Greece (i/ɡriːs/ GREESS; Greek: Ελλάδα, Elláda [eˈlaða]), officially the Hellenic Republic (Greek: Ελληνική Δημοκρατία, Ellīnikī́ Dīmokratía [eliniˈci ðimokraˈti.a]) and known since ancient times as Hellas (/ˈhɛləs/; Greek: Ελλάς, Ellás), is a country located in southeastern Europe. According to the 2011 census, Greece's population is around 10.8 million. Athens is the nation's capital and largest city, followed by Thessaloniki, which is commonly referred to as the co-capital.
Greece is strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Situated on the southern tip of the Balkan peninsula, it shares land borders with Albania to the northwest, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north and Turkey to the northeast. Greece consists of nine geographic regions: Macedonia, Central Greece, the Peloponnese, Thessaly, Epirus, the Aegean Islands (including the Dodecanese and Cyclades), Thrace, Crete, and the Ionian Islands. The Aegean Sea lies to the east of the mainland, the Ionian Sea to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Greece has the longest coastline on the Mediterranean Basin and the 11th longest coastline in the world at 13,676 km (8,498 mi) in length, featuring a vast number of islands, of which 227 are inhabited. Eighty percent of Greece is mountainous, with Mount Olympus being the highest peak at 2,918 metres (9,573 ft).
Protesters took to the streets in Athens for the second day in a row. The country's parliament is set to vote on a new round of austerity measures that would cut incomes for another three years. Josh Sigurdson and John Sneisen break down the latest news out of Greece as the country fails to secure further bailout funds as their economy continues to crash and fall down a bottomless pit. This is the inevitable end of all centrally planned fiat empires, especially those running on a globalist monetary system like the Euro. Greece has gone through bailouts, bail-ins and the populace is buried in debt which makes them especially subservient to their masters. With an unemployment rate of 23.2%, a youth unemployment rate of 47.9% and a labor force participation rate of 51.9%, Greece teeters on the edge of a cliff and it's not getting any better until it's allowed to crash and burn and be rebuilt from scratch by the hand of demand and natural value fluctuation instead of central planni...

The video was shot during the 5th and 6th day of the occupation. This idea to occupy the financial district in New York City was inspired by recent uprisings in Spain, Greece, Egypt, and Tunisia which most of us were following online. Despite of the corporate media's effort to silence the protests, and Yahoo's attempt to to censor it in e-mail communication, the occupation is growing in numbers and spreading to other cities in the US and abroad. Please forward our video to likeminded people via email, facebook, twitter - and make the voices of dissent circulat...

Set amid the global news-storm of September 2015, right up to the demolition of the Calais Jungle in October 2016, Another News Story covers the main news from the refugee crisis, with unique footage of the worldwide press descending on the refugees to cover their migration across Europe. As the news teams focus on the refugees, we turn our cameras on those reporting, with fascinating and often uncomfortable results. In a world of Brexit and Trump, where the phrase of our time has become ‘post-truth’, this feature couldn’t be more timely. The narrative has changed, with growing xenophobia and antagonism towards refugees and immigrants. Central to this is the role the media has played in informing and influencing public and political opinion. We go behind the scenes with the news crews ...

A growing business relationship is developing between China and crisis-ridden Greece, where unemployment is at a record high. Greek companies are increasing exports to the Chinese market, although they are still only one-twentieth of what China sells there. One company just outside Athens, carbonated drinks producer Frutop, has tripled its exports last year, thanks to sales to China. And at the historic sights of Greece, Chinese tourists are arriving in growing numbers - a welcome boost for the country's biggest industry. Mark Lowen reports.

Civilisations with impressive achievements developed during the Bronze Age (approx. 3000 -- 1150 B.C.) in the Northeastern Aegean, the Cyclades (its trademark being the large-sized marble figurines), Crete and the Greek Mainland. The civilisations that flourished during the 2nd Millennium in the two regions, known as the Minoan and the Mycenean Periods respectively, are considered to be the first of the great civilisations in Greece. Architectural remains (e.g. palaces), as well as pottery work, stone carving (vessels, sealstones), metallurgy (vessels, weapons), jewelry making and paintings (murals) were impressive and representative works of these civilisations. Western Civilization has been influenced by many cultures, from Rome to America, but it was born in Ancient Greece. Centuries before Julius Caesar conquered much of the known world, the Ancient Greeks were laying a foundation that has supported nearly 3000 years of European history. Ancient Greece brings to mind philosophers like Aristotle and Socrates, Olympian gods, the beginnings of democracy, great conquering armies like those of Alexander the Great, and savage internecine battles, none more famous than the duel to the death between Athens and Sparta. Greece is a story about the human drive to explore, to wonder, to be curious. Their ruins now communicate that drive. Over 1000 years, this strong and charismatic people strategically harnessed the materials and people around them to cre...

In response to hand-wringing and despair over the economic crisis in Greece, this wordless video celebrates beauty, grace and civilization in the streets of Athens. Taking to the streets and working with the natural hustle and bustle in cities around the world, Jevan Chowdhury’s latest film ‘Moving Athens’ pairs together dance, music and film into one striking piece of art. His stories rely on capturing improvised and raw moments in time while weaving them together into one tapestry of sight and sound. The timing couldn’t have been better. With youth unemployment rates in Greece hovering just below 50%, ‘Moving Athens’ is a testimony to the power of dance. Set against a backdrop of urban decay as well as architectural durability, dancers improvise across a range of dance genres, from ball...

- Greece is one of the countries in Europe with a culture of train-writing that should not be forgotten about. PIGS is a term coined by the business and financial press as a way to refer to Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain during their current financial plight. What started as a pejorative label used by neoconservatives, mainly from English speaking countries, was eventually taken up for some time without any qualms by the media. It is alleged that the PIGS won’t be able to bear the pressure of sharing a common currency with their stronger European brethren. In this analysis, the forced exit of at least some of the PIGS from the Euro would lead soon to the demise of the European currency. Yet...

Mount Pelion remains beautiful all year round with its pristine and diverse beaches, lush forests with miles of hiking trails, skiing in the winter, and picturesque villages that seem to refuse change as they maintain their traditional architecture with warmth and charm.
