Alkaline Trio
Regardless what you think of Matt’s tenure with blink, you cannot deny he handled it with grace, beauty, and respect.
Alkaline Trio’s new album is out today and well, it’s fantastic.
Let’s show our support by all giving it a listen; I’m sure there’s something everyone can enjoy.
Just curious. Bloodied Up here...edit to add, y'all this has been fun to read :)
I found them when I was around 24, I was pretty sheltered musicwise living in BFE Michigan (42 now). I had a boyfriend at the time that was juggling 3 or possibly more women that I didn't know about. He had a baby momma that I knew about, didn't know she was one of the three.. (had health tests done after the fact, I was cleared) One day I found the Good Mourning CD in his collection and once I heard it I played it constantly.. Some time later I asked him about Alkaline Trio and why he liked them because I loved them, he said it wasn't his it was another girl's CD. I was crushed but I stuck around because I had zero confidence and even less self-esteem, but I got Alkaline Trio out of the deal so it's a win for me.
Do you still cringingly remember "Fuck drugs and government", the hardcore hit of your 15 year self? Have you just found your old myspace picture, xXxLadyDarkness85xXx? Come and share your dusty treasure for the world - and you - to laugh and regret - *Together.* So come and tell us what the old you was up to!
I first bought Goddamnit on vinyl in ‘98 because Mike Park was constantly plugging them & it has been one of my all time favorite albums ever since. I’ve never found anything that matched the raw energy and emotion of songs like Cringe. I just love the way Matt and Dan’s vocals & song writing complimented each other so well, especially in Message from Kathleen. That album and the first eps got me through a really painful breakup. Their self titled collection was amazing (My Friend Peter was an awesome break up song too) and Maybe I’ll Catch Fire lived up to expectations for the most part, especially Dan’s songs - She Took Him to the Lake & You’ve Got So Far to Go 😘👌.
I was super psyched when Here to Infirmery came out my senior year in college. It was a solid album and I was kind over the break up. AK had matured and so had their song writing. I was in a different place in my life when Good Mourning came out - I had a job and was living on my own. They still spoke to me though they had gotten gothier. I know some people hate this song but I obsessively listened to Every Thug Needs a Lady. I formed my first band with a guy I met at a bar after we bonded over Alkaline Trio and screamed out their songs drunkenly on a beach all night.
Then Crimson came out & they totally lost me. I have nothing against the band or the album, I just didn’t really connect with it and haven’t really liked any of their albums since. I’ve haven’t seen them live since college and don’t talk to many other fans, but I’ve noticed that the vast majority of fans I encounter online absolutely love Crimson and their later albums. I guess we just grew apart, but they’re definitely a different band.
I was also into punk and maybe I liked their older stuff because it was punkier and more hard hitting. Is there a AT fan club for old fucks like me who think old Alkaline Trio is some of the finest music ever made but can’t stand they’re newer stuff?
Hi, I write for a music paper, and I'm reviewing the new album. I'm running into the problem of having difficulty labeling ak3's genre. I normally write about metal, so I'm struggling like crazy out of my comfort zone. I've seen some people call them punk but I don't personally fully agree, but let me know if I'm wrong :)
Been on a huge Alkaline Trio bender as of late and looking for more bands that you think sound alike. I'm pretty familiar with all their side projects aswell. Ideally something a little more on the punk side of pop-punk with similar lyrical topics. Thank you!
i can’t figure it out but my understanding is that 2000s emo isn’t true emo its just darker pop punk not that 2000s emo doesn’t have some of the same elements as actual emo but that’s besides the point i am very new to the band matt era blink got me into alkaline trio and now im asking if there emo beacuse im confused it sounds emo but not like a mcr or fob emo i cant put my finger on it please send help
Any other owners of the Damnesia guitar!? Just remembered I still have mine. 😌
I have the leak and it shits on the new blink album which I also love. This is just truly the best record Skiba has come up with in his entire career!
Hey fellow pop punkers I’m fairly new to here but just wanted to know what’s your thoughts on Alkaline Trio. I consider them fairly underrated but I could be wrong (they ain’t huge here in Ireland). Really love the darker side to their lyrics say in comparison to your Blink 182s Green Days etc of that era
Anyhow any Alkline Trio fans on here and if so what is your favourite song of theirs?
I love Jaked on Green Beers, Goodbye Forever, and Blue in the Face.
