The Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act) came into operation in January 2014 to encourage public officials to disclose suspected wrongdoing in the Commonwealth public sector.

What’s new
- Agency guide - the Ombudsman’s office has released a revised Agency guide to the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013.
- Review - An Independent Review of the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 was concluded in July by Mr Philip Moss, the former Integrity Commissioner and head of the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity. The Ombudsman’s office made a submission to the review, which you can view here. Mr Moss delivered the review report to the Minister assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service, Senator the hon. Michaelia Cash on 15 July 2016. The report must be tabled within 15 Parliamentary sitting days, and is not yet publicly available. Further details about the review can be found on the PM&C website.
- Whistleblowing research – The Commonwealth Ombudsman is a partner in a major research project into managerial responses to whistleblowing in the public and private sector organisations. To learn more about the research project, visit the website.
Public officials who suspect wrongdoing within the Commonwealth public sector can raise their concerns under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013.
