There's a right way and a wrong way to prepare absinthe. Absinthe is never supposed to be served as a shot. It should always be diluted with water and sweetened with sugar. Also, contrary to popular belief, fire should play no part in the absinthe preparation process. Absinthe purist would never use fire because it serves no purpose other than to create a spectacle.

GIRLS TRIP FLAMING ABSINTHE STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE
2 oz. (60ml) Strawberry Vodka
1 oz. (30ml) Red Absinthe
6 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream
4 Strawberries
Absinthe Spray
Garnish: Flaming Strawberry
PREPARATION
1. In a blender, combine vanilla ice cream, strawberry vodka, and red Absinthe. Blend until smooth.
2. Use a mister and a match to spray Absinthe into a glass and pour the mix in.
3. Place a hollowed strawberry on the edge of the glass and pour more absinthe in. Carefully light using a match. Enjoy responsibly!

Everyone in the office is a winner this week as Michael Truly and Chris Legarce of Why Would You Eat That? explore the bohemian sensation -- absinthe. This chartreuse-colored liquor is made by distilling fennel, wormwood, and anise after a fermentation process. It then gets its traditional milky green color from the slow addition of sugar. The heavy licorice-tasting alcohol became popular in France after bugs killed grapes and people didn't have wine. Then people drank too much and because man-eating zombies or murders or something... Absinthe (
i/ˈæbsɪnθ/ or /ˈæbsænθ/; French: [apsɛ̃t]) is historically described as a distilled, highly alcoholic (45–74% ABV / 90–148 U.S. proof) beverage. It is an anise-flavoured spirit derived from botanicals, including the flowers and leaves of Artemisia absinthium ("grand wormwood"), together with green anise, sweet fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs. Absinthe traditionally has a natural green colour but may also be colourless. It is commonly referred to in historical literature as "la fée verte" (the green fairy). Although it is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a liqueur, absinthe is not traditionally bottled with added sugar; it is therefore classified as a spirit. Absinthe is traditionally bottled at a high level of alcohol by volume, but it is normally diluted with water prior to being consumed.
Absinthe originated in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland in the late 18th century. It rose to great popularity as an alcoholic drink in late 19th- and early 20th-century France, particularly among Parisian artists and writers. Owing in part to its association with bohemian culture, the consumption of absinthe was opposed by social conservatives and prohibitionists. Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Marcel Proust, Aleister Crowley, Erik Satie and Alfred Jarry were all known absinthe drinkers.

Today we are making a flaming absinthe drink inspired by the new movie "Girls Trip". Joining us is one of the movie's stars, Regina Hall!

Here's the recipe:
GIRLS TRIP FLAMING ABSINTHE STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE
2 oz. (60ml) Strawberry Vodka
1 oz. (30ml) Red Absinthe
6 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream
4 Strawberries
Absinthe Spray
Garnish: Flaming Strawberry
PREPARATION
1. In a blender, combine vanilla ice cream, strawberry vodka, and red Absinthe. Blend until smooth.
2. Use a mister and a match to spray Absinthe into a glass and pour the mix in.
3. Place a hollowed strawberry on the edge of the glass and pour more absinthe in. Carefully light using a match. Enjoy responsibly!

This week's licorice flavored green spirit is more commonly associated with France, bohemians, and slowly going insane as wormwood turns parts of your brain to sponge. Everyone in the office is a winner this week as Michael Truly and Chris Legarce of Why Would You Eat That? explore the bohemian sensation -- absinthe. This chartreuse-colored liquor is made by distilling fennel, wormwood, and anise after a fermentation process. It then gets its traditional milky green color from the slow addition of sugar. The heavy licorice-tasting alcohol became popular in France after bugs killed grapes and people didn't have wine. Then people drank too much and because man-eating zombies or murders or something... Just watch the episode, it'll tell you. Plus, you can see what happens when we drink it in the office.
