Protest with Freedom Socialist Party against racist police powers! Join our contingent to stop the far right

On 17 September a “Make Victoria Safe Again” rally at Parliament House — called by Avi Yemini, an ultra-right Zionist with neo-Nazi connections — will demand greater state powers to racially profile and imprison First Nations, immigrant and African community youth. Campaign Against Racism and Fascism (CARF) is mobilising to stop it. See CARF’s facebook event for details.

FSP is a part of the CARF united front. We and our sister organisation, Radical Women, are organising a united, disciplined contingent for the CARF counter-action and welcome all who want to go with us. To participate in the contingent, contact Radical Women: radicalwomen@optusnet.com.au

Neo-Nazis will be at the Yemini rally. The events of Charlottesville show why we must stop them. Boston showed how this is done: show up in our many thousands and overpower them with our massively superior numbers! Join our contingent and be part of a decisive victory in Melbourne.

4-weekly discussion circle – Lessons of October: Learning from the 1917 Russian Revolution

What makes a modern revolution successful? A four-week study group will explore the short book Lessons of October by Leon Trotsky, based on his experience as a leader of the Russian Revolution. Trotsky asserts that creating fundamental changes requires a working-class party — and one that is not doctrinaire but is able to gauge and respond to swiftly changing conditions. His work is a valuable resource for activists who want to understand the dynamics of today’s “pop-up movements” and upsurges like the Arab Spring.

We’ll meet each Wednesday, 4 - 25 October, 6.30 pm.

Lessons of October is available for $20 at Solidarity Salon.

Dinner served at 6.30 pm for a $10 donation. Discussion starts at 7.00 pm

Location: Solidarity Salon (address and travel information is above).

To join the study group and get the book or further information, contact the FSP: freedom.socialist.party@ozemail.com.au or 03-9388-0062.

Wednesday 8 November, 6:30 pm

8-session study circle: Democracy and Revolution

If this is democracy, why do we feel insecure, ignored and powerless? Join in this timely study of U.S. Marxist writer George Novack’s Democracy & Revolution.

Novack traces democracy’s 2,500-year evolution, from its roots in ancient Greece and rise through revolutionary upsurges to its decline in modern capitalism. We’ll also explore the democracy a workers’ socialist revolution could achieve.

We’ll meet alternate Wednesdays, commencing 8 November.

Democracy & Revolution is available for $28 at Solidarity Salon.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm for a $10 donation.

Location: Solidarity Salon (address and travel information is above).
