Oklahoma City (Pawnee: Uukuhuuwasiri ) is the capital and the largest city in the US state of Oklahoma. The county seat of Oklahoma County, the city ranks 31st among United States cities in population. The city's population, from the 2010 census, was 579,999, with a metro-area population of 1,252,987 . In 2010, the Oklahoma City-Shawnee Combined Statistical Area had a population of 1,322,249 residents. Oklahoma City's city limits extend into Canadian, Cleveland, and Pottawatomie counties, though much of those areas outside of the core Oklahoma County area are suburban or rural (watershed). The city ranks as the eighth-largest city in the United States by land area (including consolidated city-counties; it is the largest city in the United States by land area whose government is not consolidated with that of a county).
Oklahoma City features one of the largest livestock markets in the world. Oil, natural gas, petroleum products and related industries are the largest sector of the local economy. The city is situated in the middle of an active oil field and oil derricks dot the capitol grounds. The federal government employs large numbers of workers at Tinker Air Force Base and the United States Department of Transportation's Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center. (These two sites house several offices of the Federal Aviation Administration and the Transportation Department's Enterprise Service Center, respectively.)
Oklahoma (i/ˌoʊkləˈhoʊmə/) (Pawnee: Uukuhuúwa , Cayuga: Gahnawiyoˀgeh ) is a state located in the South Central region of the United States of America. Oklahoma is the 20th most extensive and the 28th most populous of the 50 United States. The state's name is derived from the Choctaw words okla and humma, meaning "red people", and it is known informally by its nickname, The Sooner State. Formed by the combination of Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory on November 16, 1907, Oklahoma was the 46th state to enter the union. Its residents are known as Oklahomans or, informally "Okies", and its capital and largest city is Oklahoma City.
A major producer of natural gas, oil, and agriculture, Oklahoma relies on an economic base of aviation, energy, telecommunications, and biotechnology. It has one of the fastest growing economies in the nation, ranking among the top states in per capita income growth and gross domestic product growth. Oklahoma City and Tulsa serve as Oklahoma's primary economic anchors, with nearly 60 percent of Oklahomans living in their metropolitan statistical areas.
Betty was a blonde blue eyed baby
Who marked her first birthday on easter morning
but her parents had other reasons to celebrate that day
Betty had just learnt to walk by herself
and her mother's got a new job just downtown
cross from the Phillip P. Murrah in an office tower
But they don't like to see the children play
they don't like the government so what have they done
all the toys are covered in blood
a little fire truck is broken
Well I guess that they think it'd be better
to reign down in hell
than to serve up in heaven
well the devil's got a seat next to him
Oh Timmy, he's waiting
Where was god?
and don't you tell us how he works in mysterious ways?
for when all is lost we're tired
of hearing that line
Where was god?
and do you think that she'll find the faith that she needs?
for when all is lost and gone... and gone...
well they don't like to see the children play
they don't like the government so what have they done
all the toys are covered in blood
a little fire truck is broken... is broken...
where was god?
they don't like to see the children play
don't you tell us how he works in mysterious ways
they don't like the government so what have they done
for when all is lost and gone... and gone...
But at least we have our thoughts to remember
the pictures of you, we treasured a few
never forget that god bless the people... of Oklahoma City
never forget that god bless the people... of Oklahoma City
