Shelia Fedrick, 49, rescued a girl from human trafficking after spotting the disheveled teen on a plane. The Alaska Airlines flight attendant noticed she was sitting next to a well-dressed man. Fedrick left the girl a note in the bathroom to which she responded that she was in need of help. Fedrick told the pilot and contacted police.

A street-art mural featuring Muslim feminist activists and artists has been vandalised. The Melbourne artwork displayed five well-known Saudi women in headscarves, with pink spray paint stencilling the words 'radical Muslim' and poetry. But on Saturday night, the paste-up of the contemporary showpiece was targeted after the women's faces were covered in black paint. Saudi-Australian artist Ms Saffaa - who collaborated on the mural with other graffiti artists - described the incident as a 'personal attack on Muslim women'.

Society figure Jock Lewes (left), a former captain of Oxford University Boat Club, was one of two officers who became national heroes when they created the SAS, a unit that went on to help secure an Allied victory in the Second World War. The revelations feature in a BBC documentary airing tonight which is based on Ben Macintyre's book, Rogue Heroes.

With officers staging a walk-out over conditions, thugs are running riot in Brazil, with people running rampant with guns and machetes, shops being robbed, buses set on fire and dead bodies are left lying in the street. The chaos has been compared to the 2014 thriller film The Purge where a lawless night of terror leads to horrific crimes. Schools have been closed and even football matches cancelled in the affected areas due to the lack of security, which has meant many people are refusing to even venture outdoors.

Residents of a block of flats in Russia have been left furious after a combination of a broken drain and sub-zero temperatures left them with a tower of frozen raw sewage in their building - which authorities have refused to deal with. Families living in the building in the town of Serov, in central Russia's Sverdlovsk Oblast region, have lodged a formal complaint with local housing chiefs saying the icicle of frozen urine and faeces is a public health hazard. They are demanding urgent repair works to resolve the disgusting problem - before temperatures rise and the frozen waste thaws.

A Canberra teenager who started an online petition in a desperate attempt to eat meat pies again is 'stoked' he can enjoy the classic Aussie fare once more. Ryan Kennedy, 14, (pictured left and right) turned to change.org seeking 'justice' after he was left devastated at the prospect of never being able to eat a meat pie again after a bet with mates went horribly wrong. The Tuggeranong Valley Cricket Club player made a bet with his teammates on Saturday he would score 50 in a match but didn't. In just a few short hours, the petition exceeded the 250 required signatures. Ryan told Daily Mail Australia: 'I am absolutely stoked with the result'.

A stricken BMW driver had to be winched to safety after he followed his sat nav into a river. Emergency services raced to the scene in Carmarthen, South Wales, to rescue the motorist when his car became almost completely submerged. Fortunately the man escaped with his life - but police are now warning drivers of the dangers of using sat navs.
