Plot: Miles McManus is an attention deprived schizophrenic. Ted Garcia is an old rival who wakes up with a bleeding head in Miles' bathtub all tied up, only to realize the reason he is there is his alleged rape of a girl, Annabelle James, crucial to the next day that will change both their lives forever. Never sure of his actions, Miles decides to let Ted speak. Ted swears that this hideous act has never happened, and that he and Annabelle are actually seeing each other. As the grisly night continues, Miles remembers that it was Annabelle's stepfather Jonathan Rivers who had hired him, and Ted's version of the story may actually come through. Little by little both men discover the underlying motive: Money. Annabelle's mother had left a fortune to her and she is the only way that Rivers can ever get close to it. Complications further arise, and Rivers plans on getting Ted's blood along with Annabelle's on his conscience all in the name of wealth. Now Miles is forced to make a decision that could ultimately bring more harm than good to himself. The freedom of one person comes at the cost of another, and Miles is soon confronted by the kidnapping of Annabelle, which will naturally turn into murder once all the money has been transferred. Having been played for a fool, Miles vows to make things right, but soon finds that doing the right thing sometimes translates into all the right things going wrong.

Quotes:
Miles: What about the girl?::Rivers: [scoffs] What about her?::Miles: Did you... Did you...?::Rivers: Oh, Heaven's, no. We need her for a while. Money transfers can be a bitch sometimes, huh, Shane?::Shane: Yep.::Miles: What have you done with her?::Rivers: We're holding her in a safe deposit box until the money comes through. Truly an upside-down situation. She's in my warehouse with Mr. Clemens. He's taking good care of her.
Miles: I gotta return the piece you guys gave me.::Shane: Yeah. [Miles whips out gun, shoots Shane]
Rivers: My money. Mine! [shoots Ted]
Ted: You wanna hurt me, Miles?::Miles: Stop acting smart.::Ted: You wanna hurt me, right?::Miles: I wanna do the right thing.::Ted: The right thing! What's that like? Kidnapping a guy while he's at work, tying his hands and legs and placing him in a shower tray? Well, if that's the right thing, then you have fucking aced it, my friend!
Ted: I said, motherfucker if you want publicity, call the cops and have them circle the house, reporters will crawl all over the place like cockroaches. You'll be on TV. A star.::Miles: That's one choice. To be popular. But that one only lasts 24 hours.::Ted: Better plan, Einstein?::Ted: Why Miles McManus Jr, idle minds are definitely the devil's workshop. Looks like you two made a great fucking deal. I never hurt you in my life! What are you gonna do keep me here forever? Since you're not gonna shoot me, I'll scream for help.::Miles: No, you won't.::Ted: What makes you so sure?::Miles: Your blood on my gun. I'll swell your million dollar face so bad you'll have to walk around with a paper bag on your head for the rest of your life. Your image will be gone. People will stare at you like a freak. Forever.::Ted: We were jerks. We were. But never to you.::Miles: No, not in front of me.::Ted: So fuckin' what if we made fun of you behind your back, huh? What the fuck do you care? You didn't hear them or about them. We didn't spread rumors, we kept them all to ourselves, private fuckin' jokes. None of your business!::Miles: You think I'm doin' this to be popular, right, Ted?::Ted: Well, I don't think you have many reasons, no. You're a loser, and you'll die a loser. Kill me and/or fuck my face up, win the lottery, get married to Cindy fuckin' Crawford, brother, you will always be a loser. Even long after you're gone. The problem is no one will remember your name or what you looked like. I guess that pretty much makes you vapor, McManus. That's how much of a waste of fuckin' air you are.

Shane (
Alan Ladd) is offered water by Joe Starrett (
Van Heflin) as he passes by their farm.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The simple story of a
Wyoming range war is elevated to near-mythical status in producer/director
George Stevens'
Western classic Shane. Alan Ladd plays the title character, a mysterious drifter who rides into a tiny homesteading community and accepts the hospitality of a farming family. Patriarch Joe Starrett (Van Heflin) is impressed by the way Shane handles himself when facing down the hostile minions of land baron
Emile Meyer, though he has trouble placing his complete trust in the stranger, as his
Marion (
Jean Arthur) is attracted to Shane in spite of herself, and his son
Joey (
Brandon De Wilde) flat-out idolizes Shane. When
Meyer is unable to drive off the homesteaders by sheer brute strength, he engages the services of black-clad, wholly evil hired gun
Jack Wilson (
Jack Palance).
The moment that
Wilson shows he means business by shooting down hotheaded farmer
Frank Torrey (
Elisha Cook Jr.) is the film's most memorable scene: after years of becoming accustomed to carefully choreographed movie death scenes, the suddenness with which Torrey's life is snuffed out -- and the force with which he falls to the ground -- are startling. Shane knows that a showdown with Wilson is inevitable; he also knows that, unintentionally, he has become a disruptive element in the Starrett family. The manner in which he handles both these problems segues into the now-legendary "Come back, Shane" finale. Cinematographer

Patriarch Joe Starrett (
Van Heflin) is impressed by the way Shane handles himself when facing down the hostile minions of land baron
