Statement from SBS regarding Struggle Street

The first series of Struggle Street gave a voice to those Australians living on the fringes of society. It  provoked an important national debate about the challenges faced by some Australians against a background of hardship and disadvantage which is experienced in a wide range of communities across Australia.

SBS has not yet made a final decision to produce a second series following the success of the first earlier this year. As is standard industry practice, a number of details are being explored, but no decisions have been made.

SBS to serve up a tasty mix of food, cooking, culture & culinary adventure with Food Network

SBS will dish up a 24/7 menu of everyday food inspiration when it launches its new television channel dedicated to the world of food on Tuesday 17 November 2015. The new channel, Food Network, will be available to all Australians across the country for free when it goes live from 1pm AEDT.

 SBS On Demand relaunches as exciting new content destination

SBS is thrilled to announce that its online streaming service SBS On Demand has relaunched today with a new responsive website and an exciting mix of fresh and exclusive content.

SBS On Demand is available on 22 platforms – more than any other Australian broadcaster – and is now the home of content that can only be experienced on the streaming service, including premiere titles and curated collections, all of which will be free for all Australians.

World Movies Celebrates: 20 Years with Rachel Griffiths

 Over 20 breathtaking nights this November, World Movies celebrates 20 years on Foxtel with 20 award-winning, critically-acclaimed films from the last two decades. Hosted by Golden Globe-winning actress Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under, Brothers & Sisters, Muriel’s Wedding), WM Celebrates: 20 Years showcases the world’s most iconic international films featuring big stars, talented directors and the finest stories from across the globe.

Starting weeknights at 8.30pm from Monday 2 November, each night features insights, anecdotes and film trivia from Australian actress Rachel Griffiths, filmed exclusively for World Movies.

SBS announces Hyundai A-League Partners

SBS announces Hyundai, CarsGuide.com.au, Sportsbet and TAC as broadcast partners for the Hyundai A-League on SBS 2.

SBS is once again the only free-to-air broadcaster of the Hyundai A-League, covering Friday night matches throughout the season, live and free to all Australians.

SBS brings powerful new commissioned documentary Black Panther Woman

Directed by Rachel Perkins and produced by Blackfella Films
Sunday 1 November – 9.30pm on SBS

Indigenous woman Marlene Cummins breaks a 40 year silence to tell the story of her abuse in the Australian Black protest movement in the new SBS commissioned documentary Black Panther Woman.

Produced by the multiple Logie award winning Blackfella Films (First Contact; Redfern Now) and directed by Rachel Perkins (Bran Nue Dae; Mabo), the documentary tells Cummins’ moving story, beginning in 1972 when she fell in love with the leader of the Australian Black Panther Party, Denis Walker, and was absorbed into the party’s tumultuous world.

Bella Paige to compete for Australia in Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015

SBS today has announced Bella Paige as the artist who will represent Australia at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, and broadcast on SBS 7.30pm Saturday November 28.

The world’s biggest, small song contest is back… with some huge news. Australia is set to compete for the very first time in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

In a year in which Australia was swept up by Eurovision fever, SBS has now secured another opportunity for Australians to get behind their very own contestant on the world stage.

SBS dishes up Australia’s first free channel for everyday food lovers

 SBS is set to launch Australia’s first free-to-air television channel dedicated to the world of food.

Australian audiences have been coming to SBS for years to discover and explore the world and its cultures through its distinctive food programming. With the launch of this new channel, SBS will bring Australians unprecedented access to a smorgasbord of food, cooking and travel programs inspired by food, handpicked from around the world, alongside some of the network’s much-loved, locally made shows.

The channel will become SBS’s fourth free-to-air channel when it launches on SBS 3 in November, joining the portfolio of SBS, SBS 2 and NITV.

SBS Announces Digital Creative Lab

SBS Manager of Multiplatform and Interactive John-Paul Marin will head up a new team dedicated to innovation within SBS television and online content.

The SBS Digital Creative Lab will bring together a small dedicated group of existing SBS employees in its TV and Online division to lead the strategy, user experience and technical production of an increasing slate of innovation projects encompassing both social TV and interactive storytelling formats on the web.

The Lab will enable SBS to even more broadly adopt digital technology in social TV and online projects, enhance its event programming, build further engagement with SBS audiences and grow its reputation for innovation.

Statement from SBS regarding The Feed

15th August 2015

The idea that Zaky Mallah is being given his own show is completely incorrect.

 

SBS had confirmed to the journalist that this was not true, yet he decided to run with an incorrect headline.

 

A freelance journalist had pitched a potential story idea to The Feed, SBS’s youth news and current affairs program, that could have involved Zaky Mallah in a story segment.

 

The idea was pitched to SBS but no filming had been booked and it had not even progressed past an idea.  

Alex Dimitriades and Aden Young Lead a Fresh New Cast in SBS’s Australian Drama, The Principal

The Four-Part Crime Drama Screens Over Two Big weeks, starting 8.30pm, Wednesday, 7 October and continuing 8.30pm, Thursday, 8 October on SBS.

For the first time in three years, and starting on Wednesday, 7 October at 8.30pm, SBS will premiere its new and original Australian crime drama series, The Principal.

Poh & Co. secures second season on SBS

 After a successful debut series in 2015, SBS has commissioned a second season of the popular Poh & Co., hosted by the charming, warm and disarmingly honest cook and visual artist Poh Ling Yeow.

“I'm back! And I have so much more to share. It’s all about playing shop this time around as our market stall Jamface continues to boom and I get busy fitting out my own commercial kitchen. I also look into some super creative outdoor art projects, and of course, I have a mountain of delicious food and recipes ready to go.
