Lillete Dubey (born 7 September 1953) is an Indian actress who has worked in theatre, television and Bollywood films.
Dubey was born in Pune as Lillete kiswani to a Sindhi Hindu family. Her father, Govind Kiswani, was an engineer who worked with Indian Railways, and her mother, Leela, was a gynaecologist. The widespread belief that Dubey is a Christian or of mixed-race parentage is totally incorrect. Her father wanted to give her a "modern" sounding name, and came up with "Lillete" as a faux-French derivation of her mother's name, Leela, with the intended meaning being "little Leela." Dubey, however, never liked her name "from day one."
Dubey is the eldest of three siblings. She has a sister, Lushin (named after Ilyushin, a Russian aircraft), and a brother, Patanjali, named in honour of the ancient rishi who compiled the Yoga Sutras. Lushin is the wife of Pradeep Dubey, a noted academic.
Dubey has appeared in numerous movies, including Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding co-starring Nasiruddin Shah, Kal Ho Naa Ho, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Jaya Bachchan, Baghban alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Bow Barracks Forever alongside her daughter Neha Dubey, and Housefull alongside Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a 2012 British comedy-drama film, directed by John Madden. The screenplay, written by Ol Parker, is based on the 2004 novel These Foolish Things, by Deborah Moggach, and features an ensemble cast consisting of Judi Dench, Celia Imrie, Bill Nighy, Ronald Pickup, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson and Penelope Wilton, as a group of British pensioners moving to a retirement hotel in India, run by the young and eager Sonny, played by Dev Patel. The movie was produced by Participant Media and Blueprint Pictures on a budget of $10 million.
Producers Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin first saw the potential for a film in Deborah Moggach's novel with the idea of exploring the lives of the elderly beyond what one would expect of their age group. With the assistance of screenwriter Ol Parker, they came up with a script in which they take the older characters completely out of their element and involve them in a romantic comedy.
Principal photography began on 10 October 2010 in India, and most of the filming took place in the Indian state of Rajasthan, including the cities of Jaipur and Udaipur. Ravla Khempur, an equestrian hotel which was originally the palace of a tribal chieftain in the village of Khempur, was chosen as the site for the film hotel.
The Second is the second studio album by Canadian-American rock band Steppenwolf, released in 1968 on ABC Dunhill Records. The album contains one of Steppenwolf's most famous songs, "Magic Carpet Ride". The background of the original ABC LP cover was a shiny "foil", in contrast to later (MCA Records) LP issues and the modern CD sleeve.
Featuring a style incorporating psychedelic music as well as aggressive hard rock, the release has received critical acclaim both when it came out as well as in later years. For example, Allmusic critic Bruce Eder stated that, though "highly derivative" of their first album, The Second had "very hard and edgy" tracks with the band "in excellent form".
All tracks composed by John Kay, except where indicated.
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a 2015 British comedy-drama film directed by John Madden and written by Ol Parker.
