Celtics beating allegations that IST is rigged for a Celtics-Lakers Finals.

[–]Celticsinstantur 245 points246 points  (20 children)

It will get double proven tomorrow

[–][LAL] Alex CarusoVermillion_Crab 146 points147 points  (19 children)

No don't jinx us! Shoo!

[–]1OO1OO1S0S 67 points68 points  (4 children)

That's not jinxing it. Jinxing it is saying y'all are gonna win it.

Which you are...

[–][LAL] Alex CarusoVermillion_Crab 31 points32 points  (2 children)

Suns are the better team. They're going to play well tomorrow.

[–]76ersRelevant_Increase394 514 points515 points  (6 children)

Haliburton had 0 turnovers again too

[–]crunkadocious 237 points238 points  (4 children)

Triple double with zero turnovers and an upper respiratory infection.

[–]Pacerstiger32kw 164 points165 points  (3 children)

Jordan has the “flu game”

Haliburton has the “upper respiratory infection game”

Rolls off the tongue

[–]CelticsLordHussyPants 49 points50 points  (0 children)

U RIG

i see what you're doing adam silver

[–]KnicksHokageEzio 2698 points2699 points  (83 children)

Adam Silver is definitely talking crazy on a burner account right now to you IST doubters. If nobody got me I know the bald lizard alien got me.

[–]Bucksmindfreakz 299 points300 points  (0 children)

he really was in his bag dropping IGT this season. now everyone jumps on board on how hype the games are

[–]Lakerscs_grad_2023 820 points821 points  (63 children)

reddit was the biggest hater on the tourney acting like these dudes aren’t pure competitors. you put any money and people watching they want to win

[–]Just-Hunter1679 368 points369 points  (15 children)

I think such a huge part is that some of these guys know they ain't winning four rounds of playoffs to get a ring, but this, this is something anyone, any team can win. If Indiana goes on and wins this, it'll be huge and the big teams, like the Celtics, getting bounced is a hit to their ego. Love it.

You're absolutely right about the competitiveness of these guys. To get to this level, you have to be such a high level competitor and you can't switch that off.

In English football, so many teams know they're not going to win the league, but they can make a run at the FA Cup or the League Cup, and for lots of fans, it's a big deal.

[–]parkson89 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Agree, this tournament has been a brilliant idea. Should have done it way earlier!

[–]NBAthatdani 54 points55 points  (4 children)

In English football, so many teams know they're not going to win the league, but they can make a run at the FA Cup or the League Cup, and for lots of fans, it's a big deal.

Exactly what I've been referencing this whole time (kept some receipts along the way). It is insane to me that the NBA hadn't thought of something like the FA Cup beforehand, only 1/30 teams gets something each season? No shit viewership is down, a lot of teams are in cruise control early on, a lot of tanking, a lot of "well it's not the playoffs yet, doesn't matter".

[–]PacersJohnDavidsBooty 12 points13 points  (3 children)

I mean, part of the appeal of the FA Cup or Champions League is that matchups like, just pulling names out of my ass, say, Man U vs Galatasaray or Liverpool vs. Padstow Ass End aren't matchups you would normally get to see

[–]Just-Hunter1679 8 points9 points  (1 child)

It would be great if there were other basketball leagues that could put teams in so you could have the Lakers on the road, playing a local team in Tacoma, or the Knicks playing in Louisville.

I love that even though the lower league teams know they're probably going to get smashed, getting Tottenham to come to your little stadium in Preston is such a big deal for revenue and the TV money.

[–]NBAthatdani 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but (with no intention of shade here) in the NBA Cup we get to see the Pacers in contention for a trophy, which is just as rare haha

[–]CavaliersS13pointFIVE 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the 2024 NBA In-Season Tournament, presented by SKIMS

[–]RaptorsMajor9000 2772 points2773 points  (47 children)

In Season Tournament is a success...Exciting games in December...Players actually playing hard...Refs swallowing their whistles.

[–]pedja13 1227 points1228 points  (17 children)

The crowd cheering on Hield to take the 3 at the end sums up the atmosphere

[–][LAL] LeBron JamesKarrotMovies 582 points583 points  (14 children)

That for sure fucked up someone's parlay lmao

[–]PacersApolloSimba 414 points415 points  (0 children)

The over under on draftkings was 3.5 threes...that was his fourth

[–]NetsPremaximum 130 points131 points  (1 child)

Fuck them parlays.

[–][IND] Paul Georgemani9612 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Legacy points added

[–]Pacerswasechillis 177 points178 points  (0 children)

[–]HeatZootedBeaver 48 points49 points  (0 children)

We can only hope

[–]HolyGhostSpirit33 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Even better

[–]CelticsBostonClippers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

hope it made someone homeless

BO1 is a winning recipe

march madness has known this for ages

[–]SunsPisto1Peet 81 points82 points  (1 child)

Black Ops 1 really was a banger

[–]Spursl3orecl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

SR-71, chopper gunner, attack dogs all day

[–]Legitimate_Moose_864 10 points11 points  (0 children)

BO1 was peak

[–]WarriorsMC-Jdf 50 points51 points  (1 child)

Pitch perfect for young teams too.

[–]Celticsjacksonelhage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fucking great game and the pacers were loving it. nesmith going crazy!

[–]Knicksveksone 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I had my doubts but this turning out to be the best thing the league has done in a while!

[–]Australiaresplendentcentcent 59 points60 points  (9 children)

why do you use ellipses in between sentences like how my parents text

[–]RaptorsMajor9000 30 points31 points  (1 child)

... because I am your father!

[–]Yung_Jose_Space 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The crowd getting behind it is a factor. Hard to play like bums if the fans are invested and the atmosphere is good.

Natural competitors in those situations are gonna want the dub.

[–][PHI] JaKarr SampsonChickenLiverNuts[🍰] 921 points922 points  (17 children)

Horford only exists to shoot 6/8 from 3 every game vs the sixers

32 minutes and 2 points

why he say fuck me for

[–]B1ueEyesWh1teDragon 331 points332 points  (5 children)

He does that shit to the Bucks too, don’t feel too bad.

[–]crunkadocious 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Horford was relevant on defense. A big part of why the pacers were kept under 50 in the first half.

[–]Celticsjacksonelhage 22 points23 points  (0 children)

hes great at defense and he gets boards. and he passes the ball good. but you're right. and i love that he does that to u

[–]PacersAverage_Coffee_ 719 points720 points  (8 children)

The Pacers are built for this kind of tournament. Hali took that Celtics loss personally.

[–]BeNiceBeChill 218 points219 points  (3 children)

“… and I took that personally.”—- Tyrese Haliburton—- MJ

[–]PacersWerealldeadsoon 74 points75 points  (1 child)

I think of this quote often in relation to him. For as nice as he seems off the court he’s a straight up killer on the court.

[–]76ersSpirited-Arugula-672 41 points42 points  (1 child)

I still can't accept this dude can shoot with that form of his, let alone that he's easily a top 5 shooter. Just a scary player all around.

[–]CelticsGhostoftheWolfswood 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As an opposing fan last night it was so frustrating. Looks like he should be getting easily blocked on every shot with that weird release of his, but Haliburton had Jrue looking like Trae Young on defense in the second half last night

[–]thriftydude 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thats cuz they got 2/3 the roster makes less than $3M. Imagine getting a 15% bump in pay if you win lol

[–]Celticsfueelin 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Dude is nuts. Wow. GGs, win this thing!

[–]Mavericksjackaholicus 185 points186 points  (4 children)

Hali for MVP.

[–]PacersARealSlimBrady 14 points15 points  (0 children)

[–]Pacersohverychill 9 points10 points  (1 child)

[–]PacersVeryStandardOutlier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]LakersRabbitWolfie 1483 points1484 points  (60 children)

[–][BOS] Pete MaravichCannabaholic 54 points55 points  (3 children)

The players and crowd were clearly in game 7 playoff mode, love to see it

[–]DrewinNaptown 31 points32 points  (2 children)

Fun as hell to be in the house. Sounded like a playoff game, which you know we haven't experienced in Indy in a while.

[–]Savagevandal85 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Please give me 70 dollar bucks friend and I’ll sign you up to finish the story

[–][HOU] Luis Scolawillymoose8 124 points125 points  (9 children)

single elimination basketball is awesome

[–]SydneyCarton89 28 points29 points  (3 children)

The play-in is great. Miami went all the way from losing their first play-in game to the NBA Finals did they not?

I'd love to see the NHL adopt it.

[–]Thundertopofthecc 83 points84 points  (0 children)

What a fun game. It's like a game 7 but both teams have (mostly) fresh legs.

[–]KnicksWorldWideWes2 217 points218 points  (11 children)

They told us the players wouldn’t care lol

[–]HawksHandyman2116 251 points252 points  (2 children)

r/nba nerds think that NBA players are lazy ass bums like them.

[–]CelticsInternational-Chef33 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Well the Cs players complained about the rules and have put it below them. Not surprised this was the outcome.

Kobe complaining about needing to run up the score on an inferior opponent for some random dumb tourney win? JT did not text him

[–]PacersMySabonerRunsOladipo 95 points96 points  (2 children)

As it turns out, hyper-competitive athletes want to beat each other when there's something on the line.

[–]KnicksWorldWideWes2 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Who woulda thought

[–]Raptorsenantiornithe 32 points33 points  (3 children)

but the NBA cup has no traDISHUN

[–]Bucksgooberstwo 4 points5 points  (2 children)

It’s coming.

[–]CelticsLordHussyPants 11 points12 points  (1 child)

fuck that, it's here

[–]RaptorsCheechers23 128 points129 points  (12 children)

I never understood why everyone hated it lol. For me it was always a "let's see how it goes", but there was never really any problem with it, especially since the games just replace what were regular season games anyways

[–][MIL] Jrue Holidayjimdotcom413 97 points98 points  (10 children)

Worst part has been the courts and that’s an easy fix for next year.

Ninja edit: I actually like differentiating them but not to the extent my eyes wither inside my skull.

[–]SnooChipmunks4208 62 points63 points  (7 children)

I've come around on the courts. The worst offenders (Bulls) should be toned down, but keep the over-the-top style.

[–][MIL] Jrue Holidayjimdotcom413 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If they had the dark red strip down the middle and something less midsommar on the other 4/5ths of the court I’d be down with it.

[–]CelticsLordHussyPants 13 points14 points  (1 child)

i reckon they should keep the usual timber floors, but the paint, the centre logo, and the borders of the court should all be really over the top, and the arenas should have different lighting to usual to emphasise the colour

[–]GrizzliesEatDeeply 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Clean and refined

[–][LAL] Alex CarusoVermillion_Crab 82 points83 points  (7 children)

If you watched that crowd and still think that the IST doesn't matter, you're an idiot.

[–]Pacersmediocre-referee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's good for us Pacer fans to actually believe we could win a trophy. That crowd was every bit as electric after the Haliburton three and Nesmith dunk as some of our best playoff moments, including Miller time

[–]sauzbozz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Once we saw how serious the players were taking these games any haters should have realized they were wrong

[–]RaptorsGreatestJabaitest 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THESE

[–]dameplsrunfromgrind 978 points979 points  (48 children)

Bill Simmons is gonna be in shambles while in Vegas

[–]MavericksStefonDiggsHS 563 points564 points  (24 children)

Bill Simmons isn’t gonna say a word about the IST now lmfao more NFL pods coming up

[–]NBAEarthWarping 195 points196 points  (2 children)

Sal, you know that Drake Maye guy isn't too bad

[–]76ersNetwealth5 67 points68 points  (1 child)

We’ve got Steven Ruiz to talk about how good Justin Herbert would be on the Patriots

[–]Sweatytubesock 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Probably an emergency pod on crypto or some shit.

[–]WizardsA2daRon 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Aaron Nesmith sends his regards.

[–]BoJackPoliceman 120 points121 points  (15 children)

Not sure what yall are talking about. He’s been hyping Indy to win it this entire time.

[–]Wizardsyoungsaiyan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He admitted he was wrong about it

[–]NetsOdd_Total_5549 77 points78 points  (11 children)

Yeah the Simmons haste in this sub is just weird sometimes, he wasn’t really any more skeptical of the IST than the majority of NBA podcasters that I heard, and he isn’t such a homer that he doesn’t acknowledge another team playing well against the Celtics

[–]Lakerscaptain_ahabb 50 points51 points  (3 children)

People here don't actually listen to the pod (not that I blame people for not listening) and just assume what his takes are, he's been on the IST train for weeks.

[–]CelticsHorsNoises 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fr he's gonna be creaming about this game even though the C's lost. I'm not even mad myself, what a show from Hali.

[–]Raptorsthebestoflimes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An early morning Bloody Mary cures the shambles in Vegas.

[–]Pacerssgeswein 243 points244 points  (6 children)

Some teams are just tournament-built, and there's nothing you can do

[–]CelticsLordHussyPants 88 points89 points  (1 child)

talk your shit indy

[–][IND] Paul Georgemani9612 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah brotha man, GG

[–]Celticsfull-auto-rpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything can happen in one game and you guys played your ass’s off. Hope to see you guys in the playoffs to return the favor, but in the mean time go on and win this thing.

[–]Bullssylviaplath6667 419 points420 points  (7 children)

A young, exciting, hungry Pacers team getting national game is exactly who this tournament should be for. Hats off to Silver for this. The NBA is fun in early December!

[–][SEA] Kevin DurantWestleyThe 68 points69 points  (2 children)

Hali even said it before the game on tnt. He’s never played for anything besides regular season in the nba so it feels good to compete for it

[–][IND] Paul Georgemani9612 32 points33 points  (0 children)

And the first thing he said in the post game interview is that they’re trying to change how this team is viewed. Love it.

[–]PacersHeyItsChase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nor in college.

[–]RaptorsElectronic-Elk8917 152 points153 points  (4 children)

They also have never lost an NBA championship

[–]RaptorsSpicyP43905 52 points53 points  (2 children)

[–]RaptorsHingl_McCringleberry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

[–]Celticscarlos_rodz_ 78 points79 points  (1 child)

Great game. Indy has something special. Hali did wonders for my fantasy team lol

[–]CelticsDJRyGuy20 77 points78 points  (2 children)

I knew we were cooked when that midget TJ McConnell cooked Kornet with a post up move in the paint. 🤦🏻‍♂️

[–]AnyJamesBookerFans 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Put him in the spin cycle!

[–]Pacersohverychill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

perhaps Kornet should purify himself in the clean, crisp waters of Kinetico

[–]Celticspopop143 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Luke Kornet in shambles, won't be able to pay his mortgage.

[–]76ersrexfloyd94 959 points960 points  (25 children)

american hero tyrese haliburton keeping the vile boston celtics from being the inaugural nba cup champions, legend shit

[–]WarriorsAmusingAnecdote 229 points230 points  (17 children)

Halliburton was absolutely insane tonight. I said earlier in the year I thought he'd get to be all-NBA in the next two or three years and I might've been too low on him. Dude might be an all-NBA guard this year.

[–]PelicansSpheromancer 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Hes been absolutely insane for months

[–]76ersrexfloyd94 82 points83 points  (1 child)

he absolutely torched the sixers in their tourney game, i could see him in mvp contention down the line at this point honestly

[–]crunkadocious 38 points39 points  (0 children)

He was top 5 in mvp voting earlier. And top 1 in in season tourny mvp

[–]MaybeSea9158 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He definitely is an all nba player rn

[–]PacersFilet_o_math 26 points27 points  (2 children)

He's been doing this all year, but the Pacers haven't had a nationally broadcast game until now.

[–]WarriorsAmusingAnecdote 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Oh he's been doing it more or less since he showed up in Indiana, dude is absolutely wild. I just thought that the leap he took from last year to this year would take another year or so. I thought he'd go just a little below all-star level (last year) to all-star this year, to all NBA next year and he might have to wait an extra year to get the awards he deserves because the Pacers wouldn't be very good or prominent. But he's been a way better scorer this year than I expected. That weird, catapult shot keeps looking awkward and it keeps going in at 40+%.

[–]foxilus 11 points12 points  (1 child)

As an Indy transplant learning the local teams, the Pacers feel like a bright spot. The Colts are doing way more than they were expected to, which is all right? But really the NBA is what’s up, and I’m loving the energy these guys are making.

[–]Trail Blazersgreatporksword 6 points7 points  (2 children)

The challenge is the guard spot is so crowded.

[–]WarriorsAmusingAnecdote 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All-NBA is position-less now. Probably helps some guards because I agree that the weakest forwards were usually worse than some of the guards who get left out. He still would probably only make it on the 3rd team because of all the talent in front of him but he's probably been a top 10 offensive player in the league more or less since he got to Indiana.

[–]RaptorsGreatestJabaitest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Already a Leafs legend. Retire his jersey out here.

[–]PacersCoachTTP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would like to subscribe to hyper-nationalist Hali-hype, please.

[–]NAACP_YoungBoy 69 points70 points  (2 children)

[–]TimberwolvesShingorillaz 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Pacers feel destined to win it after Halliburton mentioned wanting to finally win something, def gonna root for them

[–]Celticsfull-auto-rpg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m very happy to root for the Pacers, Hali is awesome, still love Nesmith, and they play with so much energy. At least until the playoffs, then they will have to stink again :(

[–]NuggetsSodaDustt 10 points11 points  (3 children)

The IST is actually amazing, I just hope they can come up with a better name before the finals happen

[–]NBAimaginaryResources 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not good for Boston. No team in the history of the NBA has ever made the finals after losing the mid-season tournament.

[–]NBAArmanhammer2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Damn I was a huge IST doubter but it looks like its a big success

[–]CelticsSmelldicks 48 points49 points  (3 children)

Gg pacers. We dominate on boards but there’s just not shit to do when your opponent shoots 46%+ from 3. Haliburton is a god and Buddy is our father.

[–]Celticsjuicejug 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Wasn’t just the insane shooting from the Pacers, everyone not named Hauser was dogshit from 3 for Boston. The whole team shot less than 30% from 3.

[–]SunsShaqovitch 83 points84 points  (8 children)

Incoming Bill Simmons doesn't like the IST and believes the NBA needs to stick to tradition

[–]CanadaMAX--35 100 points101 points  (6 children)

Credit to Adam Silver, this felt like a real playoff elimination game:

  • Jayson Tatum outplayed by the other team’s best player

  • Celtics choked

[–]saalamander 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Didn’t tatum put 50 on embiid in game 7 last year and win? Lol

[–]CelticsThinkingMSF 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[–]Lakershansislegend 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We’re all Pacers fans tonight.

[–]Minneapolis Lakersrawchess 44 points45 points  (5 children)

[–]Heatkhandiments 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let’s goooooo Tyrese !!!!!

[–]CelticsLurkyOtoul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is that Halliburton’s first career triple double? Radio guys mentioned someone was a few assists off their first

[–]Pelicanslegend023 158 points159 points  (11 children)

This is the closest thing to a playoff environment those poor pacers fans have had since LeBron was a Cav. LeBron has been on the Lakers for 6 seasons.

They deserve this one. If the pelicans don’t win this tourney, the pacers should.

[–]AcrobaticFeedback 55 points56 points  (7 children)

Pacers got swept by the Celtics in 2019 when Lebron was a Laker. They also got swept by the Heat in the bubble - though there was no playoff atmosphere for Pacer fans.

I don’t think any pacers fan will validate that reality. Last playoff game we played was against Bron

Shhh we don't like to remember that series. That was the season Oladipo's knee exploded and he started to get Miami fever.

Sabonis couldn't play in the bubble either...both series sucked ass.

Well played, Silver.
