I've recently bought a GMMK Pro 75 which I've fitted with Boba U4T's; and noted that the board has a lot of pinging when I type. I think That it is from the keys bottoming out but it is kind of distracting when I type -would I be able to reduce the ping with any kind of padding if I opened up the board and whacked some foam in there or is there a better way to address this?

GMMK Pro gang where ya at?!

SirScribe
replied to ChadleyXD

I have actually- part of the reason I am building this board is because I bailed on the Mojo68 'Plastic' board, so I have bought a set of dupes of Buger/Tokey's "Plastic" keycaps. I love how they look like they belong either in like, an Aperture Science/Black Mesa lab or even in the Thunderdome from Pacific Rim. That classic sort of Retro Nuclear bunker/Secret Base aesthetic =).

Wow, this looks just as good as the display photos you see on the seller page! I have one on my current board and it's so satisfying to use - though mildly disappointing that the Red Army Choir doesn't start singing when you press it!

I'm fairly new to the hobby but I am just waiting for my pay to come through so I can order one in White Ice for my first board I get to really choose the caps and switches for - the GMMK is such a lovely design.

My first “custom” keyboard

SirScribe
commented

This keycap set is such an aesthetic! I deliberately chose this set as well for my first 'custom' build as well, though probably with more of the orange and blue alternate caps for the Shift keys and such cause they have such a fun sort of 'Aperture Science feel to them (at least in my opinion).
The full white look is so CLEAN though, this board looks amazing =D

Maggie Crystal dice are gorgeous, and beautifully made; this is a lovely set you have!

How's the heft on them? I have a set of Maggie's Opalite dice and they have such a pleasing weight to them - though as you noted, you have to be gentle on these glass dice hey.

I appreciate they're not HUGELY well known but it's borderline criminal that nobody has yet recommended the force of nature that is Troldhaugen, the Wollongong bred Folk Metal group. Every gig they do they go HARD, and they tour fairly reliably with Alestorm and Toehider who are terribly good fun.

Beautiful! It may be cheek of me but I've actually been using your take on Neuland as an exemplar for my own exploration of the script- I really like the way you do 'n's. It's a little different and adds some interest where the letterforms start to get a little 'same-y', which I find happens with Neuland in general.

I hope this isn't coming off as critique, I know that you've specifically asked not to have critique; I love your work and hope you keep doing stuff with Neuland =)

I really love seeing mixed media works like this; did you paint over old letters or books or something, or did you do all that writing yourself? Whichever way, it's great work

Also, I'm getting a real Shaun Tan vine from this piece - have you seen his work? I think it would be right up your alley if this is the style you normally go for =)

Summoning dark tattoo (crosspost from /r/discworldTatoos)

SirScribe
commented

There's something kind of conflicting about Summoning Dark Tattoos. On one hand it is a really great design and the idea it represents is interesting, but it's It's like having the One Ring Poem as a tattoo, it's a representation of unfiltered, ancient evil. It feels like it needs to be balanced out by a matching Guarding Dark Tattoo, even just for superstitious reasons

That said, this is an amazing rendition of the mark, I love the jagged edges of each stroke.

gotta say this is made even more impressive by the fact that, as far as I can see, you haven't used any guidelines - it takes some serious skill to 1. keep closed to a straight line and 2. maintain a consistent x height without any guidelines, at least in my experience. Great work, keep it up!

Just got given a new calligraphy set and I'm so excited to use it, but I've never used anything fluke this before (I only have used a brush pen before!) any tips?

SirScribe
replied to bemed

I dunno, the two nibs in the middle of the set look like decent Mitchells; very small edge, but still perfectly serviceable nibs compared to the rather baroque ones on the ends.
