Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba (Spanish: República de Cuba ), is a country comprising the islands of Cuba, Isla de la Juventud and several archipelagos in the Caribbean Sea. The capital and largest city Havana is 365 km (227 mi) from Miami, Florida. Geographically, Cuba is considered part of North America. Culturally, it is considered part of Latin America.
Prior to Spanish colonization in the late 15th century, Cuba was inhabited by Amerindian tribes. It remained a colony of Spain until the Spanish–American War of 1898, which led to nominal independence as a de facto U.S. protectorate in 1902. As a fragile republic, Cuba attempted to strengthen its democratic system, but mounting political radicalization and social strife culminated in the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista in 1952. Further unrest and instability led to Batista's ousting in January 1959 by the July 26 movement, which afterwards established a government under the leadership of Fidel Castro. Since 1965, the country has been governed by the Communist Party of Cuba.

Genres: Drama,There are few more fascinating destinations in the Caribbean than its largest and most populous island, Cuba -- not least because it has been a socialist republic since the 1959 revolution, when Fidel Castro seized power. This last remaining vestige of state socialism, 90 miles south of Key West, Florida, was once the last stronghold of Spanish power in the region. Cuba's rich artistic heritage ranges from pre-Columbian cultures to the splendors of Spanish colonialism and the internationally acclaimed art of today. It is also a place of great natural beauty, with three magnificent mountain ranges and fertile plains where sugar cane and tobacco grow. And it has some of the best beaches in the world. President Obama called on Congress this week to lift the decades-old trade embargo on Cuba. U.S.-Cuban relations have thawed and tourism has increased, but it's still unclear when Americans will be able to travel freely to the nation that was historically off limits. As traveling restrictions are eased, Cuba may also not be ready to accommodate the onslaught of American visitors. Ben Tracy reports.

Two years ago, President Barack Obama restored diplomatic relations with Cuba. Since then, Cold War-era travel restrictions that prohibited most Americans from visiting were lifted, leading to a surge of U.S. tourists and a scramble to accommodate them. Travel video about destination Cuba. Basking in the Caribbean sun, the island of Cuba lies between sun and socialism, rumba and revolution. Havana is the capital. In 1553, the Spanish conquerors designated Havana’s harbour as a collection point for ships loaded with gold and silver from the new Spanish colonies and named the settlement, San Cristobal De La Habana.La Bodeguita Del Medio was once Hemmingway`s local and nowhere else is the ‘Mojito’ mixed better: three year old white rum, lime juice, soda, sugar, ice and mint. Whether it be the Teatro Marti, the Old Tobacco Factory, the famous Bacardi house, or the Floridita Bar, everywhere there is a feeling of nostalgia. When the Daiquiri is served, one almost expects Fidel Castro to be sitting at the next table. Pinar Del Rio is a small but...

Tourism chronicles an individual’s journey around the island of Cuba. The camera focuses on the road where the tourist is cruising, moving along on roller skates. The tourist follows its track, turning its back to the land- scape and crossing paths with locals, cars, trucks, buses and carriages. The smooth skating movement is constantly disrupted by the montage, condensing time and space. The result is a visual impromptu. Tourism explores the intensity of being in a space of otherness.

Havana is a city that beats to an animated heartbeat. Life is very much so lived on the streets and rooftops, where locals and visitors mingle freely. It was everything that I imagined and more. My sole regret is only having a few days to immerse myself in this kaleidoscopic wonder. Tourism has become vital to Cuba's existence and one would hope to think that we can give back as much as we get out of the experience. Cubans are a very warm and affectionate people and as a US citizen, I felt welcomed with an open heart and mind. Coming from a photographic background I am new to videography but am falling head over heels with it. There is nothing more satisfying than the beginning stages of discovering a new passion, even with all the stumbling blocks and frustration that come along with le...
Only 90 miles separate the coast of Florida from Cuba, but for decades the short distance was a near impossibility for generations of thrill seekers. Now the well conserved ecological paradise, 100-miles of pristine, fish-filled flats, is slowly opening to anglers. Avalon Outdoor Guides showed Jonathan Jones, a.k.a. Redbeard and Ross Kingsley to unspoiled waters so they could let it fly in the Cayo Cruz marine park. Since 1992, Avalon has been introducing sustainability in the conservation tourism—limiting the number of licenses with an increasing number of conservation projects providing Cuba one of the most successful programs for fly fishing. Equipped in the Guide’s Choice with ChromaPop, the boys scored one for the ages.
This is a short piece I've done with some shots of people and places I met in Egypt while I was shooting a tourism programme for a flight company in December 2009. I shot it all using a Canon 5d Mark II and a Glidetrack HD. Edited in FCP and graded with After Effects. The main theme is "Ah Men El-Fora2" by Amr Diab, covered by a super talented egyptian musician called MARWAN ANWER. The intro is extracted from a song called "Beirut Goes to Cuba".
We journeyed to Cuba over Christmas this year and had a blast. I brought down a single camera and two lenses... The Sony A6000, Zeiss 16-70mm and Sony 10-18. I have to say, even in just shooting AVCHD, I was pretty impressed with that little unit. The video turned out a little more touristy than I had wanted, but we had limited time to get away from the tours and just couldn't make the timing work to explore more. Next time, I'll devote a few days to just shooting. Music: I'm Coming Home, by Zachary Davis... licensed through www.themusicbed.com

To announce a new Cuba policy that could tighten rules on trade and travel, President Donald Trump is expected to visit Miami as early as next Friday. According to a U.S. official and people familiar with the matter, the new policy rolls back parts of former President Barack Obama’s opening to the island. A U.S. official said, Trump’s aides were nearing completion of a comprehensive review of relations with Cuba. They are expected to send recommendations to his national security team and then to the president in coming days. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/0Wlg1qi9ypQ/us-cuba-usa-trump-policy-idUSKBN191009 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

With deliveries of Venezuelan oil down 40 percent since 2014 according to experts, state-owned Cuba Petroleo (CUPET) is looking to boost production and diversify its markets, in the hopes of sustaining the trade which for ten years has kept the island's economy alive.
President Trump will travel to the Cuban-American enclave of Miami on June 16 to unveil changes to the U.S. policy toward Cuba, and the modifications are expected to reverse some of the openings that former president Barack Obama enacted in 2014. Trump threatened during his presidential campaign to completely terminate Obama's opening, which re-established diplomatic relations between the Cold War foes after more than 50 years of isolation. Over the following two years, the Obama administration created new openings for Americans to travel to the long-isolated island, for U.S. businesses to operate in the communist nation and for Cubans to visit the U.S. A government official briefed on Trump's changes who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the pr...

In 2014 my wife and I traveled to Cuba, legally and easily, with six other US citizens on a People-to-People tour. This was my second trip to Cuba (the first was in 2003). More Americans should take the opportunity to know our island neighbor, which is only 90-miles off the coast of Florida. We would all -- Americans and Cubans -- benefit greatly by ending our US embargo against Cuba.

The Havana Sofa's teaser Duration of the entire documentary: 55' year of production: 2011 France/Cuba Directed by Magda Wodecka and Gregory Szeps Theorem Films Productions (Paris, France) Summary: Caruka, Raul, Nelson and Yanuci are divided between collectivism and individualism. Cuba changes and their only reference mark is the Havana’s sea front, El Malecon. There, inside this micro-society, they looking for an outlet for their daily difficulties. This place is the expression of their faintness and their daily fight «la lucha » to live with dignity. The Havana’s Sofa, seven kilometers long low wall gathers all the Cubans. Malecon is one of the last barrier to the change of their society.
A video shot at a small cigar factory at Miami's famous 8th St. In "La Calle Ocho" is where most of Cuban exiles choose to have their factories or at least a token front when dealing with cigars. Tobacco is planted the world over and cigars are rolled everywhere that plant is harvested but for reasons I'm sure many people are unaware of, Cuba has an overwhelming preponderance when it comes to tobacco and particularly cigar’s topmost quality. Connoisseurs say the tobacco from this island is the best there is and name the plants, soil and microclimate as the main reasons. But debatable as these may be there is little doubt on who makes the best cigars in America. Another elusive dictum is why Cubans choose Miami as their Cosa Nostra. It can’t be just geographical proximity (the city of Key W...

Videos taken by doctor Darsi Ferrer and smuggled out of Cuba by therealcuba.com's webmaster show the real health care regular Cubans receive. Very different from the flagship hospital for the Elite, paying foreigners and special interest useful idiots where Michael Moore went for his Sicko propaganda movie. This is only the beginning, there is plenty more this came from and a lot of the raw videos are already here in this youtube profile. These are the hospitals from the other side of the apartheid for regular Cubans that Sicko wouldn't show.
Do people in Cuba get much better health care than Americans? If you too are as naive as Michael Moore, and believe Cuban claims, then you think the answer is "yes."
June 2006 Despite decades of crippling sanctions, Cuba has achieved the unthinkable. Its health care system rivals most Western countries and infant mortality rates are lower than those in America. "There is no place in the world with such a system as we have in Cuba", raves one happy patient. Prevented from importing drugs by sanctions, Cuba was forced to make is own medicines. It now sells this technology to other countries, enabling revenues from the health sector to rival those generated by tourism. But it's the training for free of international medical students that's really marking Cuba's stamp on the region. "In ten years, we will have trained between 100,000 -- 150,000 students", boasts Dr Estevez. America claims gestures like this are a means of Cuba buying UN votes. But Cub...

Cuba has provided thousands of doctors to work in medically underserved areas in countries around the world to restore those communities from the impact of natural disasters, epidemics and the widespread lack of medical care. In 1999 Cuba opened the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) to give medical scholarships to the brightest from poor areas around the world so that they may become doctors that will eventually retur...

For all the latest news and commentary, visit https://www.ConservativeReview.com ; CR on FB: https://goo.gl/A6Y7ZZ • Apologists for Fidel Castro’s socialist regime often bring up his number one talking point when defending the regime: health care. • But the only way to get good health care in Cuba is to be a tourist with cash or a member of the political elite. • The reality is that Cuba’s health care system has hospitals that are failing, doctors that are paid so little they drive cabs, and little access to equipment or medicine. • It turns out that “free” health care is worth EXACTLY what you pay for it.

Cuba is famous for its excellent health care system, which is free of charge for its citizens. How can a developing country like Cuba reach such a high level of free health care? We meet doctor Gisela, and go on tour with her trough the neighborhood she attends. But what if you live in a developing country where access to health care is not that obvious? In the Philippines we meet Emma. She is not a doctor, but a Community Health Worker. We witness how she, together with her colleagues, helps her neighbors and organizes them for the right to health. Miguel Iglesias - swimmer turned dancer When Miguel Iglesias, director of Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, was still in grammar school, he told his dad he wanted to be a dancer. Without saying a word, his father began to guide his son towards sports, especially swimming. Miguel became pretty good at it and eventually graduated from the Higher Institute of Sports and Physical Education. But his wish of becoming a dancer had never died. He danced whenever and wherever he could at social centers, comparsas during the carnivals, anywhere. In 1967, encouraged by a friend who was dancing with the Cuban Television Ballet, he did an audition and passed the test. Two years later, in 1969, he traveled to Camagüey to work with the newly-created ballet. He studied there under Russian dancer Azari Pliz...

It’s only 93 miles from Florida, and just 13 from the Bahamas, but like the smoke that coils from its legendary cigars, The Republic of Cuba exists in a time and space all its own. Few cities can stir the imagination like Cuba’s capital, Havana, a city preserved by forts, a five-mile seawall, and an imposed embargo, which held back the excesses of the 20th century for over 50 years. Havana’s lure can be hard to resist, but Cuba offers so much more beyond the seductive lights of its capital. In Cuba, a long sandy beach is never far away. Just 12 miles from Havana’s downtown, the Eastern Beaches unroll toward the town of Matanzas, the birthplace of the rumba, and Cárdenas, where the Cuban Flag flew for the very first time. From here, follow the scent of fresh lime, rum and suntan lot...
Jonny here, right now I'm in Havana, and in this short film I'm going to explain a little about tourism in Cuba. Most cultural holidays to Cuba will start in Havana, a city of magnificent decaying colonial architecture, monuments and parks, museums and galleries, music and bars and large old American cars. But the first thing you'll probably notice wandering around Havana is the near total lack of consumerism. Cuba is still a communist country with no commercial influence from America, and as such there's almost no evidence at all of the large multinationals we're used to in the West; you won't find any Starbucks or McDonalds here. There are no billboards advertising Coca Cola, there are no glass fronted shopping malls. Which is actually really quite refreshing. The whole city gives you ...

I visited Cuba in July 2016 and after 18 days touring the island I made up a list of information I wish I had before my holiday. This is my collection of advice and suggestions I've made to try and help anyone travelling to Cuba. I looked up help videos before my own trip, and what I learnt while there was really not covered in most of the videos I watched on youtube. I guess I'm trying to bring more tips all together in one video (albeit a slightly long video haha). There is a lot more to know, I'm sure... but this is a decent list that will give you hopefully more direction to research when planning your holiday. http://www.expedia.com/Wellington-and-vicinity.d6127327.Destination-Travel-Guides Wellington is the political, cultural and culinary capital of Aotearoa as the Māori call New Zealand. The compact city spills out of the mountains and overlooks Cook Strait. In the world's southernmost capital fresh ocean winds seem to bring in waves of creativity. Civic Square is an eclectic mix of artworks and houses the elegant Town Hall, while Cuba Street is the place to go for shopping. The waterfront is dotted with craft beer bars and restaurants. The country's cultural heritage is explained in the beloved Te Papa National Museum. Other good museums in Wellington are the Carter Observatory and the Museum of Wellington City and Sea. On the Miramar Peninsula, the Weta Workshop shows paraphernalia of fa...
On December 12th 2014 we began our one week long journey to the land of Cuba. Witnessing history in Havana, walking through remnants of a once vibrant city and talking to the people who have suffered the most, this trip is one I will never forget. Here is just a glimpse into what we saw during our brief time in this changing country. Here are some descriptions of the people featured: 03:09 - This man was the grounds keeper of a cemetery near Matanzas. He showed us the grave of an eight year old boy who was killed by thieves when he tried to protect his mother and grandmother. 03:14 - This woman saw us walking down the street and offered to show us to the small theatre across the street. 03:20 - This woman, Diana (with her husband Jorge, in the background) offered to walk us all the way t...
The best snorkeling in Cuba is found in Cayo Santa Maria. Basecampers Troy, Rodrigo and Liz go to Marina Cayo Santa Maria, just a 15 minute ride from Melia Cayo Santa Maria, to meet with Freddy, guide and boat captain for the day. While the snorkeling is amazing with countless fish, the scooter ride itself is a cool way to enjoy the scenery! https://www.expedia.com/explore/caribbean/cuba.d44 It’s only 93 miles from Florida, and just 13 from the Bahamas, but like the smoke that coils from its legendary cigars, The Republic of Cuba exists in a time and space all its own. From here...

With SAIL Magazine and Waterways Guide writer, Wally Moran As a bill ending travel restrictions on U.S. citizens visiting Cuba wends its way through Congress, it's likely that this forbidden Caribbean isle maybe the next great destination for U.S. cruising sailors. "Varadero and Santa Marta were my first taste of large, urban civilization since I'd arrived in Cuba. There are good restaurants, pubs, artists' markets, a sense of history, friendly people eager to meet you…" -- Wally Moran Wally Moran, a sailing writer and professional charter skipper, has cruised to Cuba and speaks about his experiences at boat shows and sailing seminars. Read his article, Cuba: The Next Cruising Ground? in the Sail Magazine. Wally also writes for Waterway Guides and is an expert on cruising the ICW. In thi...

We danced and partied at the infamous Las Parradillas fiesta on Christmas eve, I caught a type of poison ivy from brushing the venemous Guao plant (while trying to get some footage), and we got lost wandering through the old Havana streets meeting fantastic people along the way. If you get the chance to visit Cuba then GO! What a place... After hearing news of the changing relationship between the Cubans and Americans we decided to grab a flight and travel over the xmas break for a couple of weeks. This is the resulting video... One of Cuba’s most creative skaters and surfers, Yojani Pérez Rivera reflects on how he and his amigos are #livingoffthewall to make the most of the little they have. Mamerto, as he’s known around the island, is among the most active local skaters advancing Cuba Skate's mission. Cuba Skate, an NGO created by American skater Miles Jackson, is in the process of creating a documentary feature following the lives of Mamerto and his scrappy crew, 23yG, to rally the international skate community around its goals: 1. provide much needed skate materials to the Cuban youth 2. renovate the only, dilapidated skatepark in Havana 3. establish the first skate shop in Cuba and foster a bilateral educational exchange between Cuban and American skaters Winning Vans’ #LIVINGOFFTHEWALL Contest would help...

refrain:
When you got the feeling
You try to get higher
You think you're going insane
You're almost crazy
It really drives you mad
You feel it coming your way
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Oooh!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Oh, when you spin 'n' stompin'
There's no way out
You're getting down by the sound
And you fool about, feet around
As you inspire
It really knocks yourself out
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Yeah!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Come on, man, y'all
Yeah, you got it now
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Non stop, mmm, dance
Yeah
Non stop (Dance) (3x)
Non stop (Dance!)
refrain
You're almost crazy
It really drives you mad
You feel it coming your way
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Hey!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Do the dance (Do the dance)
Do the dance (You're getting down by the sound)
Do the dance (Do the dance)
Do the dance (It really knocks yourself out)
Come on, do the dance
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Do the dance (Do the dance)
Do the dance (You're getting down by the sound)
Do the dance (Do the dance)
Do the dance (It really knocks yourself out)
