Anjan Dutt (Bengali: অঞ্জন দত্ত 'Añjan Datta') (19 January 1953) is an Indian singer- songwriter of the 1990s Bengali music scene defined by anyodharar gaan (alternative music). Anjan Dutt's style of music is different from the others in the sense that it has simple tunes, one that is reminiscent of western folk music. His lyrics are simple and more natural. Anjan's music is somewhat influenced by blues, bluegrass, folk and country music. He is the first Bengali artist to depend more on the saxophone. He is an admitted fan of Bob Dylan and his Bengali contemporary Kabir Suman.
Anjan is also an accomplished actor. He started his career as an actor in Bengali cinema. His first film was Chalachitro directed by Mrinal Sen, where he won the prize for the best newcomer actor, at the Venice Film Festival. Recently, he has acted in Aparna Sen's film, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer. Anjan Dutt may be regarded as one of the best serious actors in the Indian serious cinema movement, that has seen the likes of Mrinal Sen's much-esteemed film "Bhuvan Som". Anjan Dutt has been regarded by some as being the 'angry young man' of serious cinema in contemporary India. He is also a national award winning filmamker and is one of the most prominent directors of Bengali Cinema. He has directed movies like The Bong Connection, Chalo Let's Go, Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona and many more. In recent years he has been directing Byomkesh Bakshi movie series, a fictional detective in Bengali literature created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay.
A music director may be the director of an orchestra or concert band, the director of music for a film, the director of music at a radio station, the head of the music department in a school, the coordinator of the musical ensembles in a university, college, or institution (but not usually the head of the academic music department), the head bandmaster of a military band, the head organist and choirmaster of a church, or an Organist and Master of the Choristers (a title given to a Director of Music at a cathedral, particularly in England).
The title of "music director" or "musical director" is used by many symphony orchestras to designate the primary conductor and artistic leader of the orchestra. The term "music director" is most common for orchestras in the United States. With European orchestras, the titles of "principal conductor" or "chief conductor" are more common, which designate the conductor who directs the majority of a given orchestra's concerts in a season. In musical theatre and opera, the music director is in charge of the overall musical performance, including ensuring that the cast knows the music thoroughly, supervising the musical interpretation of the performers and pit orchestra, and conducting the orchestra.
Kabir Suman (born Suman Chattopadhyay; 16 March 1950) is an Indian singer, songwriter, musician, music director, poet, journalist, political activist, TV presenter, and occasional actor. From May 2009 to 2014, he was a member of parliament of India in the 15th Lok Sabha, having been elected from the Jadavpur constituency in Kolkata on an All India Trinamool Congress ticket.
He changed his name from Suman Chattopadhay to Kabir Suman (Bangla: কবীর সুমন) when he became a Muslim and married the noted Bangladeshi singer Sabina Yasmin (he was already married to his German wife and polygamy is prohibited in India except among Muslims). He shot to fame in the 1990s with albums such as Tomake Chai (I Want You) and Boshe Anko (Sit-and-Draw).
Suman was born in a Bengali Hindu Brahmin family on 16 March 1949 to Sudhindranath and Uma Chattopadhyay at Cuttack, Odisha. He later converted to Bengali Muslim. He was trained in classical music in his childhood, under the tutelage of this father. He graduated with an honours in English Literature from Jadavpur University and did a diploma in French language and German language. He then worked briefly in All India Radio and the United Bank of India. He left for Guatemala and worked there in radio latter for Europe in the mid seventies, and worked as a radio journalist in the Voice of Germany (Bengali Department) during 1975 to 1979. It is during this period that he heard the music of Bob Dylan in France, which became one of his most defining musical experiences.
Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona (Bengali: রঞ্জনা আমি আর আসবনা, English: Ranjana, I will not come back again) is a 2011 Bengali language Indian rock musical drama film by Anjan Dutt. The film won three national film awards in 2011 including best music direction and best feature film in Bengali.
Anjan Dutt, Amyt Datta, Lew Hilt, Nondon Bagchi, all in their mid-50's are members of a successful Bangla-band. They go for a show in North Bengal where Ranjana performs a small opening salutation. Anjan Dutt asks Ranjana (Parno Mittra) to come and meet him in Kolkata and promises to help her in recording her solo. Once in Kolkata, Ranjana stays at Anjan's house with him and his housekeeper, Kanchan Mullick. One night Anjan tries to seduce Ranjana but due to too much drinking and he faints allowing Ranjana to run. But she stays and nourishes him. This changes Anjan's attitude towards her and he teaches her music.
After much insisting, an audio company agrees to record Ranjana's song but no one is interested. Anjan seeks help of his journalist friend and books a primetime show on a top news channel to promote her.
A song is a single (and often standalone) work of music intended to be sung by the human voice with distinct and fixed pitches and patterns using sound and silence and a variety of forms that often include the repetition of sections. Written words created specifically for music or for which music is specifically created, are called lyrics. If a pre-existing poem is set to composed music in classical music it is an art song. Songs that are sung on repeated pitches without distinct contours and patterns that rise and fall are called chants. Songs in a simple style that are learned informally are often referred to as folk songs. Songs that are composed for professional singers are called popular songs. These songs, which have broad appeal, are often composed by professional songwriters, composers and lyricists. Art songs are composed by trained classical composers for concert performances. Songs are performed live and recorded. Songs may also appear in plays, musical theatre, stage shows of any form, and within operas.

And therefore no respite for Anjan Dutta, the singer-actor-director, wherever he goes. When, for instance, he visited a fair, apparently for web magazines in Bengali, Anjan Dutta and his son Neel Dutta had to oblige the visitors with these two and many more memorable numbers. Calcalling, one of the principal participants at Bengal Web Fair, was lucky to be there and record it live for you. The father-son-duo certainly enthr...
