"VILLAGE OF DAUGHTERS" - Storyline - Herbert Harris a traveling salesman who make his way into a remote italian village to sell his wares. There, he finds many attractive women who all pursue him madly. He quickly learns that the village has all but one single man left, as the majority have left to find work. The only single man left is Antonio, a wealthy foreigner who is looking for a bride. In a small Irish village, a blaspheming drunk stands on the steps of a church and dares God to strike him dead. At that very moment, a shot rings out and the blasphemer is killed. The local priest who witnessed the crime struggles to make sense of it, and leans that all is not what it seems.

Korchinsky (Horst Buchholz), a Polish sailor, visits his girlfriend Anya (Yvonne Mitchell), while on shore leave in Cardiff's dockland area of Tiger Bay. On his arrival, he is enraged to find that Anya is now living with another man and an argument develops between them resulting in the jealous seaman killing his ex-girlfriend. The murder is observed by a 12-year-old girl called Gillie (Hayley Mills); she lives in an upstairs flat with her Aunt and witnesses the quarrel while spying through a letterbox. Gillie gets hold of the abandoned gun, convinced the weapon will make her more popular when playing 'Cowboys and Indians' with the other children in town.
A 12 year old tomboy witnesses the murder of a woman by her Polish merchant marine boyfriend but bonds with him and thwarts the police in their investigation.

Yvonne Mitchell
Yvonne Mitchell (7 July 1915– 24 March 1979) was an English stage, television and film actress. After beginning her acting career in theatre, Mitchell progressed to films in the late 1940s. Her roles include Julia in the 1954 BBC adaptation of George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. She retired from acting in 1977.
Personal life
Mitchell was born Yvonne Frances Joseph, but in 1946 changed her name by deed poll to Yvonne Mitchell (without the Frances). Her parents were Madge (Mitchell) and Bertie Joseph. She was Jewish. Mitchell was married to the journalist, film and theatre critic and novelist Derek Monsey (1921–1979) and they lived in a village in the south of France. Mitchell died of cancer, aged 63, in 1979. Monsey died the same year, roughly one month earlier. Their daughter Cordelia Monsey is a theatre director and a long-term associate of both Sir Peter Hall and Sir Trevor Nunn. Yvonne Mitchell's grandson is the drummer and violinist, Mitch McGugan.
Writing
Outside acting, Mitchell was also an established author, writing several books for children and adults as well as winning awards for playwriting. Her plays include The Same Sky. She wrote an acclaimed biography of the French writer Colette, and her own autobiography was published in 1957.

In a small Irish village, a blaspheming drunk stands on the steps of a church and dares God to strike him dead. At that very moment, a shot rings out and the blasphemer is killed. The local priest who witnessed the crime struggles to make sense of it, and leans that all is not what it seems.

Korchinsky (Horst Buchholz), a Polish sailor, visits his girlfriend Anya (Yvonne Mitchell), while on shore leave in Cardiff's dockland area of Tiger Bay. On his arrival, he is enraged to find that Anya is now living with another man and an argument develops between them resulting in the jealous seaman killing his ex-girlfriend. The murder is observed by a 12-year-old girl called Gillie (Hayley Mills); she lives in an upstairs flat with her Aunt and witnesses the quarrel while spying through a letterbox. Gillie gets hold of the abandoned gun, convinced the weapon will make her more popular when playing 'Cowboys and Indians' with the other children in town.
A 12 year old tomboy witnesses the murder of a woman by her Polish merchant marine boyfriend but bonds with him and thwarts the police in their investigation.
