I think such a huge part is that some of these guys know they ain't winning four rounds of playoffs to get a ring, but this, this is something anyone, any team can win. If Indiana goes on and wins this, it'll be huge and the big teams, like the Celtics, getting bounced is a hit to their ego. Love it.

You're absolutely right about the competitiveness of these guys. To get to this level, you have to be such a high level competitor and you can't switch that off.

In English football, so many teams know they're not going to win the league, but they can make a run at the FA Cup or the League Cup, and for lots of fans, it's a big deal.
