Sir Laurence Olivier: Remember boy, when it comes to women, you're never too old for humiliation.
Colin Clark: It's agony because he's a great actor who wants to be a film star, and you're a film star who wants to be a great actress. This film won't help either of you.
Milton Greene: That's what she does, she breaks hearts. She'll break yours.
Marilyn Monroe: Little girls should be told how pretty they are. They should grow up knowing how much their mother loves them.
Marilyn Monroe: I want this to be the perfect date. I haven't had a real date since I was 13 years old.
Marilyn Monroe: Why do the people I love always leave me?

Gone with the Wind & Vivien Leigh home video footage discovered!
Katie Couric, David Janssen & Herb Bridges view/discuss the recently discovered GWTW home video footage. The footage shows Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard, Victor Fleming and various extras behind the scenes during the filming of the 1939 classic.
For more information on Vivien Leigh & Gone with the Wind, please visit VIVIEN-LEIGH.COM.
Video supplied by Mark Mayes.
From Brucemore.org: "The subject of this attention was a three-minute segment of footage taken by Howard Hall in 1939. Howard was visiting friends and checking on investments in California when he was invited to visit the Busch Garden set of Gone With the Wind. Howard had access to the set through his friend Paul Robinson, whose wife Ann was the stand-in for Olivia de Havilland. Through that connection, he had remarkable access to the otherwise closed set of the most popular American film ever made. Fortuitously, he brought his movie camera.
The quality of the images is extraordinary. Howard documents the filming of one of the opening scenes of the movie -- the barbecue at Twelve Oaks. He focuses on Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh sitting by their trailers in full costume, smoking and waiting for their scenes. He also shows stand-ins setting up a shot for Leslie Howard and Olivia de Havilland. Some scenes reveal hundreds of extras in antebellum costumes, standing in the California sun, waiting for the cameras to roll.
Howard's filming on the set of Gone with the Wind was not an isolated instance of his access to Hollywood sets. Letters written to Margaret in 1937 describe a few of his previous encounters with some of the biggest actors of the era."

After Ashley (Leslie Howard) spurns Scarlett (Vivien Leigh), she meets the notorious Rhett Butler (Clark Gable).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Gone With the Wind boils down to a story about a spoiled Southern girl's hopeless love for a married man. Producer David O. Selznick managed to expand this concept, and Margaret Mitchell's best-selling novel, into nearly four hours' worth of screen time, on a then-astronomical 3.7-million-dollar budget, creating what would become one of the most beloved movies of all time. Gone With the Wind opens in April of 1861, at the palatial Southern estate of Tara, where Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) hears that her casual beau Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard) plans to marry "mealy mouthed" Melanie Hamilton (Olivia de Havilland). Despite warnings from her father (Thomas Mitchell) and her faithful servant Mammy (Hattie McDaniel), Scarlett intends to throw herself at Ashley at an upcoming barbecue at Twelve Oaks. Alone with Ashley, she goes into a fit of histrionics, all of which is witnessed by roguish Rhett Butler (Clark Gable), the black sheep of a wealthy Charleston family, who is instantly fascinated by the feisty, thoroughly self-centered Scarlett: "We're bad lots, both of us." The movie's famous action continues from the burning of Atlanta (actually the destruction of a huge wall left over from King Kong) through the now-classic closing line, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." Holding its own against stiff competition (many consider 1939 to be the greatest year of the classical Hollywood studios), Gone With the Wind won ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress (Vivien Leigh), and Best Supporting Actress (Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win an Oscar). The film grossed nearly 192 million dollars, assuring that, just as he predicted, Selznick's epitaph would be "The Man Who Made Gone With the Wind."

Dark Journey (1937) Vivien Leigh Romantic Thriller Full Film
Madeline Goddard is a smart young woman who owns a fashionable dress shop in neutral Sweden during World War One. Though she is grateful to avoid the fighting, the courageous and stunningly pretty Madeline feels she should be doing more for her native France. She volunteers to work as an intelligence agent, smuggling maps and other documents within the fashionable garments she ships to wealthy customers in London. Madeline's activities are so successful that British intelligence soon comes to rely on her as their main pipeline for information. At about this time, a British official in Sweden asks her to cultivate the friendship of Baron Karl Von Marwitz, a tall, distinguished-looking German officer who is in charge of counter-espionage activities at the German embassy. Unknown to Madeline, the baron has been sent to Sweden for the express purpose of discovering and eliminating the top British spy who has been smuggling out German war plans. When Madeline and Karl meet, each recognizes the other as a deadly foe. But a smoldering attraction seems to grow each time they see each other. Madeline is dazed by her conflicting feelings and attempts to run away; however Von Marwitz is able to board her ship on the high seas and capture her as a spy. Soon afterwards, his own ship is torpedoed by a British destroyer sent to rescue Madeline. The mortally wounded Baron Von Marwitz dies in her arms, confessing his love. Madeline is hailed as a hero but turns to look out to sea, shedding tears over her gallant German lover.

However, Leigh was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and her unpredictable behavior eventually ruined her professional reputation and destroyed her marriage to Olivier.
5. Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher's portrayal of Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy turned her into a pop-culture icon. However, partly due to her tumultuous childhood, she struggled with drug and alcohol addictions. In her early 20s Fisher was told she was hypomanic, but she didn't believe her doctor.
4. Jean-Claude Van Damme
Belgian kickboxer Jean-Claude Van Damme has appeared in numerous action films, including Bloodsport, Sudden Death, and Universal Soldier. While his movie career took off, though, Van Damme's personal life was unraveling. He was divorced four times, charged with spousal abuse, and addicted to cocaine.
However, things started to come together after his diagnosis of rapid-cycling bipolar. He told E! Online, "You just have to take a little salt [the drug sodium valproate], and since I'm doing that it's, like, BOOM! In one week, I felt it kick in. All the commotion around me, all the water around me, moving left and right around me, became like a lake."
9. Linda Hamilton
Actress Linda Hamilton is best known for her role as Sarah Connor in Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. She also starred in the TV series Beauty and the Beast. Despite her professional success, though, she was self-medicating with drugs and alcohol and her bipolar mood swings damaged two marriages.
8. Sinéad O'Connor
Her depression steadily got worse, including suicidal thoughts, until she was finally diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 37. O'Connor talked openly about living with this condition on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2007
3. Vincent van Gogh
There is no consensus on what medical condition fueled van Gogh's behavior, though some theories include epilepsy, depression, psychotic attacks, and bipolar disorder.
10. Virginia Woolf
An article in the American Journal of Psychiatry explains her behaviors: "From the age of 13, Woolf had symptoms that today would be diagnosed as bipolar disorder; she experienced mood swings from severe depression to manic excitement and episodes of psychosis. In her own time, however, psychiatry had little to offer her."
6. Jane Pauley
At the age of 50 Pauley began experiencing episodes of depression and mania. It is thought that steroids used to treat hives kick-started her symptoms, which were diagnosed as bipolar disorder. She describes her experiences in her bestselling memoir, Skywriting: A Life Out of the Blue.
7. Mariette Hartley
Emmy-winning actress Mariette Hartley has appeared in numerous television shows and starred in a popular series of commercials in the 1970s. However, her family life was troubled — she lost both her father and an uncle to suicide, and her mother also attempted to take her own life. In 1994, Hartley started having suicidal thoughts and was misdiagnosed with depression, and later ADD. The third diagnosis — bipolar disorder — was the correct one.
2. Catherine Zeta-Jones
Academy Award-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones first enchanted audiences in the 1998 blockbuster, The Mask of Zorro. In 2000, she married actor Michael Douglas, who she helped through a battle with throat cancer in 2010. Then, a few months after Douglas declared he was cancer-free, the mother of two revealed in April 2011 she had sought treatment for bipolar II disorder, which is characterized by episodes of hypomania (less severe highs and irritability) alternating with depression.

Vivien Leigh & John Gielgud in Ivanov
This 1966 Broadway version of Chekov's play tells the story of Nikolai Ivanov (John Gielgud), a man struggling to regain his former glory. For the past five years, he has been married to Anna Petrovna (Vivien Leigh), a disinherited 'jewess', who has become very ill. Ivanov's estate is run by a distant relative, Mikhail Borkin (Ronald Radd), who is frequently advising people on how he can help them make money. The doctor, Lvov (John Merivale), an 'honest' man as he frequently reminds the rest of the cast, informs Ivanov that his wife is dying of tuberculosis, and that she needs to recover by going to the Crimea. Unfortunately, Ivanov is unable, and unwilling, to pay for the trip. He is heavily in debt and already owes Zinaida Lebdeva (Paula Laurence) 9000 roubles. Ivanov is criticised for heartlessness and for spending time with the Lebedevs instead of his seriously ill wife. At the end of Act One, Ivanov departs to visit the Lebedevs', and unbeknown to him is followed by Anna and Lvov.
Act Two shows a party at Lebedevs', and features various people discussing Ivanov. They say his only motive for marrying Anna was for the large dowry, however, when she married him, she was forced to convert from Judaism to Russian Orthodox and was disowned. Lebedev (Roland Culver) is married to Zinaida, who manages his money lending, and they have a daughter, Sasha (Jennifer Hilary), who is infatuated with Ivanov. She throws herself at Ivanov and he is unable to resist: the act concludes with the two kissing. Unfortunately, Anna arrives unexpectedly at just this moment and witnesses the betrayal.
Act Three shows a number of conversations between Ivanov and other members of the cast - Lebedev begs Ivanov to repay his debts, and Lvov confronts Ivanov once again about the heartless way he treats Anna. Sasha then appears, concerned by Ivanov's refusal to visit since the incident at the end of Act Two. The act then ends with Anna confronting Ivanov about Sasha's visit, and about how he has lied and cheated on her for the entirety of their marriage. Ivanov's anger is aroused by the false accusation and in a fit of anger he reveals to her that she is dying.
Act Four occurs around a year after the previous acts. Anna has died, and Ivanov and Sasha are preparing to marry. As the wedding is about to begin, Lvov appears, planning to unveil Ivanov's 'evil' intentions - believing Ivanov is simply marrying Sasha for the dowry. He makes the accusation publicly and even though other characters have previously expressed doubts they all leap to Ivanov's defence and challenge Lvov to duels. Ivanov finds the whole situation amusing, returning to his old self, and takes out his gun. Sasha realises what he is about to do, but is unable to stop him: Ivanov runs away from the crowd and shoots himself, abruptly ending the play
