St Abbs is a small fishing village on the southeastern coast of Scotland, within the Coldingham parish of Berwickshire.
The village was originally known as Coldingham Shore, the name St Abbs being adopted in the 1890s. The new name was derived from St Abb's Head, a rocky promontory located to the north of the village, itself named after the 7th century saint Æbbe of Coldingham.
St Abbs was originally called Coldingham Shore. Prior to any buildings the fishermen who worked their boats from the beach resided at Fisher's Brae in Coldingham. These fishermen had to carry their fishing gear the one and a half miles down a path. The path is now known as the Creel Path; creel is the local name for a lobster pot.
The first building in St Abbs was constructed about the middle of the 18th century followed later by a row of five cottages. This first row of houses were constructed in a traditional Scottish style with a central fire and a wide chimney. The walls were constructed of "clat and clay" a framework of wood interlaced with straw and daubed over with moist clay.

The picturesque small fishing village of St Abbs is usually a hub for divers, but it was very quiet ,probably to do with the sea conditions
The best laid plans of Mice and Men..............The plan was, we rendezvous at North Berwick, paddle to Bass Rock, out to the Isle of May, explore said Isle, encountering it's Flora, and Fauna, land on the Fife shore, Camp out, sample Scotland's finest Chipshop, try out dark ales, and exotic Women, return up the Forth, exploring many picturesque Harbours, and finally cross back to North Berwick, much more Worldly wise, with tales to tell, that would enchant generations to come!!!............We got as far as Bass Rock.....and even then, the return was a 'mare, barely making headway, at times, into the teeth of a westerly, that would shear the wool off Chewbacca. So the day after, nursing a wrist strain, I was keen to have an easy, relaxing day. Down to St Abbs, is about half an hour, from ...
bumpy journey down from st.abbs head in the scottish borders
Went on a trip to the East Coast for what was expected to be a long slow day but with the chance of some very good fish. Well I only got four encounters that day and they were all from decent fish... First fish cut my line on a snag, second fish got unhooked with the help of kelp (?).The only fish of the day landed, was a nice pollock that threw the hook whilst at my feet (I was precariously perched on a rock ledge!) and I then lost possibly the biggest fish of the day from a bad hook up (hook was slightly bent and blunt from a snag-up, with the fish taking soon after unsnagging the lure). Not exactly the most productive of days but I still felt it was worth the trip.. Interesting to note the lack of coalies and Im pretty certain that all the fish were pollock. I think we're gonna have an...

Dougie Baird travels to the fishing village of St Abbs on the North sea
Historic Berwick upon Tweed is the most northerly town on the Northumberland coast and has been a thriving trading centre and international port from as early as the 12th and 13th centuries. It was a Royal Burgh of Scotland in 1120 and during the many centuries of border warfare changed hands no fewer than 14 times, the last being in 1482. Eyemouth: The Eye water flows north into the North Sea here and the natural harbour formed by the river mouth has been used as far back as the 1200's, and probably much further. During Henry V111's incursions into Scotland during the 1540's the English used the port and built an artillery fort on the east side of the Eye Water. This occupied the area behind the site used in 1755 for one of Eyemouts's most distintive buildings, Gunsgreen House. Th...

Amazing day on the sea with James, Neil, Alan & Steven. Little trip past St Abbs cliffs, followed by BBQ on the beach. Then headed back to Coldingham with a minke whale to keep us company. Finally a little surfing to end the day!

Better video (hopefully) of this sight as torch fully charged this time. More of the cave and a large lobster along with the rest (i won't spoil it for you). The octopus on the other video was on this dive also. Quite a large swell running but i would say more waves but not to bad as we were sheltered inact it was flat calm where we started as we were round the corner but where we surfaced at the Pinnacle it was choppy there.

This is my 2 night coastal wild camp in Berwickshire within the Scottish Borders with St Abbs and Coldingham being the closest access points. I part walk the Berwickshire Coastal trail which is part of a Long Distance Trail associated with the Northumberland Coastal Trail. I enjoy a beautiful night round the camp fire but it interrupted by one of the worst lightning thunderstorms in UK history. My dilemma is explained! On reflection my decision was perhaps panic driven but the circumstances were extreme and as I comment I was actually BRICKING IT!
Do I have to do sit-ups, if I want to be a rock star?
Do I have to make millions, if I want to be free?
Should I come with a cliché?
Should I hide in a big car?
You say the money doesn't matter.
Well, let's check and see.
Cause you look sexy.
You look fine.
How I wish that you were mine.
You look sexy.
You look hot.
Is that really all you got?
In the end, you pretend, you're my friend but you're not.
Tell me that I'm going to be the king of the world.
I know it's never going to happen but if you could be mine.
I will wake in the morning and I'll look at your beautiful face.
I know it's going to be a wonderful day.
Did you want to be a hooker?
Or did you want to be a model?
Well, did you want to be famous?
Did you want to be free?
I can see that you're a looker, but keep your love in a bottle.
And your skimpy clothes will go a long, long way with me.
You look sexy.
You look fine.
How I wish that you were mine.
You look sexy.
You look hot.
Is that really all you got?
In the end, you pretend, cause I don't want to stop.
Chorus
Through the smog the sky is blue and angels all were sinners too.
And baby I'll be good to you.
If you tell me what you want I'm going to do that to you.
Chorus
It's going to be a wonderful day.
Look at your beautiful face.
