Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean resigns
The Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean Ahmad Masa'deh resigned today. In a press release from Tuesday, the Jordan diplomat Dr. Masa'deh justified his decision by saying that the "conditions against which he accepted to assume the job have changed". Dr. Masa'deh "wished the process [UfM] all the success". However, it is not a secret that the Union for the Mediterranean is, its early stage, far away from having reached its initial objectives. The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been putting constant obstacles on the organisation and hindering the realisation of their first projects. Examples of this are the delay approving the Secretariat's statutes and the cancellation of summits and ministerial meetings. Dr. Masa'deh states in the press release that he has "accomplished establishing the Secretariat, making it visible, and producing a high-level professional vision for its operation". Dr. Masa'deh took office a year ago.

Albania (i/ælˈbeɪniə/ al-bay-nee-ə, Albanian: Shqipëri/Shqipëria; Gheg Albanian: Shqipnia), officially known as the Republic of Albania (Albanian: Republika e Shqipërisë pronounced Albanian pronunciation: [ɾɛpuˈblika ɛ ʃcipəˈɾiːs]), is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo[a] to the northeast, the Republic of Macedonia to the east and Greece to the south and southeast. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the west, and on the Ionian Sea to the southwest. It is less than 72 km (45 mi) from Italy, across the Strait of Otranto which links the Adriatic Sea to the Ionian Sea. Albania is a member of the UN, NATO, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Council of Europe, World Trade Organisation, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and one of the founding members of the Union for the Mediterranean. Albania has been a potential candidate for accession to the European Union since January 2003, and it formally applied for EU membership on 28 April 2009.[7] The modern-day territory of Albania was at various points in history part of the Roman provinces of Dalmatia (southern Illyricum), Macedonia (particularly Epirus Nova), and Moesia Superior. The modern Republic became independent after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in Europe following the Balkan Wars.[8] Albanians had for almost five centuries been at the heart of a sprawling empire in which they enjoyed a privileged position as administrators and generals ...

Nigel Farage destroys Barroso's State of the Union
Donations: www.ukip.org | www.ukipmeps.org | http • European Parliament, Strasbourg, 12 September 2012 • Speaker: Nigel Farage MEP, Leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), Co-President of the 'Europe of Freedom and Democracy' (EFD) Group in the European Parliament - nigelfaragemep.co.uk - Blue Card question by Jörg LEICHTFRIED MEP (Austria) Socialist group (S&D) • Debate State of the Union address by the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso [2012/2586(RSP)] Transcript: Thank you, well I begin today on a happy note, to remember, that it is twenty years ago this very week that the United Kingdom, having been signed up by the Conservative government to the exchange rate mechanism, broke out of the exchange rate mechanism. It was a great liberation for us and of course once having been bitten we didn't join the euro project thank goodness. Sadly the same is not true for the rest of Europe and I thought through the last 18 months or so that the economic logic of why Britain left the ERM would apply particular to those Mediterranean countries and I foresaw that actually those countries would leave the eurozone, probably with Greece leaving this year. But I now have to accept that I've been wrong about that, because I have totally underestimated the complete fanaticism, Mr Barroso of you, your college of commissioners and the European Central Bank. You've come out fighting on all fronts, today you have announced there is going to be a banking union, yet ...
