... It's too fancy for me."

      [–]cupcakegiraffe 156 points157 points  (5 children)

I thought it was hilarious that he had the cashier put something back for being something like $1.29 instead of a dollar. It was too rich for his blood.

        [–]cupcakegiraffe 38 points39 points  (3 children)

Ha ha, yeah. I caught the episode by accident with my roommate and it surprised me, yet at the same time didn't, how cheap the guy is. You gotta hand it to him, though, he's found some pretty funny ways of being cheap.

          [–]lordeddardstark 50 points51 points  (9 children)

Holy fuck. First time I've read (heard) something from that book. That shit is smut

          [–]A_Stoned_Smurf 30 points31 points  (6 children)

Pretty well known that that's all it is at this point haha, and terribly written at that.

          [–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (5 children)

From all my friends who've actually read quality smut, I've heard the writing in this is absolutely terrible and redundant. Apparently "Penis" is substituted for "member" nearly every time.

          [–]Oberst_Von_Poopen 66 points67 points  (3 children)

I am a penis at the local country club. It was hard to get the penisship but my penisship at the library helped me out a bit.

          [–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Library? Did you rent out Goldpenis?

          [–]frankle 43 points44 points  (1 child)

          You know, I don't repenis.

          [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Wow, I didn't realize how... I'm not sure how to say it... how lame that book is? How cheesy it is? Not sure how to word it. Is that how the entire book is written? That's pretty disappointing if it is, how did that get popular? Oh hell why do I ask? Twilight is popular too...

          [–]colocada 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Well, Fifty Shades initially started off as a Twilight fanfic, I believe. So that may answer your question.

          [–]rainbowponyslover 23 points24 points  (0 children)

God, every time I watch that I end up crying due to laughing so hard.

          [–]WebSlinger66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would actually buy this audiobook if it were real. Wow! I'm still laughing!

          [–]ElitistRobot 136 points137 points  (47 children)

This episode taught me how much of a smug cunt Alan Thicke is.

          [–]Apple-Porn 15 points16 points  (29 children)

These have taught me a lot about some celebrities. Penn especially...

          [–]BeatlesLists 8 points9 points  (27 children)

I haven't seen the episode. What was he like?

          [–]Apple-Porn 30 points31 points  (26 children)

The worst part was letting his children make fun of the girl explaining to them what a sabbath was and mocking her religion. Being happy that they think anything to do with religion is rediculous

          [–]BeatlesLists 31 points32 points  (7 children)

Hm that's interesting. I know Penn is a vocal atheist, but I wonder how much of it was done only for the cameras. I notice a decent amount of acting in this wife swap (exaggeration for the camera).

          [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the production I suppose. He said Celebrity Apprentice was pretty accurate even though they did splice things together that happened at different times. I'm guessing this show tries to play up the personal drama though.

          [–]Apple-Porn 20 points21 points  (5 children)

I'm sure it was done for the cameras because wife swap always has conflicting views between the families.

          [–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

His son Robin is even more of a douche.

          [–]noegenetic 6 points7 points  (12 children)

You do realize that these reality shows are all planned and scripted out beforehand right? Alan Thicke may indeed be a smug cunt but you shouldn't be able to determine that from watching him on reality TV.

          [–]Nodonn226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gilbert was pretty funny and Alan was smug, but Alan's wife was even worse.

The best part was how the two husbands shit on each other immediately upon hearing who the other person was.

          [–]Fusionism 64 points65 points  (4 children)

Which brings in the question.. I wonder if anyone has ever fucked on Wife Swap?

          [–]Liar_tuck 54 points55 points  (2 children)

I do not think Tiger Woods has been on the show yet.

          [–]StankWizard 8 points9 points  (1 child)

He has probably been involved behind the scenes though. And between the covers.

          [–]flclreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

          There's a book?

          [–]thedeuce75 390 points391 points  (57 children)

Any time Glibert gets mentioned on the internet I feel the need to bust out this old clip of his real off the air voice. It's kind of eye opening.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdbElWMnkyY

          [–]Skizot_Bizot 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I figured he was playing it up a bit but that's pretty nuts actually lol.

          [–]EnderFenrir 40 points41 points  (4 children)

A commercial he did out of character. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G38khfe0KMA

A not super thick stage voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXtG4nzfu2E

          [–]HighPriestofShiloh 50 points51 points  (2 children)

A commercial he did out of character.

I still got a hint of his character (unlike the voice mail from the comment you are responding to), obviously that was early in his career, I wonder if he was still working on it. This is early alpha Gilbert.

A not super thick stage voice.

That looks more like late beta testing Gilbert, almost ready for release. Easily an open beta at this point.

          [–]Le_Euphoric_Genius 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Your mom is an open beta.

          [–]KingradKong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are awesome! You can totally hear a much more normal voice without all the strange inflections of Gottfried!

          [deleted]

            [–][deleted] 221 points222 points  (15 children)

I thought it was Gilbert, weirdly talking about himself....

            [–]Oysta_Cracka 110 points111 points  (4 children)

From what it sounds like to me, he's interviewing Gilbert, and is then playing a tape of him as well, and talking to him about it.

            [–]Jeremazing 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Yep. Howard stern interviewing Gilbert, while discussing his voices. Not that complicated.

            [–]coachreptar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more odd that he can't just ask him what his normal voice sounds like. But he probably can't just because that's part of Gilbert's marketing.

            [–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That is Gilbert talking, he's just using his "on air" voice and going along with the jokes.

            [–]evanman69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He used his normal voice on SNL.

            [–]TheDataWhore 6 points7 points  (6 children)

I was thinking about this too. Did he use his real voice in wife swap or his acting one?

            [–]I_AM_Achilles 45 points46 points  (4 children)

            Acting voice nonstop.

            [–]Sum_Bitch 27 points28 points  (0 children)

            Good.

            [–]HighPriestofShiloh 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I wonder what he does when ordering food at a restaurant.

            [–]bentyl91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

            "Hey look! It's Gilbert Gottfried!"

            hears voice

            "No, that's not him"

            [–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Was there a camera rolling? You've answered your own question.

            [–]Triviaandwordplay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd never believe that without proof, so take it with a grain of salt.

            [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's with that annoying woman trying to talk over everyone and during the clips? Does stern need people around just to agree with him through the whole show?

            [–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (6 children)

Hoo hoo hoo, Robin. You know uh, Gilbert would be nothing without me.

            [–]canteloupy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't get that people seem to miss the part where actors act. And reality TV and nonstop papparazzi coverage seems to be marketed entirely to that segment.

            [–]psybermonkey15[S] 141 points142 points  (53 children)

Btw you can watch the whole episode here. He provides a lot more laughs.

            [–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (1 child)

That was awesome. I did not go into that expecting Gilbert and his wife to be so awesome and likable, but they both seem great.

            [–]sacrabos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He really was someone I'd like to have a beer with. Alan was more of someone I'd like to throw a beer on.

            [–]Smiley_Dafe 61 points62 points  (3 children)

Holy shit - that is not what I expected Gilbert's wife to look like. She is very attractive. I expected her to look like a female version of him. And his kids are so cute & adorable!

Alan Thicke's wife, on the other hand, looks like a battle troll with too much plastic surgery.

            [–]Thylinn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

-battle troll with to much plastic surgery.

I am going to have to use this from now on. Thank you Smiley_Dafe

            [–]WisconsnNymphomaniac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She is also a bit... Thicke.

            [–]devedander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She appears to have been hot in her younger days, but apparently the soft life has softened her up also...

            [–]RagingAgainst 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just saw the entire episode and it seems that during the dinner party there was more meaning to Alan saying something along the lines of being calm on the outside, but actually splashing around on the inside. During the reuniting of the couples, that gold digger of a wife of his doesn't kiss him because of her lipstick and from the things he said about not spending so much, he pretty much knows that she's all there for the money. Gilbert and his wife on the other hand, seem to have a great relationship.

            [–]Boux 51 points52 points  (7 children)

This is the only thing i know Alan Thicke for.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfRQJ4tLS7I

            [–]TheRumpletiltskin 36 points37 points  (4 children)

            he also made Robin Thicke.

            [–]letmeusespaces 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He made me thick, too... (winky face)

            [–]CaptainGriff 40 points41 points  (18 children)

I didn't really watch all of this I just kinda skipped through but Alan Thicke's life seems like a bitch.

Edit: Meant to say wife not life

            [–]Deadmeat553 18 points19 points  (1 child)

            I completely agree.

"I picked out everything like the curtains from catalogs" Oh poor you! You totally deserve diamonds for that.

I was actually really surprised how down to earth the Thicke son was. He actually seemed like a pretty decent guy.

            [–]EtriganZ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well he is from a different mother.

            [–]WockItOut 9 points10 points  (7 children)

            Wife?

            [–]urmyheartBeatStopR 25 points26 points  (3 children)

Yeah his wife is whipping him and living off the high life.

            Spending spree and such.

It's also kinda his fault it seems like he chose to marry a trophy wife.

            [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

            She's kinda homely.

            [–]Sturmgeist781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

            a trophy wife.

            lolwut

If that was my wife, I'd hire someone to kill her.

            [–]BobBeaney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

            I'll do it for free.

            [–]the_sloppy_J 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Meh..just a different lifestyle. Kinda bitchy, but its different strokes for different folks.

            [–]Hydris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you did there.

            [–]motdidr 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Holy shit... The Thickes are the most insufferable people I've seen in a while.

            [–]Liar_tuck 10 points11 points  (1 child)

The kid seems like he might have the potential to be less of a douche. But I doubt I could stand 5 minutes in Alans pretense.

            [–]EtriganZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like how at 11:41 the narrator says New York and a shot of the Atlanta skyline goes up on screen instead.

            [–]Theres_A_FAP_4_That 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL.. I like how Alan Thicke goes out with sunglasses and hat.. If I saw him on the street, I may nudge someone to look, that's it. But Gilbert walking around like it's no biggie...

            [–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (7 children)

Awwk, not that kind of swap. (Iago)

            Edit. A parrot

            [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Just because Iago said Othello slept with his wife doesn't mean... Oh, the bird. Right. Gotcha.

            [–]Software_Engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

            JAFAHH!

            [–]sleeper141 19 points20 points  (5 children)

            Gilbert is a national treasure.

he is hysterical on the Stern Show.

            [–]xAy3x 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Well she just has a bad attitude

            [–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Loving all the links to his stuff. Funniest shit I have seen for a while.

            Edit: Stupid words: funnist

            [–]AtrainV 8 points9 points  (1 child)

            Nobody likes a funnist...

            [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

            True. Head hanging in shame

            [–]have_a_whimsical_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it leads to a resurgence of Gilbert. He is by far the funniest, over the top SOB on Stern. Likely ahead of his time.

the "I HATE YOU..." after she said he was getting driving lessons was perfect.

            [–]Random_Link_Roulette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL I read this exactly as he said that

            [–]dizneedave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just watched the whole thing, and I wouldn't trade Gilbert's wife for anything. She's awesome!

            [–]VandaleViper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

            Gilbert GotGame

            [–]AleRaiser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gilbert was also great in Married... with Children.

            [–]MVB1837 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I watched this full episode. Gilbert swapped wives with Alan Thicke, Robin Thicke's father.

Turns out Gilbert is very thrifty and is a doting father. Generally a down-to-earth, solid guy. Probably the best husband anyone could ever ask for. Turns out Alan Thicke is an absolute douche.

The episode ended with the Thicke family having legit marriage problems as they realized how superficial their lives were, while the Gottfried family drove home and laughed about it.

            [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Just once I want him to do an interview or show in his actual voice, and not his shtick voice.

            Just once.

            [–]SithLordDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has done many on Howard stern show. He isn't a very a good interview in the sense that he doesn't open up personally but he is funny

            [–]Randis_Albion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

            she didn't say no tho

            [–]merecido 14 points15 points  (7 children)

It is NOT POSSIBLE to NOT read this in his voice. Not possible I say.

            [–]tjsr 8 points9 points  (6 children)

I have no idea what he sounds like, so I just read it as Michael Wincott.

            [–]themightyscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair this is always what I thought it meant before the TV series started. So when it first started I was pretty shocked. That was until I watched it for the first time. Then I was appalled.

            [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Then what the fuck is the point of this swap, or this show? Seriously.

            [–]dotcomse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Now I'm sorry, baby, I don't go downtown, it's just something I Leonard Washington don't do." "It's OK Leonard, I'm waxed!" "Damn! Now I've heard of trimmin' the hedges, but you done scorched the earth... I smell your lightsaber..."

            [–]zoinks690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the hell is the point of this show if not this? Are people watching because of the "interesting dialogue" when cultures clash?

            [–]Bilgistic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

            Spoilsport.

            [–]Sekolah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone else read that in his voice?

            [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think actual celebrities went on that show.

            [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

            [–]ZombieShawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well what the hell kind of swap is it then!?

            [–]nofate301 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don't know how lucky I am, but I have heard this man speak without putting on his caricature voice. It's awesome.

            [–]dparks2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always wondered about that.. but the guy is like ALWAYS in character..

            [–]sacrabos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always thought Gilbert was funny in his way. Gained additional respect for him when that episode aired, as he is very down to earth. Lost lots of respect for the Thicke's though.

            [–]firemike28 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The term "celebrity" is used loosely with this show. Most are D actors at best. However, Gilbert is a very funny dude.
