7 Things You Didn't Know About The Courier (in text form)
7. While not much of the Courier’s backstory is known, there are some bits of information that appear in dialogue with certain npc’s. The backstory for the Courier is, in some instances, varied by player choice. For example; The Courier can tell Cass that they do not know what fish is. Or, on the contrary: an intelligent Courier may test her knowledge about fish, clearly aware of their nature although they are practically non-existent in California or the Mojave Wasteland and may only be found in Lake Mead or Zion Canyon.
6. In the opening cutscene, the Courier can be briefly seen wearing a recolored male version of the caravaneer outfit with a light colored cowboy hat, along with some tan work gloves.
5. Before setting off to New Canaan, the Courier can tell Jed Masterson that they have not been to Utah in some time, suggesting that they have been there before. This also explains how the Courier knows the Dead Horses' and the Sorrows' languages, which is itself implied by a Dead Horse scout who remarks upon being spoken with, "You know our tongue - smart owslander."
4. The Courier was shown wearing an armored Vault 21 jumpsuit during Fallout: New Vegas previews and in the ending. However, this item does not appear in-game, and can only be obtained using console commands.
3. The Player’s journey as the Courier starts, officially, on October 19, 2281, at 8AM. The Second Battle of Hoover Dam also takes place in 2281. This means that not a lot of time takes place between the start and end of Fallout New Vegas.
2. A male Courier with the Lady Killer perk can ask if the Lonesome Drifter is 17, and then express relief after the Drifter says he is 28, implying the Courier impregnated (or believes he impregnated) a woman in Montana around 18 years ago.
1. Though it is never thoroughly explained in the game, there is a reason why Ulysses doesn’t like the Courier. Chris Avellone, one of the designers of Fallout New Vegas, said the following about how the Divide became a hell-hole, and in turn, why Ulysses hates the Courier.
NCR sacks Navarro in the West, recovers a bunch of tech they don't understand, as history has proven. They do, however, recognize the symbols (American flag, silo stencils, etc.) and recognize it might be tied to the same symbols and markings the NCR found at the Divide. NCR hires a Courier to take the item there, to the Divide. They don't think for a second that anything bad will happen as a result, and neither does the player. Player delivers package, then leaves. The package is a detonator that contains missile launch codes that just needs to get within range and start chatting with launch computers. So it does. As Ulysses says, the package "wakes up," sends the detonation signal to missiles locked in silo, earthquakes and storms result. Post-apocalyptic wasteland because even more Post-apocalyptic. Fragments of package (along with everything else in Divide) scatter, are scavenged and rebuilt, package ends up in a new frame. Some time later, Ulysses, along with 6 other couriers, is hired to carry a new package. He sees the Player’s name, and quits, heading back to the Divide to wait.

A courier is a person who delivers messages, packages, and mail.
Duties and functions
Couriers are distinguished from ordinary mail services by features such as speed, security, tracking, signature, specialization and individualization of express services, and swift delivery times, which are optional for most everyday mail services. As a premium service, couriers are usually more expensive than standard mail services, and their use is normally limited to packages where one or more of these features are considered important enough to warrant the cost.

Before the industrial era
In ancient history, runners and homing pigeons and riders on horseback were used to deliver timely messages. Before there were mechanized courier services, foot messengers physically ran miles to their destinations. To this day, there are marathons directly related to actual historical messenger routes. In the Middle Ages, royal courts maintained their own messengers who were paid little more than common labourers.

7 Things You Didn't Know About The Courier (in text form)
7. While not much of the Courier’s backstory is known, there are some bits of information that appear in dialogue with certain npc’s. The backstory for the Courier is, in some instances, varied by player choice. For example; The Courier can tell Cass that they do not know what fish is. Or, on the contrary: an intelligent Courier may test her knowledge about fish, clearly aware of their nature although they are practically non-existent in California or the Mojave Wasteland and may only be found in Lake Mead or Zion Canyon.
6. In the opening cutscene, the Courier can be briefly seen wearing a recolored male version of the caravaneer outfit with a light colored cowboy hat, along with some tan work gloves.
5. Before setting off to New Canaan, the Courier can tell Jed Masterson that they have not been to Utah in some time, suggesting that they have been there before. This also explains how the Courier knows the Dead Horses' and the Sorrows' languages, which is itself implied by a Dead Horse scout who remarks upon being spoken with, "You know our tongue - smart owslander."
4. The Courier was shown wearing an armored Vault 21 jumpsuit during Fallout: New Vegas previews and in the ending. However, this item does not appear in-game, and can only be obtained using console commands.
3. The Player’s journey as the Courier starts, officially, on October 19, 2281, at 8AM. The Second Battle of Hoover Dam also takes place in 2281. This means that not a lot of time takes place between the start and end of Fallout New Vegas.
2. A male Courier with the Lady Killer perk can ask if the Lonesome Drifter is 17, and then express relief after the Drifter says he is 28, implying the Courier impregnated (or believes he impregnated) a woman in Montana around 18 years ago.
1. Though it is never thoroughly explained in the game, there is a reason why Ulysses doesn’t like the Courier. Chris Avellone, one of the designers of Fallout New Vegas, said the following about how the Divide became a hell-hole, and in turn, why Ulysses hates the Courier.
NCR sacks Navarro in the West, recovers a bunch of tech they don't understand, as history has proven. They do, however, recognize the symbols (American flag, silo stencils, etc.) and recognize it might be tied to the same symbols and markings the NCR found at the Divide. NCR hires a Courier to take the item there, to the Divide. They don't think for a second that anything bad will happen as a result, and neither does the player. Player delivers package, then leaves. The package is a detonator that contains missile launch codes that just needs to get within range and start chatting with launch computers. So it does. As Ulysses says, the package "wakes up," sends the detonation signal to missiles locked in silo, earthquakes and storms result. Post-apocalyptic wasteland because even more Post-apocalyptic. Fragments of package (along with everything else in Divide) scatter, are scavenged and rebuilt, package ends up in a new frame. Some time later, Ulysses, along with 6 other couriers, is hired to carry a new package. He sees the Player’s name, and quits, heading back to the Divide to wait.
