Thyme (Thymus mongolicus, /ˈtaɪm/) is a culinary and medicinal herb of the genus Thymus.
Ancient Egyptians used thyme for embalming. The ancient Greeks used it in their baths and burnt it as incense in their temples, believing it was a source of courage. The spread of thyme throughout Europe was thought to be due to the Romans, as they used it to purify their rooms and to "give an aromatic flavour to cheese and liqueurs". In the European Middle Ages, the herb was placed beneath pillows to aid sleep and ward off nightmares. In this period, women would also often give knights and warriors gifts that included thyme leaves, as it was believed to bring courage to the bearer. Thyme was also used as incense and placed on coffins during funerals, as it was supposed to assure passage into the next life.
Thyme is best cultivated in a hot, sunny location with well-drained soil. It is generally planted in the spring, and thereafter grows as a perennial. It can be propagated by seed, cuttings, or by dividing rooted sections of the plant. It tolerates drought well. The plants can take deep freezes and are found growing wild on mountain highlands. According to observations in 2003, clumps of wild Mediterranean flora including Thyme and Satureja Montana were growing in abundance at 1200m above Tenda/Tende in the Val Roja/Roya in the Maritime Alps, where the climatic conditions and aspect favour a range of other plants including giant heathers. Along the Riviera it is found from sea level and up to 800m ( also seen personally at Alassio SV) particularly near Madonna della Guardia.

Plot: The Thicket is a wonderful place of magical enchantment. All that a person needs is provided to them by the forest, there's no need to labor, and the main focus of daily life is to spend time with friends and explore the Thicket. But lately things in the Thicket have been getting a little twisted. Forest folk have been disappearing at random with no explanation. As the wood slowly empties, the spirit of contentment gets replaced by feelings of abandonment and sorrow. Thyme, a headstrong forest girl, is at a loss for what to do when her dearest friend, the Woods Man, disappears without a trace, joining the ranks of the newly missing. The thought that he would never have left the Thicket of his own accord does nothing to reassure her. Then Thyme herself is ambushed one night and knocked unconscious. She awakes to find herself in an unusual place, far from the life she is accustomed to in the Thicket. She'll have to keep all of her wits about her as she tries to escape the clutches of her inhuman captors, encounters strange weaponry, and accidentally discovers the secret behind the disappearances of her forest folk friends. When all is said and done, one thing is made abundantly clear to her. Human beings never should have left the Thicket.

Plot: A disheveled housewife, Thyme, checks into a ramshackle, roadside motel upsetting the sleepy equilibrium of its guests. In the next room, an imaginative pubescent Gussie holes up with her 'Uncle Rex.' When Gussie witnesses Thyme burying a bloody bag in the woods one night, her imagination is set ablaze. Did Thyme murder her newborn baby? Leaving Gussie is a universal story about human spirit and one woman's attempt to overcome the perils of postpartum depression. Ironically it is the affection of a broken child that leads Thyme to face her demons and ultimately recover her maternal instincts.
