Infamous drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who daringly escaped prison on July 11, utilized a tunnel leading from the only “supermax” maximum-security prison in Mexico, where he'd been held. At least that's the explanation Mexican authorities have given as to how the leader of the Sinaloa cartel escaped prison for the second time. In the aftermath of the escape, VICE News went to Almoloya de Juarez to inspect the exit of the tunnel that “El Chapo" allegedly used, and spoke with an activist and former inmate of Altiplano prison who claims to have discovered flaws in the authorities’ version of events. Some were caught trying to enter the US illegally, others had lived in the US - without papers - for years. Spanish/Nat European diplomats were voicing their interest in the Mexican economy at a press conference in Mexico City on Thursday. Future trade between the two is seen as promising and full of potential. However, Mexico needs to rectify its poor human rights records before European investors give this Central American country their vote of confidence. On Thursday in Mexico City, the British Ambassador to Mexico Adrian Beamish, and Jacques Lecomte, the Ambassador for the European Union in Mexico, gave a press conference in which they outlined their objectives for bringing Mexico and Europe closer together. This is the second part of two parts relating the personal experiences of hobo Rishayan en Mexico, as it relates to his need for medical and dental care. www.facebook.com/homelessblogs. The first part is called " Healthcare In Mexico For American Hobo Real Experience "
Just a decade ago, half of all Mexicans — 52 million people — had no health insurance. As many as 4 million families a year faced financial ruin because of catastrophic illness, like breast cancer. Today, those same families have access to treatment because of Seguro Popular. The universal health care initiative, launched in 2003 and largely powered by Harvard research, is funded with less than 1 percent of the country’s GDP. It has gradually expanded to cover a range of catastrophic illnesses. Breast cancer, with its fast-rising rates and ever-younger victims, was added in 2007. To read more, visit http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2015/01/escalating-the-fight-against-breast-cancer/.

Mexico’s notoriously violent drug cartels are diversifying. Besides trafficking narcotics, extorting businesses, and brutally murdering their rivals, cartels are now at work exploiting their country’s precious number one export: oil. Every day as many as 10,000 barrels of crude oil are stolen from Mexico’s state-run oil company, Pemex, through precarious illegal taps, which are prone to deadly accidents. Pemex estimates that it loses $5 billion annually in stolen oil, some of which ends up being sold over the border in US gas stations. As police fight the thieves, and the cartels fight each other, the number of victims caught in...
Border agents say they discovered more than a ton of drug stuffed into fake carrots mixed in with shipment of the real thing at the U.S.-Mexico border. Texas officials say they found 2,493 pounds of drug on Sunday after an imaging system flagged the truck transporting the produce for a secondary examination while it was crossing the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge along the Texas-Mexico border near the Gulf of Mexico. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $500,000, said authorities. Police say that nearly 3,000 carrot-shaped packages were mixed in with real carrots, according to CNN. Officers were able to fill up two pickup trucks with the allegedly smuggled drugs. The case is currently under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security. 'Once again, drug smuggling...

MEXICALI, MEXICO — A Honduran national admitted Wednesday in the federal court in San Diego that he tried to smuggle about 25 kilos cocaine across the Mexico-U.S. border using an underwater tunnel, EFE reported. Border Patrol agents discovered a soaked Evelio Padilla-Zepeda, 28, in a wetsuit next to the All-American Canal, about 7 miles east of Calexico, California, on April 25. Near him, they found a breathing tank with a rebreather, to prevent surface bubbles, and 25 vacuum-sealed and giftwrapped packages, containing a total of 25 kilos of cocaine. That led Border Patrol agents to the discovery of a 45 meter-long underwater tunnel that began in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico and ended under the water of the All-American Canal. We investigate this deadly battle, with daring access to major and minor players and exclusive archive footage. Following the capture of the Cali cocaine 'cartel' leader, a retaliation bomb is detonated in Medellin. Removing Cali cartel leaders has done nothing to halt the drug trade. In Cali, 'Pepe', a drug trafficker, makes $4,000 a month while a slum family tells the tragic story of their cocaine-courier father. Focusing on the government's renewed f...
Despite the United Nations confirming in 2013 that Peru has overtaken Colombia as the world's top coca and cocaine producer, the country’s place atop the drug supply chain has — at least so far — not included the levels of violence seen in Colombia, Mexico, and other international narcotics hubs. The frontlines of Peru’s war on cocaine are restricted to remote coca-producing basins, where drug laboratories and illegal landing strips are abundant. But the government’s campaign of crop eradication and efforts to destroy narco runways risk further igniting a larger social conflict, alienating the coca farmers whose livelihoods depend on growing the illicit crop. VICE News traveled to the heart of Peru’s coca-producing region to witness how the government is waging a war on drugs with the ai...

Travel video about destination Mexico. Mexico, land of the Maya and Aztec, temples and beaches and with a population of twenty-six million the bubbling metropolis of Mexico City is a maze of streets, flat roofs, skyscrapers and parks. Earthquakes, floods and civil wars created this ‘City Of The Aztecs’. Templo Mayor, the main temple of the Aztecs, lies in the centre of the city, in the large main square, Zocalo. The magnificent Catedral Metropolitana with its massive dimensions and fine stone masonry dominates the square, with equal prominence being given to the Palacinio Nacional, governmental seat of the Mexican President. In 1519, when the Spanish conquerors reached Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztec kingdom, they discovered a lagoon paradise with floating gardens, Xochimilco, a labyrin...

The streets of this district overflow with museums and galleries. For a window into the life and color of yesteryear, visit the fabulous Museo Franz Mayer. Travel video about destination Mexico City in Mexico. Mexico City is a vivid metropolis and cosmopolitan city situated on a plateau in the central highlands at an altitude of 2, 286 metres, where the food is spicy and the Tequila flows freely! The city's fascinating history is reflected in both its art and architecture with age old charm, Indian roots and elegant buildings. Until the Spanish conquest, the Templo Mayor was the setting of coronations and human sacrifice. The remains of the walls within which thousands of priests once lived are only a few steps from the buildings of the country's former Spanish conquerors. Construction of the country's largest cathedral, the Catedral Metropolitana, took 250 years. The lower section is quite plain but the upper section is of Baroque and Neo-...

In Mexico City, protesters took a swing at a pinata with the likeness of US presidential candidate Donald Trump. By doing this, they are calling on Americans to vote against the controversial candidate and denouncing his anti-Mexican comments, such as his promise to build a wall on the border and to make Mexico pay for it.

Listen to the full audiobook: http://easyget.us/mabk/30/en/B00E9Z0Z5W/book The eighteenth century in New Spain witnessed major changes: among these, one of the most significant was the adoption of French customs among the upper groups of society in response to the spreading ideas of the Enlightenment. In addition, New Spain's economy and culture were also changing radically. The spread of these French-inspired ideas and customs soon reached the rest of urban society. These new ideas, it has been assumed, brought a relaxation of social customs. But Viqueira Alban takes this assumption, and raises the question: Was it really a period of relaxation of social customs, in this age of "growth without development?" He discovered that the movement of rural workers and their families to urban cente...

(La vida en la Ciudad de México) Hola, I'm Nik from Malaysia. I have been living here for almost 5 months now and being an asian (Malay) in Mexico in general was a unique challenge of fitting in at first, but then it turned out really well and a lot simpler than it seemed. Every time my friends asking me about my new life in Mexico, I sometimes lack the right words to convey all I am experiencing. So, here it is, bienvenidos a México! Recorded with iPhone 6.
